Can this be hooked up to a shop vac?

Someone else asked the diameter of the outlet and it was answered to be 1 1/2", but does that mean i can be hooked up to a shop vac with a power tool adapter like: http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-2-1-2-in-Power-Tool-Adaptor-Accessory-for-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Vacs-VT1407/100206293 ??
Asked by: Matt
Yes, it will connect to a std 1-1/2" shop vac hose (or adapter), although the fit is a little loose. I solved this by putting a layer of duct tape inside the orifice that the hose plugs into to make for a snugger fit. This enables the sander to be used with a vacuum or the built in dust collector bag.

Customer Reviews

ONE+ 18-Volt 5 in. Cordless Random Orbit Sander (Tool-Only) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Sander for jobsite/convenience. after reading the few negative reviews of this product (and realizing the ridiculous premise for their conclusions) I am compelled to write my own. there are 3 choices and price points for random orbit cordless Sanders - Ryobi (40 buck) - Rigid (80 buck) - Makita (lots a buck) after forgetting the extension cord a few too many times while building fences I decided to stray from my Milwaukee and dewalt filled garage and grab this sander and two 4.0ah batteries. heres what you need to know If you have experience doing finish work with a random orbit this has plenty of power for you. let it do the work, change your grits when it's time and be patient. if youre expecting a workhorse of a sander to demolish layers of caked on paint that you can mash your bodyweight into... skip it. not only is this is the low end of the Ryobi, rigid, Milwaukee family, it's not a belt sander. that being said here's a bit more info on how Ryobi came to their 10000 opm statistic: a random-orbit sander moves in "random orbits," meaning it vibrates in tiny circles, like an orbital finishing sander, but it also spins in circles. As a result, this single compact tool can be used for both stock removal and ultra-smooth sanding. And because the pad vibrates and spins simultaneously, it all but eliminates swirl that ordinary orbital sanders sometimes leave behind. heres some info on why it only goes for a certain amount of time: the runtime for your battery will be as follows whether you have a Ryobi, dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita... whatever. 1.0 ah = 10 minutes continuous 2.0 ah = 20 3.0 ah = 30 etc... in conclusion, this little sander does the trick. buy the higher amp hour batteries and stay on charging them.

I’m real happy with this cordless sander despite the fact that I had to return the first one that failed after couple of days. But it’s real easy to return things at Home Depot and the replacement that I ordered online was already there when I returned the first. Then did about 4 hours of fairly heavy sanding with coarse sandpaper but had to change battery often. I was able keep going for hours because I have three batteries (for 5 different Ryobi tools) and two chargers which were charging most of the time while I was sanding. The cordless sander is convenient because there’s no cord that gets in the way and it does a great sanding job with no swirl marks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to do, if you understand what it's supposed to do I've used the sander on several projects, and the results have been fast and scratch-free. Reviewers should remember that random orbit sanders have heads that move in tiny ovals. This principle differs from grinders - where the heads spin at high revolutions per minute. OPM is not the same as RPM, so don't expect to see the head spinning at a high rpm.

Even with a very coarse grit paper, it doesn't have the ability to sand even the most basic of items. I've been trying to sand the finish off of a single wood shelf which is only about 14" x 8" and this sander can't even handle a single side. Additionally, if you push too hard down on it to try to get it work better the entire thing stops working for extended periods of time. I have a lot of Ryobi products and this is the only so far I would recommend you stay away from!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Cordless Sander I like this cordless sander. I don't have to worry about a plug/extension cords to reach a job any where in the house. It is powerful for a battery powered sander. I would have given 5 stars but it does run through a battery pretty quickly. Luckily I own other Ryobi products and have multiple batteries and atleast one on the charger. Definitely worth the price for a cordless sander.

The sander seems to sand ok, but as expected due to being cordless, it lacks some needed power compared to corded units. Run time is quite short when using standard capacity batteries, less than eight minutes each. Overall this sander would really only serve the purpose if you didn't have access to 120 volts A/C, otherwise your better off with a corded unit.

If you are planning to use it for multiple items, I highly suggest the corded orbit sander. I've had to stop and charge the battery too often it got so annoying. I originally purchased this version just so I wouldn't have to worry about the cord interfering but I wish I hadn't. It works great when at full battery.
