Answer:
This fitting works on 1 1/2" copper tube sized pipe. Because the difference in pipe outside diameter, I would suggest using a rubber coupling to reconnect the pipe. http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-1-2-in-x-1-1-2-in-DWV-Flexible-PVC-Coupling-P1056-150/100058870

Answer:
Hi,
No, you do not have to remove the PEX stiffener from the fitting. Though only required for PEX, the stiffener can be left in the fitting to use with CPVC or Copper.

Answer:
Dew,
This Cap is not certified for use on Polybutylene. If you are just using to quickly cap off and then make a repair it will likely hold, but would not be warrantied should damage occur. To be safe you could buy out polybutylene conversion coupling (U4008LFA) and a short length of PEX Pipe (U860W5) and convert from polybut to PEX and then cap of the PEX.
Thank you for your question!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What you need in case of a plumbing emergency I keep a couple of these Sharkbite stop fittings in my plumbing tool bucket in case of a sudden plumbing leak. A few years ago, the water line going to my water softener broke and I was able to use these Sharkbite fittings to repair it quickly (after I shut off the water, of course!) Now I keep a couple 1/2" and 3/4" stops and a ball valve in my tool kit for future emergencies. The stops aren't a permanent fix -- just a way to plug the broken line until the appropriate fittings can be installed. The nice thing about Sharkbite fittings is that you can quickly install and remove them again with just a few simple tools. July 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pricey, but super convenient and reusable I keep telling myself that I should buy a crimper and save a TON of money BUT ... I can install a SharkBite component in seconds. I often times find myself reconfiguring my plumbing as I make improvements to my layout. On a number of occasions I've relocated, repurposed or "returned to inventory" for the next project a SB component and it feels satisfying every time. SB quality is incredible. Wouldn't change a thing. Yes it's pricey, but I was able to cap a line that I reconfigured in 7.2 seconds and I can reuse it down the road if I change things up again. June 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent product this product worked perfectly. there are a few things you need to know before using it. you need at least 1 and 1/2" of pipe left to make it fit also your end cut has to be even and straight with no burrs. a great help are the shark bite videos on their web site June 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick and easy It cap off the pipes with ease and its reusable too. Just make sure the copper pipe are clean off good and push it all the way in. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked perfectly Our area had a burst of extremely cold weather and many locals had pipes burst. The wait for plumbers was 3+ days. I was able cut the damaged pipe and use these caps to seal the ends. The entire process took 5 minutes. That allowed me to restore water to half the house. These caps saved me 2 nights in a hotel! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great in an emergency, but reused fittings sometimes leak. Sharkbite caps, couplers, and valves are great to have on hand in an emergency. They are trivial to install and easy to remove. They are generally reusable, but the chance of the inner ring becoming loose and leaving a leaky connection increases dramatically each time the fitting is installed and removed. With a brand new fitting on clean pipe (cut cleanly and square, no scrapes or solder lumps) I'd confidently say they are more reliable for repairs than most diy soldering, especially in tight spaces or wet pipe where soldering is tricky. I would use them as a permanent fix, without reservation, in a location where a tiny leak would not be a problem - an unfinished basement, exposed under a sink, etc. I would not use them inside of a wall or an area where a leak would go unnoticed and cause problems unless I was 100% sure the fitting had never been used before. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best thing to happen to indoor plumbing since... indoor plumbing. Got a couple of these to temporarily cap some supply lines while doing a remodel. Stupid easy to use, just make sure you have a clean cut and push them on. Need to take'em off? No problem, push on the collar and they slide off. No fuss, no muss, no leaks! No heating a pipe enough to burn off the remaining water inside to get a good joint when soldering. Will be nice to have around for emergency use when I'm done with them too. A little pricey at first, but cheaper than a plumber or connections that leak because you had some steam/water leftover when trying to solder. June 5, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! The sharkbite works great. Used it in our travel trailer to cap off some extra lines. Very easy to use! March 5, 2015
