I'm getting to be too old to use a regular pole saw -- myelbows suffer afterwards, for weeks, so since I had other Ryobi 18V-One tools, I added this saw to my workshed. It can easily cut through a 5" branch, at full extension. I've got to get used to the head-heavy balance, but overall it's great. I noticed only that there's not quite enough torque to cut with the top of the bar for undercutting, but two side-cuts do the job, too. I also recently replaced a gas chainsaw with the 40V Ryobi, which is also a great tool. I don't work outside for many hours straight anymore, so one extra battery is fine, and I feel good about working greener.

I primarily bought this pole saw in order to cut some live oak branches that were hanging over my house roof in order to avoid climbing onto the roof and killing myself if/when I slipped and fell. I don't recommend standing on a ladder and extending the saw out to cut higher branches but I did and it worked fine. The power head is a little heavy when you reach out but it wasn't a problem if I didn't over extend my reach. Some reviews were low because reviewers said the chain would come off. If you read the manual and understand expansion and contraction of metal caused by hot or cold prior to and after running the saw, you'll better understand that after a little use, the heat and stretching of a new chain will cause it to come off if you don't make a slight adjustment by tightening it for the 'stretching' but allowing for the heat expansion. In other words, after initial use, tighten it but not too tight as it will contract when it cools off. The blade was plenty sharp and the saw did everything I needed it to do and any issues were user error like trying to over extend to get that one last branch that is slightly out of reach. I have a second battery but I didn't have to use it: battery life was fine. Lastly, work within the parameters of the user and the product and it will do the job well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well, very nice unit-my first chain saw Only down side is if you have a lot of trimming to do, buy extra batteries. Trimming at a friends house, he has 25 pine trees that are coming down. So I was trimming non stop 2 inch to 6 inch branches. The battery would only last ten minutes--but I could cut 20-25 branches down. At a $100.00ea I would hop in the pool until the battery recharged, then hit it again. Saw worked flawlessly--very impressed!! Thanks Ryobi for making quality products. Troy

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great when it worked, died in less than 2 months.... I have now owned the saw for almost 2 months. The saw is only capable of making 3 cuts of a 4-6 inch diameter limbs before it kills the small battery that comes with the saw. Yesterday I was helping my Dad cut some overhanging limbs on his driveway and the saw went to half speed of what it normally operates at and smoke started pouring out of the vent holes. Now when I pulled the trigger it will not work an pour smoke our or will do as described above. I really enjoyed the saw when it worked, I did however believe this would last more time. I am now in process of filing a warranty claim on the saw. I will update this once this has been replaced or repaired.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well - Heavy to Hold We've used this product for about 6mo (borrowing from a family member) and decided to invest in our own. Trimmer works well. Only difficult part is cutting branches that are up high and thicker. You need to make 2 cuts, a slice from above and a slice from below, otherwise the blade/unit can get stuck in the branch and that's a real problem. Just be smart and you'll be fine. For a large area of overhead branches, I suggest a hard hat... learn from me. Branches have minds of their own when falling.

I've used it several times now on hardwood limbs and it quickly does the job. Be ready to retension the chain fairly frequently when the chain is new. When using the extension, just reach the chain to the limb and then let the saw do the work...takes a little getting used to due to the balance. Otherwise, the battery life is fantastic. I'm usually way ready to take a break by the time the battery needs switching. Great addition to my ONE+ family.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performed well on smaller oak branches This product did well on small oak branches, i.e. 4" or smaller. The saw had a difficult time cutting through 6" limbs which I finally left unfinished. I also was happy with the reach but being 5' 6.5" tall I would have been happy with an added extension. I was forced to leave several branches that could have easily been cut had I been able to reach them from the ground. It is a sturdy product that's easily assembled and easy to use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adequate Worked fine day one but quit on day two. Store gave me a new one. Will see how it holds up. Cannot find the chain lubricant anywhere. Nice long reach, easy take down to transport but watch for oil leaking. Does the job as expected for an electric saw but goes through batteries fast.. Couldn't afford a Stihl so got this on sale. Glad I didn't pay full price but ok for occasional use, if this one holds up.
