Answer:
Yes, to a degree. The discs generally grind on their surface, not their edge, so you need to make sure you have the right disc. Also, although I like this 18v tool, it spins at a slower speed than air or plug-in grinders so it takes a bit more time to accomplish the same task. Using one of the larger batteries is also recommended since it draws quite a bit of power.

The wheel included with the 18 volt grinder is best used for surface and edge grinding, due to the thickness of the wheel. A cut-off type wheel designated for metal cutting will do a cleaner, faster job with less stress on the tool.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 160 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Getting a bad rap by some I didn't read through the reviews when I purchased this, it was more of an impulse buy when at the store. When I gave it a try cutting through pavers I thought it was defective, as the new 2.0 amp batteries I had were both dead after very very limited use. I picked up a 4.0 amp P108 battery and this grinder is AWESOME. I've made plenty of cuts without issue. As with any grinder don't try and force it to work faster than it should by applying excess pressure as that will shorten battery use time and cause it to get hot. On a side note: Wear Goggles when using, don't be a Cowboy. At first I wore safety glasses and still managed to get a small but quite painful piece of stone in my eye. Goggles are a must. July 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great tool Love this grinder got it to cut fencing diy project. Saved me to much time! Cuts everything I've thrown at it! Also sharpen lawn mower blades. i didn't have problems with going through battery's to fast. Love ryobi tools! June 27, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. The Ryobi cordless angle grinder works like $41 angle grinder. It is limited in power and worst of all the tool cannot be used flat on a surface because the battery sticks out too much and gets in the way for a sanding disc to stay parallel on a surface, hence, it is always on an angle. It can do small jobs and minor cuttings. It will not perform like a cordless $169 Milwaukee or $99 Makita. You pretty get what you pay for. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy, Good price. Arrived two days early, along with my other stuff. I've used it a few times and it is well worth the price. It doesn't spin as fast as a corded but it'll get the job done when you don't have power around. And if you bind it up enough it'll kill the power so you don't mess anything up. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good tool I needed to cut some steel signposts but didn't need a heavy-duty grinder and rarely have a need for the tool. This cordless grinder worked out well and let me go into the field for my work. For everyday homeowner work this is a good product -- I'm not slamming its durability or strength, it's just that I've only used it a few times for jobs that require medium strength capabilities. The tool handle holds the wrench used to change blades, which is very convenient. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Deal, $40 as good as the more expensive brands Works very well for a cordless, just remember IT IS CORDLESS, do not compare it to a corded one. I have both and they each work for what they are designed for. Let the tool do the work do not apply lots of pressure on the cut. If you have many cuts to make then get a corded one much faster and more powerful. But if you do not want to drag out the extension cord for a few cuts this is the baby to use. How can you go wrong for $40 bucks, give it a try just as good as those YELLOW ones that cost over $100. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice grinder Great product value! Just wish I could get a 7" shroud to make some deeper masonry cuts. But satisfied for the out of box value! July 12, 2016
