Product Overview

Designed to replace nails in certain connectors, the load-rated Strong-Drive SD screw has been tested and approved for use in many popular Simpson Strong-Tie products. The SD structural-connector screw features an optimized shank which is specifically designed to be compatible with the fastener holes in Simpson Strong-Tie connectors. The hex head virtually eliminates cam-out and helps avoid stripping of the head during installation. The sharp point of the screw enables fast starts, and the patented serrated threads reduce torque for improved drivability.

  • Tested and approved for use in many of our best-selling connectors for both interior and exterior applications
  • Single-fastener steel-side-plate load capacity of the SD9 exceeds that of the 10d common nail
  • Ideal for use in tight spaces where using a hammer is difficult and more control is desired
  • #9 x 1-1/2 in. structural Screw
  • Includes 100 screws
  • Optimized heat-treating for ductility and strength

#9 1-1/2 in. External Hex Flange Hex-Head Structural-Connector Screw (100-Pack) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cost more, but worth it These are specifically made to go with Strong-Tie hangers and connecting plates. The hex heads are much less likely to strip vs. Phillips head screws, The screws are much easier to place accurately and more waterproof than galvanized nails and nail guns. They are stronger than hardened hanger nails. I just finished a deck using these, and will continue to use them whenever metal plates, connectors or joist hangers are called for.

Excellent product, companion fasteners for Simpson brackets of various kinds. Hex head is easy to drive, and box of screws comes with a hex driver suitable for use in an impact driver. Screw shank can snap off in very tough material where the impact driver does a LOT of hammering, but otherwise quite tough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch Fastener These screws were precisely what I was looking for when installing hurricane ties on my shed. The hex heads fit very snugly into the included bit, which virtually eliminates the chance of rounding and makes it easy to sink them one-handed. The ability to sink these screws with a drill is excellent, so is the ability to EASILY remove them if need be without having to beat on your structure or pry helplessly at nail heads. I see that many folks have complained about the price, even giving the product one less star because they feel that these fasteners cost too much. Look: they do cost more than comparable nails, but only because they are worth every penny. If you have the budget to afford these screws for use with your structural ties, then I highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Security for Joist Hangers I chose these screws because I was replacing an old 20' x 20' deck that was built in the 70's and as I ripped up the deck boards I could see that a lot of the nails used on the joist hangers had been either loosened over time or some the nail head had broken off. I have used these screws on a previous deck and they hold strong, plus they are design for the purpose of connecting joist hangers. The good thing about these also is that if you misplace a hanger for some reason you can easily remove the screw and move the hanger. These screws are also made to withstand the chemicals in pressure treated wood, so they won't rust away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to drive with smaller impact driver I hate banging nails in tight spots, made life so much easier. Easy to remove to lift a joist hanger and reset.
