How easy is this Toro 20353 AWD mower to pull backwards from an obstriction such as a fence ?

Asked by: Steve
I had a hard time at first but once I raised the wheels it was much easier. I just purchased the lawn mower today and loving it.

Does this mower actually "do all the work" or does it require some help as in pushing it too ?

Asking this because every self propelled mower I've had including the Craftsman I have now requires "help." I want one that I DON"T have to "help."
Asked by: Steve
No pushing on this one.

What is required for assembly

Asked by: Strath
The hard part is getting it out of the box. No tools required just put handle on with two bolts and knobs.

Recycler 22 in. All-Wheel Drive Personal Pace Variable Speed Gas Self Propelled Mower with Briggs & Stratton Engine is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 773.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from best toro yet!!! I had the rear wheel 20332 for 5 plus years and decided it was time for a new mower. I bought the front wheel drive model and took it back after 10 min of use. I have about 13000 sq ft lot with none of it flat and the front wheel model wheels spun way too much. I bought this awd model and WOW is all i can say. Im really impressed!!! All i have to do is walk behind and sometimes i find myself speed walking to keep up. This awd mower is well worth the money!!! Dont waste your time on the front wheel drive only model and if your willing to spend the 40 more then the rear wheel drive model you will be glad you did.

Let me first start by saying it takes a lot to get me to write a review - particularly a negative one - but after using this mower late last fall and now in early spring, I can't say how disappointed I am with this mower. I previously owned - and was very happy with - my last Toro self-propelled model. When it came time to replace my previous mower, I naturally thought I'd go with another Toro. Since I have a hilly yard, the all wheel drive sounded good, so I thought I try this model. While the all wheel drive does appear to work fairly well – the “self-paced” mechanism is so poorly designed it’s difficult to get it engaged. In order to get then self-propelled wheels engaged, you need to push firmly down and forward – a difficult task when it's positioned well above any comfortable height. To make matters worse, when going up a high (arguably when you need the all wheel drive most), you need to grab onto their “traction assist handle” – again positioned too high - in order to apply enough pressure to engage the wheels. Sadly I’m stuck with this mower, and will probably need to go out and purchase another mower to replace this one – but hopefully you’ll read this and make a better choice.

Picked it up from my local Home Depot, added fuel/oil and it was up and running within half an hour. It started on the first pull too. Assembly is simple and quick as well. Although a really simple thing, I really like the locking handle on this. I've had other lawn mowers with 5/6/7 position handles that always broke or just didn't work for whatever reason. The handle has two positions and locks into place. I just like the simplicity of this. The self-pace and full throttle handle is really nice especially on hills or uneven terrain. Power/torque is pretty good. Had a few issues at a couple spots on the lawn but the grass with really thick/wet. Overall, this did a great job with the lawn.

Purchased this lawn mower June 2016 and took it out today to cut my grass and the drive belt came off. I have been mowing for 25 years never had this issue with a lawn mower within a few uses. I didn't even use it much last year because I had lawn service part of the year.

First a couple of disclosures: I have a Toro bias; I have never had a Toro mower that I didn't like. They have always served me well, being durable and reliable even though I have not been real diligent with the maintenance, and have always produced a nice cut. Second, I have only used this particular mower twice. Having said that, this is a GREAT mower. I went with the all-wheel drive because I have some back issues and a front yard that has about an 8-foot slope from the house grade down to the street level. Even with my old two-wheel drive Toro, I could only manage mowing about a third of lawn before having to take about a 10-15 minute break, to recover my leg strength. With this new mower, I can do the whole yard with no breaks at all and minimal leg fatigue. The "power assist" function is basically just a handle that allows more leverage to push the drive handle down more, and it does definitely impart more power to the drive, but quite honestly, I haven't needed to use it much as the "unassisted" power is more than adequate to get up the slope when needed. LOVE this mower and cannot recommend it more highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent mower...never fails I've bought this mower 10years ago. It never fails! I have just changed out the starter battery once after eight years of usage. It starts every time, even after a long winter. Not much maintenance .... still has the original spark plug. Just a few oil change. Amazing!

I bought this on 4-20-17....It is a great mower as it replaced the Model 20017 rear wheel Toro...I needed awd for the yards I do that have some hills and let me tell you it does great...I have used the mulching and it does well but it does leave some clipping while you make your turns to go back and forth in the yard...I have not needed to bag yet so can't say how well that does but not having to take a plug out to bag it a good upgrade...It does have a weird sound when running not sure if its because it's new or just the new style motor that it has or may even be the front wheel drive system not sure...

The first year was the only full season that I got out of this mower. We have a 1/4 acre so it isn't like I was overworking this thing. Second season comes and she's taking 5 or 6 pulls to start and then dying on us mid way through cutting the grass. Took it to my local Toro warranty repair shop and they said it just needed a PM which wasn't covered and cost me $70. Brought it home, it started with one pull ONCE. Ended up borrowing a family members extra mower for the rest of that season. Here we are at Season 3. Changed the carburetor and gas. Still didn't start on the first pull- still took about 5 or 6 but it worked for the first 3 cuts on this season. Then came yesterday....... 15 pulls to get her started and she sounded violent. Would choke up on a 1/4 patch of grass. Then she stopped all together. She'd start for 3 seconds and die UNLESS you tilted the entire mower back- like you were going to murder someone via lawnmower. I bought Toro hearing it was a great mower that lasts for years, but now I really feel like I just spent $300+ for one year of grass cutting.
