Great sander. Cannot understand the negative reviews.
This things has plenty of power. The wood I'm sanding starts moving around if I don't secure it. So clearly it's not underpowered.
It does go through batteries quickly. But the box states the big battery will last about 40 minutes. Thus, the small batteries last up to 20 min. You can't count that against the product if they tell you up front what to expect from the battery. But on the up side, it's cordless. I love that. The money you save over the more expensive sanders can be used to buy an extra battery if you are so inclined.

If there's one tool where a cord gets in the way at the worst time, for me that's an orbital sander. Picked this up as I had a few finishing projects around the house, and it made sanding so much more enjoyable. I figured no cord would be awesome (it is), but I was especially impressed with the dust system RYOBI built into this. With the holes built into the sandpaper, it actually vacuums the dust right into the bag. Didn't realize how well it was working until the bag was completely full and there was no more room to collect the dust! Made for a much cleaner and enjoyable sanding experience for sure. Very happy with this purchase.

I purchased this sander with great expectations. I have other Ryobi One tools and a few batteries to use. The sander stopped/died within 20 minutes of use. I was stunned. I thought it was overheated. Blew out the dust checked everything. I don't press down when sanding. So, I left it and came back. Started up about 20 minutes later and died a minute. I swapped out the battery for a fresh one and it went along great for about 20 minutes again. I only have the two batteries they are only about a year old. They work fine in the other devices and I don't leave them on the charger. They shouldn't be bad. I'm not sure if I exchange the sander or buy a new battery, but I can't complete my project this way. My corded Dewalt has never quit, but I would like the wireless functionality.

I have been using it for few weeks now and so far i love it. Great sander that doesn't break the buck. Also i love the dust bag feature. Now I have multiple Ryobi tools that do great.

I bought this orbit sander 2 weeks ago at the local Home Depot. I was skeptical due to some reviews but i thought for the $40 I would take a chance. I sanded a picnic table using "Diablo" brand sand paper. It was awesome. The sander can get a bit heavy if using it with just one hand for more that 10 min straight but not to where it's unbearable. I highly recommend this sander for the DIY home projects. My only complaint is that the orbit sander eats up the batteries very very fast. In less than 10 min the battery dies. Luckily I had 4 of the ONE+ Lithium+ 18v batteries and 2 chargers. (I borrowed 2 batteries and 1 charger from my son.) The batteries and chargers were able to keep up with the machine. I would have liked to give it a 5 star rating but the battery issue is a big one. Especially if you only have 1 or 2 batteries.

Did notice had to use the 18 Volt One Plus Lithium Battery to get full power from unit. Did a good job once I switched over to this type battery. Let the weight of unit place the down pressure on work piece then did a okay job of smoothing out the finish on the wood. Liked the light weight of unit over my corded sander plus didn't have to keep watching out for the cord.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by TC Not for sanding down patched concrete
I received two Ryobi One+ batteries last year when I purchased my drill and driver (which I have loved) and figured I'd expand my collection of tools that could make use of those batteries by purchasing this sander.
My first project for this sander was to sand down some spots on my concrete patio and foundation that had recently been patched. Maybe I needed to purchase a different pad to sand concrete because the pads that came with this sander were ground down to nothing after a few minutes of sanding. As others have mentioned, this gets a bit bogged down when applying a decent amount of pressure. I ended up needing to sand down my patched concrete the old fashioned way.
I have loved my first Ryobi One+ tool but this one has underwhelmed so far.
