can you use it for top dressing the lawn ?

Asked by: allen
Yes, combine with grass seed and your results will be excellent. Key is to keep lawn watered twice a day till seeds sprout. Depends on weather.

How do I keep the grass from getting yellowed from the dog?

We keep getting yellow spots and let it go for good ... now I am wanting our lawn back..
Asked by: Nanapat
Feed your dog like a tsp of tomato paste that is ONLY tomato daily. WARNING seasons added like onion, garlic & pepper family, even in small doses, are toxic to their kidneys and will cost you more then the pain of looking at yellow grass. The citric acid in the tomato helps balance the ph factor. Or put your dog on a better food that is higher in protein, less grain. - either less yellow over time. Neither are instant cures but over time you will see improvements in future spots forming in about 4-6+wks.

Turf Builder 1.5 cu. ft. Lawn Soil is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 118.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job! Does what it's supposed to do. I get brown patches in my lawn annually due to the heat and the occasional undisciplined dog or cat. When needed, I pull up the brown grass, apply Scotts grass seed to the area, then cover the seed with the lawn soil. Water area daily and just over a week later new grass arrives!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product I bought 6 bags of this to seed my back yard. I was hesitant after reading some reviews here. I must say i was glad i went ahead and bought them. For 7 bucks per bag it is well worth it. I didn't see any plastic or any other stuff in the soil as others have stated. It was a bit damp and had clumps that needed broken up, but not a big deal. I seeded my lawn using this soil and i had grass growing up in less than a week. So i am going to assume those who say grass doesn't grow in this soil doesn't know how to seed a lawn or didn't properly maintain it in the early germination stages. Definitely pick this up if you need to plant some grass. It's more than worth the money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This is soil? Purchased four bags of this to aid in the reseeding of a few bare spots in my lawn. My plan was to cover freshly spread seed with a small layer of this soil to cover the seed. After pouring out the bags I noticed that each bag consisted of more than 50% mulch/wood chips and small .5-.75" rocks. Seemed like there was more debris than soil/dirt. Overall I do not feel I got what I paid for and I am worried that with all the small pieces of wood that I will have mushroom/mold issues later on. I do not know if I just got four bad bags or if this is what Scott's considers "soil." I can not recommend this soil and will not purchase it again in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely Disappointed. Scotts should be embarrassed I was very disappointed in the 2 bags of this 'Lawn Soil?' from Scotts. I guess I expected better for the price and from Scotts. I decided to buy/try it, in lieu of the basic cheap top soil for less than 1/4 of the cost. As another stated it was full of rocks, twigs, sticks, some plastic debris. I wasted half an hour of my time sifting all the debris out of this soil before spreading it out. Hopefully the quality of the actual soil is decent and my grass grows in ok. I have since returned to HD for 10 bags of the least expensive top soil and was amazed to find it had less junk and debris in it than the much more expensive Scotts Lawn Soil. I would expect this to be reversed. Needless to say I will never spend the extra money on the Scotts product again. I will buy cheap, mix in a little of my own new seed fertilizer and save a lot of money and time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from More than "soil" in the lawn soil I used Scotts Lawn Soil when overseeding my lawn this Spring and noticed quite a bit of foreign debris mixed in with the soil. There were pieces of broken glass, shredded plastic, shredded paper, large twigs, etc. mixed in. Makes you think twice about walking on your beautiful lawn barefoot. I will not be purchasing Scotts Lawn Soil when overseeding in the future. I may stop using Scotts altogether. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This can hardly be called "soil." I am really disappointed in this product -- followed the directions on the bag, and after the first rain (which was not a downpour), all that was left was a bunch of wood chips and pieces of ground-up plastic and metallic foil. My grass seed was exposed and the birds had a heyday. I am shocked that Scott's would put their name on this. It isn't cheap to buy, but they sure have made it "cheap" with all the non-organic filler, and maybe a moment of silence for whatever "soil" was mixed in to make it look good. What a complete waste of time and money. I will think twice before buying another Scott's product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Various debris in Lawn Soil I used Scott's Lawn Soil when re-seeding my lawn this spring after a big part of my lawn died. I bought 18 bags of the lawn soil and noticed that every single bag had some type of debris in it. There were things that I would expect like unbroken down twigs/wood and rocks, but every bag also had glass, plastic, and styrofoam. It was my first time using Scott's Lawn Soil and I don't think I'd use it again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Most disappointing purchase I always thought Scotts brand was the top of the line. Evidently not so. I purchased 6 bags of LAWN SOIL and a bag of grass seed. I followed the directions and applied the products as instructed. I watered twice daily and the results were terrible. Not a blade of new grass has grown. Please let me know what remedies you might suggest. Thank you
