We added onto our 12 x 18 cabin on piers...added an ell around two sides. We poured stem walls up to the bottom of the original cabin. We then set floor joist on these and then put down subflooring. Due to adding to this old building, there are gaps between the end of the flooring and the existing wall. at most 1/2 " gap. I have found out that I have to have a blower test done to be approved by the county....that being they suck air out of your building and find somehow find any air leakage and you are graded on this leakage. If you don't pass, they give recommendations and then you fix, then they retest---$250 a shot. SO M Y QUESTION --0----- I am wondering if this material crammed in THE GAP would make it airtight so that it could pass this test? ALSO----I have 30+ foot of length to cover.....can the ends be stuffed close enough that it would seal......or, do you have a bag that is 30+ feet long------Thanks---Bob

Hello Bob and thank you for your question. Sika Backer Rod will not work for that application, it will not provide a "air tight" seal.

Hello and thank you for your question. This item is for 1/2" joints and cracks, to stop 3 sided adhesion.

Customer Reviews

3/4 in. Closed Cell Backer Rod is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Re chinking I used this product to do a log home repair and re chinking. It was great. The 3/4 " rod could cover most joints as it is plyable enough to work into some smaller cracks. Chinking is pretty expensive material and the backer rod will help you save some money as well as make the chinking less susceptible to cracking.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Make sure its a tight fit I used this to caulk the gap between my pool coping and concrete deck. A newbie mistake I made was to use it where there wasn't a tight fit for it to squeeze into. Consequently, when I caulked, it floated to the surface of the caulk and looked awful. Trying to mess with it got real messy real fast. Not the product's fault, but mine (duh). However, I do think it is overpriced. Next time, I may just use sand depending on the application.
