Product Overview

The 1/2 in. SharkBite Push-to-Connect Ball Valve is the easiest way to install a new or replacement shut-off ball valve. The single lever control allows for easy operation and the valve is perfect for potable water and hydronic applications where a shut-off is needed. SharkBite fittings allow you to join copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool so fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. Customer Questions & Answers

is this usable as a main cut-off valve for the supply coming into the house from the main water supply?

Asked by: Fuzzy
I see no reason why they can't be used for that connection, but beware they are more easily disassembled without the need for evacuating the water line and applying heat to a solder joint.

Can this be used as a shut off for the hot and cold water lines servicing a shower (copper, replacing shower control)?

Asked by: Kgo81
I would not recommend doing that. This valve is typically used for the shut off to service the shower valves. It's not designed for everyday use. That kind of wear is for shower valves that have typically been lubed with a plumbers Silicone grease and have the tolerances for everyday use.

Will the 1/2 in valve work on 1/2 in soft copper tubing

Asked by: Theo
it works on standard 1/2" copper water pipe. If that is what you mean by 'soft copper' then yes.

1/2 in. Brass Push-to-Connect Ball Valve is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pex products are so easy to use and this is no exception. This is a 4'' in length with a 4'' hand... Pex products are so easy to use and this is no exception. This is a 4'' in length with a 4'' handle and is a ball type valve. Each end is a 11/2'' x 1/2'' pex, copper or CPVC pipe usable. The valve simply pushes on to cleanly cut pipe for a minimum of tools needed and no glue or clamps required. A truley easy to install and easy to understand piping system. Much easier than copper tubing and soldering!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the extra cost I've learned to keep a couple of these in my plumbing box for the many times that I run into a valve that can't be shut off, needs to be replaced, but the line can't be drained. Soldering in these circumstances is impossible, and the speed of mounting a valve like this can't be beat with a compression fitting. One caution -- debur the copper well, because you can't scratch the o-ring inside. If you do, it won't seal well and you'll have to start all over again. What a solution -- permanent, doesn't cost all that much more than a regular brass valve, and installation is a snap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from End the frustration After a week of trying to repair an out of service plastic shut-off valve, my local hardware told me about the SharkBite. My old plastic supply lines were smaller than the standard replacement fittings. That frustrating week of trying to stop a leak around that old size pipe using hoarded old fittings, compression, first the purple stuff, then the glue, now tape...now putty...self made washer, o-rings almost drove me to insanity. When my rep told me that the SharkBite would adjust to my ID/OD with one push, guaranteed, it sounded too good to be true. IT WAS THAT EASY. Cutting off the section I'd been working on was the hardest part. The SharkBite simply pushed on and no leak. I was amazed and could not have been happier!!! It worked, it really, really worked with one push. No tape, no putty, no leak!!! Homeowner repairs made simple!!! I'm sure my local professional plumbers don't want me to talk about this, but I'm telling all the neighbors who have the outdated supply lines. Thank you for this product!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation - Smooth Operation Like most of the other Sharkbite solutions, this ball valve is very easy to use and install (and disassemble using a cheap small tool available from Sharkbite). It installed seamlessly and easily into my plumbing system linking my household plumbing to an exterior irrigation system. No soldering required, no need to evacuate water from the pipes, no concern about using a torch near combustibles, and best of all, NO LEAKS. The pipes must be cleanly cut, no jagged edges. I have used this valve for a while now, and it operates as smoothly, and surely as the day it was installed. I like that the valve orientation can actually swivel after installation (it is not fixed as with a soldered valve), so that the orientation of the handle can be adjusted to accommodate obstructions -- quite forgiving if you haven't otherwise paid attention to the orientation of the valve at the time of installation. Yes, these fittings cost a little more than traditional copper fittings and solder, but for the DIY'r the money saved doing the work yourself, easily justifies using these quality, time saving fittings to say nothing of the peace of mind knowing it's water tight. Highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ball Valve to Shut off Section of Water Pipes for Hose For Winter Made sure I asked our fellow Home Depot Advisers before I allowed myself with plumbing stuff. I look at all the different options to splice into the current wet side of the house & run some needed hose outlets. I was able to cut into my current copper line & place a ball valve before installing the rest of the lines for the house hose outlets. Wanted a shut off Valve easy to access & Positive shut off for winter draining for no freeze pipes for the hose outlets after draining. I Used PVC to run in the crawl space for 3 spots. 2 hose hook ups were installed on the front of the house & 1 for the back. Was able to connect with no leaks & was easier than I expected. Think it out & put it on paper... Go Forth With Confidence!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for adding a valve to an existing pipe the slip version of the valve is designed for adding a valve to an existing pipe. The slip feature allows a small section of pipe to be cut out and then the this product slides onto one side and can then be pulled back to also connect on the other side of the gap. This means you do not have to add a slip pipe in addition to the valve, saving money, time and space. Sharkbite fittings can also be rotated so you should have no problem getting the valve handle in the optimal orientation! Installation could not be easier. Cut the pipe using a proper pipe cutter, but it off with a Sharkbite tool, slid one side of the valve on, use the supplied clip to then pull it back onto the other pipe. Done. Can be used with PVC or copper! No glue, tape or joint compounds needed. Can be resued.
