Customer Questions & Answers

How strong is the magnet???

Asked by: Wes
There are two differently-sized magnets, about 3/8" x 1 1/4" and 1/4" x 1". See photo (from another web site). Given their positions, the case is capable of holding onto a flat surface IF BOTH MAGNETS ARE USED. That is, it really must be a flat metal surface over the entire size of the case. I have compared this to a competitor's having one larger, centered magnet, and found this to be better -- again, given the correct mounting. One caveat is the size of the key holder. I have a Ford Transit, which has the large chip-type key (expensive). I did not want to store a remote key type under the van (fearing battery leakage in it), so I had to buy a basic non-wireless key, about $110. It barely fits : I had to literally jam it in. A remote-type key (for my vehicle) definitely would not fit.

Look in the reviews. It tells you, but I find it to be rather difficult myself.

will a truck key fit

larger auto keys like pickup truck fit.?
Asked by: Reginabk
The length of my basic key is 3 3/8". See photo. I have a Ford Transit, which has the large chip-type key (expensive). I did not want to store a remote key type under the van (fearing battery leakage in it), so I had to buy a basic non-wireless key, about $110. It barely fits : I had to literally jam it in. The indentation at the bottom right of the holder is the location of the second magnet.

Magnetic Key Box is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong Magnet & Easy to Open I love this key box. It's a great price for a long-lasting, super-functional product that does the job! I'm seeing some reviews here saying that this box is impossible to open... I've had absolutely no such issue with mine, from the first day of purchase, up to today-about a year later. I simply push the top along as indicated to slide open tne box and get to my keys. The magnet is also super strong and will stay in place well. I've got no complaints and highly recommend this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hillman magnetic key holder Read about the size issues. Held my Toyota RAV4 key up to the outside, tight but it would fit. Not. There is a 1/4" bump out on the inside, key is now 1/4" longer than the inside. Cut a hole in the end. Problem solved. Not. The key is also too fat to allow me to close the lid. So, too short and not deep enough. If you drive an old car with a plain key, you're in luck. They need to completely redesign this thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Magnetic Key Holder Ever!! I just wanted to write in and tell everyone that if are to get this key holder it won't slip off or anything. And it goes everywhere that you do provided that you put it in a secure enough area on your vehicle. I have one for my car which I take everywhere with me off road, through puddles, on fairly bumpy roads and when I checked it was still there. Recently I purchased one for a car that I planned on driving across the country and I had loaded it up with every spare key that I was going to need. After 2600 miles it was still in the same spot that I had left it when I started the trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful! Well worth the money. I placed one of these boxes under my vehicle when I bought it 7 years ago and almost forgot about it. It has been through a deer decimating our undercarriage, many washes, winter in the mid-west with salt etc. In my moment of need ( I stupidly locked my keys inside my car)it was still firmly attached to my vehicle and it saved me the trouble of calling my husband or a locksmith. It was like winning the lottery! I will replace my old one as the magnets are rusting, but are still fully functional.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I can't open it!!! This thing has very strong magnets and I have never lost one because of this. BUT I have gone through 3 of them because I have to replace it after every use. Why? Because I have to destroy it to get it open. Is there a trick to opening this device that I'm not aware of? Shouldn't the cover just slide open as indicated by the arrows? Well, it doesn't work for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Here's the secret to opening it! To open, hold it with both hands, and press down firmly on the key picture with both thumbs, while sliding the top. It will open, and is strong and durable. The magnets are super.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed the hard to open problem. I pried the door open and used a nail file to each side of the door - it will slide open easy enough but not so it will come open by itself. They just needed to trim the edges better for a correct fit. Magnets are strong - it works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No Problem Opening It I read the reviews on this item and was hesitant to purchase it but there really aren't any alternatives to this product. I found that if you try to slide it open where the manufacturer indicates that it does not work at all. However, if you place your thumb at the top of the key pictured on it and push it will slide open without to much problem.
