Answer:
The batteries should last up to two years, when the battery starts to get low the Schlage light will start flashing and I recommend you to replace the battery as soon as possible. Please call 888-805-9837 if you have anymore questions or concerns.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent experience with this purchase This is my second purchase of this lock for my house. I installed the first one at the front door and my wife liked it, so this one is for the back door. Homes Depot was able to rekey this lock to the same key as the first lock while I waited at the store. The installation was easy by following the instructions exactly, step by step. I like this lock because it has a built-in alarm in case it is tampered with. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great door locking system for my vacation rental property This product is easy to install and program codes. It looks good and is durable. I have purchased 10 of these so I know they work well and hold up in pretty extreme conditions (heat, humidity and extreme cold). I will buy more. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Little More Convenience This Schlage lock touchscreen lock is a really nice convenience. Replaces your current deadbolt in just a few minutes. You do not need to make any more holes in your door or anything. The install takes about 5-10 minutes. It already has 2 pre-programmed user codes in it. Programming more custom codes is not difficult to do as long as you follow the directions. (You can also still use a regular key if you like) It does require 4AA batteries which are NOT included. The built in alarm feature is very nice to give you a little piece of mine. This can also use with the Nexia Home Intelligence system. If you want the ability to remotely lock and unlock the door. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Unlock, Great to Lock! If you want to make your house "smarter," this is the lock for you! It follows the Grade 1 of security, meaning it will be that much harder for a crook to break the door down. It also works with Nexia Home Intelligence, but I do not have that yet, so I don't know how well it works with that system, but on its own it works just fine. It comes with two big long screws that go so far into the frame of the door, it almost felt like it hit the stud. This was alarming to me, but as long as it keeps my door secure, I'm OK with it. I have never created a mortise for the door's frame before, and I did some innovative thinking. Still, the bolt's lock frame fit with the frame well. The overall functionality of the lock is rather impressive. If you hit the wrong keypad code three times, you can control the internal alarm to go off, which plays for about a minute. The alarm is not earth-shakingly loud, but just loud enough to get your attention; it's a loud squeaking sound. We like that you can add extra codes for visitors, babysitters, housesitters, etc. And we like the ability to open the door without a key, although it does come with a key in case the batteries die. The lock takes 4 AAA batteries, and the battery compartment is easy to open, access, and replace when needed. So my only main problems with this product revolved around the key and the mortise frame for the door. For a lock that's smart, it should have some sort of smart key technology to adapt to whatever key you'd like it to take and use so you can use that key with the other locks in your house. Without this smart key feature, you'll have to just deal with that main door as the primary entry of the house, as we did. As for the mortise plate, it would have been nice if it just fit with my existing mortise, which it did not, and for someone that doesn't know much about door locks, this required me to get up to speed on how to create a taller, wider mortise. So be sure to research on that, read the instructions on how deep and wide the mortise should be. A final issue involved the auto-lock feature. The lock does not know when the door is actually closed, so after 30 seconds, the bolt will lock. A possible scenario is, if you leave the door open, and the door auto-locks, a child slams the door, potentially damaging the frame for the door. Not good! But we turned this feature off anyways. Here's a really cool scenario I ran into the other day: left my house, started the car, realized I forgot something in the house. Now, usually I would have to turn off the car to use my keys for the front door. But with this smart lock (and maybe a little too much trust in my neighbors), I just have to walk up to the door, put my code in, and I'm in and back out in a jiffy! When we come home with groceries, we appreciate only having to put in a code instead of digging around for our keys to unlock the door. Also, if the door is unlocked and closed, and you want to lock it from the outside, just hit the Shlage button, and it will lock. I'm not sure why I find this fascinating and cool, but it is! Also, the screen lights up when you push it, and the screen does not smear your fingerprints. This is a good thing! Overall, we enjoy this lock and the "smart" look and functionality of the device. The looks alone could turn a burglar away, and if we forget our keys one day, our house will still open up for us! Thanks, smart lock! March 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing ease of use and great look. The Schlage lineup of touchscreen deadbolts has several variations of the same product with different casings and finishes. I've already purchased a second one in the Camelot style. Both are now included in my home automation network so that I can lock/unlock the doors and update access codes through my computer or phone. Installation really couldn't be much easier. The included manual is detailed and straightforward and depending upon your door, you can easily install the Schlage lock in less than 20 minutes. The main thing that may slow you down is the door itself. In order for the automatic lock to be able to extend and retract, the door and frame need to be well aligned. You can check your current door now. See if the deadbolt slides in and out without resistance. If you have to twist with any force or need to push or pull your door while turning the lock, some corrections need to be made (tips are available on Schlage's website in the Answers section). I had to deepen the hole into which the deadbolt extends in one of my doors and repair the weather stripping in the other. Easily, the best feature of the lock is "Lock & Leave" that when enabled allows you to lock the door upon exiting simply by pressing the "Schlage" button...no code or key necessary (you can change the setting to require a code to lock the door if you want). Also with the Z-wave capability I can unlock the door from my phone in my car so that I don't have to mess with entering a code or fumble with a key if my hands are full. We have also enabled the self-contained alarm in the lock. It can be set to activate simply for multiple incorrect code entry, forced entry or even lighter "tampering". Ours are on tamper and have actually added to our child locks by alarming when our young daughter has tried to get outside. I can easily recommend this product. May 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Batteries not included But everything else was. (It takes 4 AA batteries - not a big deal!) I got this for my basement door so my wife could get to her garden tools from the yard when she doesn't have her keys. This would have been a straight-forward installation except I was trying to save time by reusing my old deadbolt strike. After messing with it for an hour I removed it and installed the reinforcement and strike plates provided with this lock in about 10 minutes. The instructions say that it's critical that the bolt move into locked position without any resistance. I managed this since the opening in the new strike plate was larger than the old one. To allow for potential misalignments due to age or weather the deadbolt is tapered to allow it to work with imperfectly aligned strike plates. It also has two locking forces and automatically selects which one to use. The remainder of the installation and programming took about 20 minutes. It worked perfectly after installation. I installed it on a south-facing basement door and found that the numbers on the keypad, while illuminated, were hard to see in full sun. Programming was straightforward and well explained in the User's Guide. One nice feature is that once you enter the 6-digit programming code you can program multiple functions in one programming session - just enter the function number (0-9) and possibly a user code, depending on the function. I don't have Nexia so didn't test that feature. Operation is simple. To lock or unlock from inside you use the knob, just like any other deadbolt. From outside, to unlock, touch the "Schlage" logo to wake up the keypad and enter your user code. When leaving, I have it set to lock when the Schlage logo is touched, although there are other options, including an automatic relock after 30-seconds. It's pretty easy to add a delete user code in case you want to allow others temporary access. You can have up to 30 different user codes. The code length can be set to 4-8 digits, but all user codes must be the same length. The built-in alarm has 3 operation modes. The default is "forced entry", which detects excessive force against the deadbolt while locked, and results in a 3-minute alarm. "Tamper" detects things like someone trying to pick the lock or jiggle the door to see if its locked and sounds a 15-second alarm. "Activity" sounds two beeps whenever the door is opened or closed - good for keeping track of children. There are 3 sensitivity settings for each mode. A door-edge sticker was included that has simple programming instructions for adding or deleting user code, but it's only useful if you remember the 6-digit programming code. I was tempted to write it on the door edge and may yet do so. March 26, 2013
