Answer:
Yes. You may see a ridge along the edge if the blade isn't perfectly level, but you can do it. Personally, I don't consider this to be a precision tool. I do large pieces in multiple passes expecting that I will be taking a belt sander to it when I'm done, using a fine finish belt. That should address those lines unless the blade was way off.

How to change blade?

This question is from 6 Amp 3-1/4 in. Corded Hand Planer

I used the little "wrench" that it comes with and it stripped EVERY SINGLE nut to loosen the clamp for the blade and now I can no longer open the clamp to change the blade. I bought this 2 days ago and used it for about an hour on some maple. Any tips or should I just return it? I want to upgrade to some more durable blades. The stock ones chipped pretty fast.

I ended up exchanging it at the store and the new one seems to be ok. The bolts unscrewed and I got the new blades in just fine.

Answer:
Neither. I believe they just changed the color of their tool from blue to green at some point. The color doesn't indicate a basic model versus a premium/professional model or anything like that. If you see a blue Ryobi in a store, it's probably just been on the shelf a while.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by very handy This portable planer is easy to use and made quick work to plane down a door. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Works great for the price. Is a good value tool. Not a industrial unit but nice to have. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent DIY Planer for the money Not sure how well this planer will work in the long run... but for my light-duty use, it has been both cost and performance effective September 27, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't last a day Got this to plane some 2x3's for a kitchen project. I guess you can't ask for much for this price, but the first problem was that it didn't plane straight. The cut was not parallel to the guide surface, so as you took cuts it would get progressively more and more off. This might have been fixable by adjusting the blade, but before we got around to it, it basically stopped cutting. The blade was completely dull, as in you could look at it and see how round the edge was. This was after a few hours of planing. Wood, without a single nail. Ended up returning it. Maybe it would be a useful tool if all you needed to do was a few cuts per year, but I'd save my money for something better quality. July 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great Doesthejob. Made a table used it on some doors . IS fast is great handy tool September 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap but I wouldn't rely on it This was a great little planer until the set screw that's part of the blade assembly backed out while in use. Now the 90 year old solid wood door I was planing paint off of has a 1/4" deep, 12" long gouge down the front of it. I had only used the planer a time or two before that. Until the tool failed, my only complaint was dust collection. It doesn't capture as much of the dust as I would like. And having the bag on the side means that if you start it with that side up, it throws a lot of dust out the bottom. January 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Buy Worked real well nice smooth cut and was easy to use August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's a trooper Bought this because I'm building a deck. Needed it first to level out some joists that were standing taller than others. Worked great for that, even when I ran it over some small finish nails I'd been using to hold string. It continued to work great for evening out ends of joists, bevelling corners, easing edges. I'm surprised how much I've used it so far, and it hasn't complained. Chewed through 3 inch wide sections of composite deck board at the full 1/8" depth of cut with little complaint. Only issue is the chip ejection port can clog up if you are taking off too much material and/or feeding too fast. Pulling the planer off the work piece and flipping the little ejection gate back and forth a couple times fixes that easily. It's really nice to be able to divert chips to either side of the tool too. Overall, this thing has handled a lot already, including being thrown all over the place during the construction project, and has done everything without issue. Solid purchase. June 7, 2016
