No speed control. Simply adjust the grit sandpaper you are using and the amount of pressure you are putting on the sander

No. You're straight from 0 orbits per minute to top speed once the sander is turned on without the ability to set the sander to an intermediate speed.

The sander is one speed only. You can adjust the sanding action by changing the paper to a different grit, and also by varying your pressure on the workpiece.

It doesn't come with one but you can simply buy a lambs wool buffing pad and secure it to the sander. Most buffing pads attach with a drawstring

Is this supposed to spin

This question is from ONE+ 18-Volt 5 in. Cordless Random Orbit Sander (Tool-Only)
March 8, 2016
much like some of the negative comments, mine does not spin. it takes about 10 sends to make 1 full resolution. definitely no 10,000 per second or even 10 per second. Mine merely vibrates and very slowly rotates. is this a defect or is that how they are supposed to operate?

Orbital is like moving your hand in a circular motion ... think like polishing or sanding not in a straight line
Spinning is an entirely different type of sander normally called a disk sander .. big difference is it will leave circular marks on your surface

Spinning would be an entirely different operation, and that is not the principle behind random orbit sanders. It is this confusion that has led to some of the negative reviews of this sander, and random orbit sanders in general. Read Less

Answer:
Orbital sanders are supposed to spin rapidly. That's why they are called orbital. Ryobi boasts a 10,000 per minute spin rate. I tried two of these and returned both. No discernible spinning at all.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 66 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by wanted a cordless Bought this because I have several Ryobi 18v tools so I have 4 batteries. AND YOU need batteries to keep working . It is quiet comfortable easy to handle and sands great. It runs the battery down pretty quick. I do have a great dewalt orbital cord model but it is at my other house in Albuquerque. I would recommend any of the ROYOI 18 volt tools. I started with a bag full because my Dewalts were stolen. Not saying these are same quality but at 68 years old I don't have as many projects left to do. The Price is right. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Plenty of power Great sander. Cannot understand the negative reviews. This things has plenty of power. The wood I'm sanding starts moving around if I don't secure it. So clearly it's not underpowered. It does go through batteries quickly. But the box states the big battery will last about 40 minutes. Thus, the small batteries last up to 20 min. You can't count that against the product if they tell you up front what to expect from the battery. But on the up side, it's cordless. I love that. The money you save over the more expensive sanders can be used to buy an extra battery if you are so inclined. God bless. August 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Brainer If there's one tool where a cord gets in the way at the worst time, for me that's an orbital sander. Picked this up as I had a few finishing projects around the house, and it made sanding so much more enjoyable. I figured no cord would be awesome (it is), but I was especially impressed with the dust system RYOBI built into this. With the holes built into the sandpaper, it actually vacuums the dust right into the bag. Didn't realize how well it was working until the bag was completely full and there was no more room to collect the dust! Made for a much cleaner and enjoyable sanding experience for sure. Very happy with this purchase. August 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Powerful cordless sander. I was looking to dump the cord for a sander that I would use here and there. This sander works great and eats through batteries quickly but I bought it for the cord free convenience. If you already have the 18 volt batteries, it is a great bargain. October 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Low charge Very easy to use good buy for the money. But the charge only last for about 30 minutes before it needs to be recharged. It would have gotten a better rating if the charge was longer. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Cordless Sander I like this cordless sander. I don't have to worry about a plug/extension cords to reach a job any where in the house. It is powerful for a battery powered sander. I would have given 5 stars but it does run through a battery pretty quickly. Luckily I own other Ryobi products and have multiple batteries and atleast one on the charger. Definitely worth the price for a cordless sander. September 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great Bought as a replacement when my old (blue & yellow one) died. Used it for several projects, sanded very quickly and easily. Not too hard on the hands. Only con is that it still blows a lot of sawdust even with the bag attached. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product Lots of power for sanding anything. Easy to use and complete with dust bag. September 20, 2016
