Customer Questions & Answers

String how to get back out?

Asked by: charles5977
Hi charles5977. Thank you for your question. The Trimmer Joe 4 Amp Straight Shaft Electric String Trimmer is a “Bump Feed” unit. This means that you bump the unit onto the ground and the line should shoot right out. Be sure that you have released the line from the spool after you have installed it. In some cases, there is a secondary lock on the spool to prevent it from unwinding during installation. Be sure that you have wound the string in the right direction. Page 7 of your owner’s manual will give you a visual on how to wind the spool. If the line does not come out after tapping the unit firmly on the ground, you may be our of string and have to refill the spool. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC

Customer Reviews

Trimmer Joe 4 Amp Straight Shaft Electric String Trimmer is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Electric Trimmer for a Reasonable Price This electric unit is of decent quality with convenient features to switch and use it for trimming and edging. It is a good weight for both men and women. While I had a gas edger that I liked, I find the electric model a bit easier to manage. I got comfortable changing from fuel to an electric cord more quickly than I had expected. A good cord and a rollable storage reel are notable accessories. I recommend this edger based on it's price, size, weight, quality (in that order) One should also note that satisfaction with any type of edger is based on the type and quality of cutting cord used. I find the new ribbed type cords cut much better. They vary in overall endurance, so I try a few kinds until I find one that is a good balance of cut and durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from multi functional trimmer this is one of the nicest trimmers that i have ever seen. it has a flower guard to protect valuable and expensive border plants. it allows the trimmer to come close to the plants, without damaging the nearby leaves of the flowers. the handle is large and sturdy, with a nice comfortable grip. we were able to assemble the product very quickly, with the ability to reverse the trimmer to an edger configuration within seconds. this trimmer has the ability to do both roles and cycle between the two with an easy turn of the handle. i would highly recommend this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's Good, Not Great I've had this since November, but have not been able to use this due to snow. but spring is here and time to work in the yard. This shipped from HomeDepot in the original retail carton, no over box or protective packaging. however there was no damage to the product. Assembly was easy enough. you just need a philips head screw driver to attach the plastic guard and then assembly the handle and you're done. It took less than 5 minutes. This trimmer uses a dual fed line which is nice and does a good job. however the factory string is not very good and does not last very long. I would recommend getting a more durable line and tossing the stuff that came with the product. another issue I have had is with the feeding mechanism for the string. sometimes it jams and you need to remove the spool to get to the string. whomever wrapped the line at the factory did a poor job, because it binds up so much. I'm at 6 feet tall and this is almost too short for me to use comfortably. You can also rotate the head of the trimmer between 0° and 180°. which is a nice feature.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could Be Better The product arrived in the original box(no additional packaging), which was dented.Fortunately the product was not damaged. This trimmer is too short for tall people(my spouse is 6 feet tall) but would probably be more comfortable for a shorter person. The motor runs at too high an rpm and is not adjustable. This causes the string to break too easily when trimming along a curb or sidewalk. The string breaks off frequently causing the user to have to stop and take the hub apart and dig out the string which is tedious and time consuming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommend This Trimmer This is a great little trimmer. Assembly was quick and easy. Decent size handle with the ability to hold and operate the trimmer with ease. The trimmer is also lightweight which meant even I as a woman can use it with no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good buy I am a 50+ year old woman and this product was easy to put together. I also love the features. The wire out front doesn't allow me to get too close to the fence so that the line isn't constantly breaking. I also love that it is lightweight and height adjustable since I am only 5'2". An excellent buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult to rewind string The trimmer functions well. I prefer the bump feeder to the continuous feed devices as it tends to conserve string. However when the string ran out and I wanted to had rewind the spool, I didn't find an easy way to do that. I had to pry off a plastic band that was around the spool. I could only effectively wind one side of a double sided spool. I then had to force the band back on. There must be an easier way to do that other than buying the overpriced refill cartridges.
