Product Overview

The 1/2 in. SharkBite Push-to-Connect Ball Valve is the easiest way to install a new or replacement shut-off ball valve. The single lever control allows for easy operation and the valve is perfect for potable water and hydronic applications where a shut-off is needed. SharkBite fittings allow you to join copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool so fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. Get SharkBite and get a grip on your next plumbing project.

Customer Questions & Answers

is this usable as a main cut-off valve for the supply coming into the house from the main water supply?

Asked by: Fuzzy
I see no reason why they can't be used for that connection, but beware they are more easily disassembled without the need for evacuating the water line and applying heat to a solder joint.

Can this be used as a shut off for the hot and cold water lines servicing a shower (copper, replacing shower control)?

Asked by: Kgo81
I would not recommend doing that. This valve is typically used for the shut off to service the shower valves. It's not designed for everyday use. That kind of wear is for shower valves that have typically been lubed with a plumbers Silicone grease and have the tolerances for everyday use.

How do you install

Asked by: Darryl
SO EASY! Cut the pipe and push the pipe into both sides of the valve. That's it! If you need to remove the pipe, though, you will need a tool to release it. The tool is $1.50 or so. I bought one "just in case" because you cannot remove the pipe once it is inserted into the valve.

It's spring which means I just turned on the water to my exterior faucets.  I have three of them, with different shut-offs located all across the basement.  I'm pretty paranoid about them freezing as a result of my last house.  My last house was an ill-designed townhouse that gave me a lot of experience tackling DIY projects as a result of shoddy construction and an obvious lack of pre-planning.  One of those projects involved an exterior faucet that was routed through the garage.  No matter how I insulated it, come spring when I turned the water back on it would always be a complete mess as invariably the pipe would burst.  After fixing this twice, I decided to install a second shut-off in the house before the pipe left heated space.  That was the last problem I had with that faucet. Fast forward to my new house, while powering up my exterior faucets I found that there is a 1/2 inch line coming off my main that is routed directly to all three of them.  While browsing HD, I came across this product and it seemed like it would be absolutely perfect to use as a centrally located exterior faucet shut-off.  Not only does this eliminate the need for me to turn off all three spigots individually, but it ensures I will never experience a burst pipe from those pesky exterior faucets in my new house. After shutting-off the water and then emptying the lines, I cut the pipe and put this in its place.  It was a breeze, the whole episode took less than five minutes and involved simply removing a small segment of pipe.  Once cut, I put this on until I felt a small click, at which point I turned the water back on and unsurprisingly there were no leaks.  This thing is great, it's convenient, attractive, simple, and most importantly effective.

I had a hard to get to area and the CPVC valves I was using were hard to shut off. I was afraid to keep using for fear they would break (I had that happen on a main line). These went on fast and easy, no leaks. Yeah, a little more expensive but worth it if you have restricted area to work in.

As with any plumbing joint, proper prep is required. Deburring the inside of the pipe and making sure there is no old solder on the outside. I did have a problem getting it to release the pipe but it is better to have that than it accidentally releasing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from End the frustration After a week of trying to repair an out of service plastic shut-off valve, my local hardware told me about the SharkBite. My old plastic supply lines were smaller than the standard replacement fittings. That frustrating week of trying to stop a leak around that old size pipe using hoarded old fittings, compression, first the purple stuff, then the glue, now tape...now putty...self made washer, o-rings almost drove me to insanity. When my rep told me that the SharkBite would adjust to my ID/OD with one push, guaranteed, it sounded too good to be true. IT WAS THAT EASY. Cutting off the section I'd been working on was the hardest part. The SharkBite simply pushed on and no leak. I was amazed and could not have been happier!!! It worked, it really, really worked with one push. No tape, no putty, no leak!!! Homeowner repairs made simple!!! I'm sure my local professional plumbers don't want me to talk about this, but I'm telling all the neighbors who have the outdated supply lines. Thank you for this product!!!
