Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by TC Not for sanding down patched concrete
I received two Ryobi One+ batteries last year when I purchased my drill and driver (which I have loved) and figured I'd expand my collection of tools that could make use of those batteries by purchasing this sander.
My first project for this sander was to sand down some spots on my concrete patio and foundation that had recently been patched. Maybe I needed to purchase a different pad to sand concrete because the pads that came with this sander were ground down to nothing after a few minutes of sanding. As others have mentioned, this gets a bit bogged down when applying a decent amount of pressure. I ended up needing to sand down my patched concrete the old fashioned way.
I have loved my first Ryobi One+ tool but this one has underwhelmed so far.

I love my Ryobi tools and really wanted this to work. At first I thought I must be doing something wrong because out of the box it was terrible and I couldn't understand how there could be so many good reviews. Like the other 1 star reviews said it does not spin 10000 per min. In fact, if you put ANY pressure on it, it doesn't spin at all. Then it will all the sudden spin out of control (maybe that's why Ryobi thinks they can call it a "random" orbital sander, it spins randomly). This is not a random orbital sander. It just vibrates and spins when not touching a surface. After using a good random orbital sander I can say for sure this is total junk. Ryobi really missed the mark on this one. Spend the extra and buy a real quality random orbital sander.

I bought this product to add to my Ryobii tool set. I purchased this specifically for sanding down furniture to repair / refinish. It has an easy grip handle and the replacement sandpaper is easy to change out. I recommend this product for prepping hardwood floors and refinishing furniture.

I own a Ryobi drill, circular saw and reciprocating saw and am satisfied with their products. This sander is another story. I bought this sander from HD online and it was delivered as promised. Although the product boasts a 10,000 per minute spin rate, mine hardly made ten revolutions per minute. When I put my hand on the bottom plate, it stopped spinning altogether with the minimum of pressure. (I have a finishing sander which just vibrates. An orbital sander is supposed to spin. ) I returned the sander to the local store which provided me a replacement without any problem. When I got home, I tried this replacement sander and was met with the same poor results. Received my money back but what a waste of time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Russ A perfect finish
This sander produces a smooth perfect finish! I was surprised at how comfortable it sits in the hand during operation. Although other reviewers claim that it is not a random orbit sander, I have had no problems with it and it seems to work exactly as Ryobi has advertised it to. It can and will remove material very quickly, so be mindful of the pressure you are exerting during use. As always, I use Diablo sand paper packs with this product and have had excellent results. Pair this up with a corner cat sander, and you have the perfect combo. The built in dust collection also works wonderfully, and provides plenty of suction to remove dust and put it in the included bag. A vacuum can also be attached easily to the dust port.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by abnormalist Awesome for what it is
Ok, so I picked this up because I wanted a cordless sander, and the reviews indicated that on the 4ah battery the run time was sufficient.
A few points
1. This is not corded. It doesnt provided corded performance. What it does do though is give you NEARLY corded performance without the cord
2. Mine spins fine, not 10,000RPM, but probably 250RPM? With the oscillation though it removes material quite quickly. I've done significant work on rough hewn solid oak and have been impressed so far.
3. Uses standard pads. Nice as I can get em for cheap.
4. Uses the same batteries as everything else 18v and Ryobi. Nice, I can get those cheap too, and I have a pile.
Also the dust collection works pretty well for on tool.
It isn't going to compete with a corded 5" orbital. What it will do though is get you away from the cord for normal weight work, and do a good job with the batteries I already have.
Totally worth the $40 I spent.
