Thank you so much Scotts for not discouraging insects - I want the bumblebees to stay happy sleeping in my dahlia's and the other bees in my flowers - thank you for being a good steward for the planet. The bark mulch is beautiful and affordable. Its extremely unlikely there will be any weed issues - people who had them likely had the seeds there Under the mulch in the First place ! !

Answer:
Most insects are not attracted by mulch, but some could be. Our mulches are not treated to deter insects. Insects are natural to the environment, and some insects could find a mulch a suitable place to live. As a general precaution to discourage subterranean termites and other wood damaging insects we suggest keeping mulch a couple inches away from home foundations.

This mulch was on sale on Memorial Day and Labor Day for pretty cheap. When I spread it on a weedless flowerbed, all of these Canadian Thistles popped up, like 100's of them . The seeds must have been in the mulch. It took a lot of RoundUp ounces to finally remove the Thistles from my flowerbeds. Other than that for the price the color was fair.

I didn't find any bugs in it when I purchased it. They are just wood chips and the bugs I see in my garden now were the usual ants, pill bugs etc. They have neither decreased nor increased since I installed these chips. They do however have an effect on weeds. The weeds are now few and far between and easy to deal with.

Mulch is scrap tree bark & wood scraps. Bugs are a natural part of landscaping, but I personally have not had a problem using this product on my own landscape. Just replaced my first 2-shrubs since 1990, and his was because of heavy snow we had the last 2-years. To much water from the snow did them in.

I don't believe anything about it will actually attack bugs. But, it does prevent weeds and plant life from growing....and that, in general, will keep bugs away. If they have nothing to eat they will not hang out.

In this product NO but some other do have bugs. If it is wet in the bag for a long time and some times mold may grow in bags. I do know other cheaper products will have mold and bugs due to the chemicals they do not use. I try to use Scotts.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by OUTSTANDING Mulch!! I purchased 70 bags of Scott's Earthgro Red Mulch. And 70 bags of Vigoro's Red Mulch. When I arrived at Home Depot to pickup all the bags, I realized that they are TOTALLY different types of mulch. Scott's Earthgro is actually REAL looking mulch. And Vigoro's mulch is SHREDDED! It almost looks like red sand. So needless to say, I ended up returning to customer service. And getting a refund for the Vigoro. I then purchased an additional 70 bags of the Earthgro mulch. If you want REALISTIC looking mulch, stick with Scott's Earthgro! June 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by mushrooms included Product is red mulch. Been using it for years, buying dozens of bags when they have $2 per bag sale. This year we're going an unwelcome surprise... Extra stinky mushrooms grow out of it! June 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Differing Quality of Mulch I purchased 50 bags of Red. The Home Depot was very helpful in pulling the bags and loading into my truck. The offered to load a pallet and this was to much so they hand stacked. The product was unloaded and installed at my house and while it looked okay dropping the bags around the house the much doesn't match. Some product looks like ripped up wood products, some looks like chipped trees and some looks like chipped tree bark. The kids that I paid did not really pay attention to the differences in the product but it looks bad. As seen in the pictures there is variability in the colors of red as well. April 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Scotts red mulch I have always liked Scotts products, but this stuff is junk The part that was red was barely red, and half of it was white and looked mildued. It would have looked better if I threw the mulch away and put the bags down! May 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First time mulching, turned out great!(i think) I saw the price Home Depot had on this stuff and it seemed a good time to get our backyard some much needed TLC. The color is great! Doesnt look too crazy but a lot more interesting than boring old brown. WIll be back to buy some more while the price is right. The lady at the Roseburg store Garden Center was extremely helpful and pleasant. April 17, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mixed feelings After reading some of the reviews which my gut told me not to purchase, but I went ahead and bought 90 bags for spring gardening. I thought those could have been bad batches and the problems fixed in production so future batches/lots would have been corrected. Price was great but again, you get what you pay for. I feel very disappointed because as you see in the picture the red mulch looks great (it is a deep red color) while it is wet inside the bag. After distributing on our yard you can see from the picture that red looks more like brown after 24 hrs. there is a big discoloration difference. Wow did not expect that from Scott, I expected more quality control and a better product. Bag says 12 months guarantee for color, Which one the red or the brownish one i got after 24hrs? I do not blame Home Depot for this, but if I was the procurement manager for Home Depot with the Scottt account, I re-consider. April 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks Great I just laid this down today. Hope it stays red for a year like the bag says. April 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Keeps color nicely but... I used this last year and much of the mulch has kept it's color. It also doesn't smell bad when wet. Two pluses. However I've noticed this year and last year that there's bit of white mold in the bag and it can get moldy in flower beds, too. If I'm going to pay over $3.00 for a bag of premium mulch, I don't expect it to be moldy. It's better than some brands that I've purchased in the past. If I didn't need 100 bags of mulch to cover my flower beds, I'd probably buy a more "high end" brand or type. July 10, 2016
