Customer Questions & Answers

My information on this saw is that the battery and charger are not included. Are they required to operate the saw? Or recommended?

If they're required, what is the sku or how do I order it?
Asked by: motherinlaw
No, the battery and charger are not included, hence the "(Tool-Only)" qualifier in the product name. As with all cordless power tools, a battery and charger are necessary for operation. Home Depot sells lots of compatible batteries - just search "Ryobi One+ 18V battery". The cheapest starter kit is this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-ONE-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Battery-and-IntelliPort-Charger-Upgrade-Kit-P128/203466924

This is probably a stupid question but can you use a Ryobi 40V lithium battery with this?

Asked by: SCG
No, this only works with Ryobi One+ 18V batteries.

The box the saw came in says one saw blade is included but it isn't there. Is it maybe in a compartment inside the saw?

Asked by: PattyB
It should be in the operators manual, in a plastic bag. If it is not Call Ryobi customer care. They are very helpful and should happily send another. (1-800-525-2579)

Contrary to what some of the rocket scientists say about non Ryobi "T" blades not fitting (I.e. Bosch) I found this not to be the case. There is a slight spring load you must overcome when inserting the blade but it is not an issue. In my opinion a clear case of operator error.

So I kind of know my way around all woodworking tools. Bosch T-Shank blades fit 1-2-3...Press the blade release, insert Bosch T-Shank blade, then close the blade release. As easy as that. I don't know how someone cant figure that out. As for the jig saw; its awesome...cordless, powerful, and well made. I have the best jig saw Bosch has to offer. The Ryobi isn't as nice but it is 25% of the cost of the Bosch. I have put the Ryobi in my regular rotation for daily use. Add the 4amp battery and it will run all day as the compact (black colored) batteries suck. Lastly, if you cant figure out how to use a tool, you should be doing DIY. Pay someone who knows how to put a blade in a saw. $60 you cant go wrong.

And ... really wanted this to work but noticed that it does not cut straight and moves to the right. And when cutting thicker 2x4's or 1" thick wood, the cuts vertically are not straight as well like the blade is bending on curved cuts. it seems the guide that holds the blade is not really supportive in keeping it straight. had to revert back to my old corded "other brand" that works like a charm. hopefully they release a model to fix these issues so I can add it to the ryobi collection.

The adjustable height of the platform that allows a different part of the blade work on the cut will extend the use of the blade. The variable speed control is very nice. It allows you to have just the right speed to maintain control over your project. The light enhances your view and the adjustable orbit motion for the blade gives you faster cuts.

I had to cut a 1/2 " piece of plywood 19'x18' with a circular hole in the center for an gable power vent-a-later to mount too ! Lazy as I am did not want to go dig out the electric corded jig saw & cord (also wanted to extend my recently purchased 5 piece Ryobi cordless set replacing / upgrading a 5 piece set that is approximately 20 years old pretty raggedy but still works ) ! I sure hope Ryobi does not get greedy like all the other companies making substandard products to increase profit a ability !! Ryobi makes the best cordless tools for the homeowner ! Priced as so the homeowner can afford them !

WARNING: This product will NOT accept "universal" (U, middle in pic) blades nor "T" shank blades (left in pic). It will ONLY accept Ryobi combination blades (T plus U, right in pic) which are not widely available. The new Ryobi blades will apparently fit EVERY jig saw, but their own tool will ONLY accept their own blades. Dirty pool.

None of the t shank or universal blades will fit properly. By properly, I mean the locking collar will not return to its 90 degree location which is a clear indication that the blade is not locked in as it is with the Ryobi blade that comes with the saw. If you want more blades, you will have to purchase more Ryobi jig saws since you only get one blade with each saw you buy. Do not believe all the reviews that state the Bosch blades will fit. Yes they go in the collar but the collar does not go into its full lock position. I have also tried the dewalt blades and the same problem. The saw works well but no good if you don't have a good selection of blades.
