Product Overview

The TCP 14 Watt (85 Watt Equivalent) Soft White (2700K) BR40 LED Flood Light Bulb is an indoor lamp commonly used in track lighting fixtures and recessed can lights. It boasts a brightness level of 900 lumens, which can be diminished thanks to its dimmable capability. LED technology allows this bulb to stay cool so it won’t heat up recessed spaces or intensify surrounding temperatures and it has a longer lifespan and consumes less power than traditional incandescent bulbs. It has a BR40 shape with a medium base that screws into standard-sized light sockets, producing soft white light equivalent to that of an 85 watt incandescent bulb while using only 14 watts of power.

  • Brightness: 900 lumens
  • Estimated yearly energy cost: $1.69 (based on 3 hours/day, 11¢/kWh; cost depends on rates and use)
  • Life: 22.8 years (based on 3 hours/day)
  • Light appearance: 2700K (soft white)
  • Energy used: 14 watts (equivalent to an 85 watt standard incandescent light bulb)
  • Lumens per watt: 59.1
  • Lighting application: indoor; ideal for use with track, and recessed cans
  • Fashioned with a BR40 shape and a medium base that fits standard light sockets
  • Retains soft white color when dimmed
  • Contains mercury: no
  • Saves more than $195 in electricity over the lifetime of the bulb compared to an incandescent lamp
  • LED technology is a prudent choice for hard-to-reach fixtures, as its long life expectancy keeps replacement chores to a minimum

Customer Questions & Answers

What are the dimensions - diameter, height - of this bulb?

same as a BR 40

Can you replace a 75W bulb with an 85W bulb without burning out the cam that it's placed in?

I am replacing all my flood lights in the recessed cams in my kitchen and I currently have BR40 75W floods. All the LED lights I see at the store do not have the right size bulb in the 75W (too small). The 85W bulbs are the right size (wrong wattage).
Asked by: Kathryn
Hi Kathryn, These bulbs are LED so they are equivalent to 85W but only use 17W! So you are very safe to use this as a replacement.

Customer Reviews

85W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) BR40 Dimmable LED Flood Light Bulb is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied so far! Bought nine 14-watt TCP BR40 flood lamps to replace 65-watt incandescents in our kitchen. The bulbs illuminate to full brightness with no delay. Brightness is only slightly greater without dimmers, and the 2700K color temperature is close to the original bulbs (very pleasing). In addition, six or seven of the incandescents burned out each year, and we hope the extended life of the LED's will save on replacement costs. Since the kitchen is the most-used room in the house, we are looking forward to material energy savings. Only six weeks in, but we are satisfied with the purchase and plan to extend the use of these LED's throughout the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally an affordable LED Flood I have some dimmable and some standard recessed ceiling fixtures. These lights are instant-on, and at full power they look just like the incandescents. When dimmed they don't exactly match the brightness of the incandescents, but that would be a lot to expect from LEDs. They are pretty heavy, so your fixture needs to be stable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased so far Just installed the 20 that we had orderd for our new construction and am very happy. They dim very smoothly with our Lutron switches with no drop off at the bottom and no buzzing or any other noises that I've read about in horror stories online. Also the color is excelent and the light output is as expected (our electrician couldn't tell the difference between these and the incandecents that hadn't been swapped out yet). Naturally I can't yet attest to the longevity but thus far I see no reason why these shouldn't last for many years to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The bulbs work It is very hard to review after only a few weeks a product that is advertised as lasting 23 years. But because I keep getting emails from Home Depot asking me to review my recent purchase, I will do so. Right now, the bulbs are working. The light is good and they go on instantly. I plan to buy more in a few months, assuming these are still working. They are very expensive, but not more so than others I've seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value, Turns in instantly I purchased 3 units, but have only used one so far. Like other LED lights this size it is a bit heavy compared to a standard BR40 bulb. The color is great and it comes on just as fast as the other lights. No warm-up time, no power-on pause :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, but color changes when dimmed These bulbs are a perfect replacement for my recessed floods which are on dimmer switches. My only complaint is that as the bulb is dimmed, the color becomes blueish, more like daylight than soft white. I can live with it, however.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice bulb but flickers with a dimmer I have read a number of dimmable LED bulb reviews and was pleased to see that no reviews for this bulb indicated that it flickered when connected to a dimmer. Unfortunately, the bulb that I received does indeed flicker at any level (low all the way to full-on) when connected to a dimmer. When connected to a non-dimming switch, no flicker is present. In all fairness, the flicker is slight. I am concerned, however, that a room full of these bulbs on a dimmer would be very noticeable. The color of the bulb is great. It matches the color of standard incandescent bulbs very well. The instant-on is also great - a huge improvement over CFL floods that I have installed. I've only had the bulb installed for a few days and am hoping that the life of the bulb is as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacement 23W CFL Excellent light quality; indistinguishable from 85W incandescents. Turn on instantly with no flicker. Silent at full intensity (same when dimmed but that has a lot to do with the control). Naked bulb distributes light evenly across a fairly wide angle. Initially I tried an 18 watt variant from the same manufacturer as the output rating was similar to the CFL bulbs they were replacing (1250 lumens). Turns out they were too bright. These are perfect. Somewhere I read CFLs loose intensity with age. Something to consider when looking at LED replacements. When dimmed most LEDs maintain color temperature better than incandescents; these are no exception. Solid construction. Overall a great bulb.
