Answer:
If it's a wood composite, it may work OK (probably better than paint or other deck sealers). If the composite is poly or a petroleum-based product, I would not use it; many of those shouldn't need sealer anyway.

Frustrating to us as a manufacturer that we can't get exempted as we are not latex paint and are non toxic, so technically we aren't even part of the problem/initiative. However, being our product is so unique, they paint care program doesn't have any method to submit exemptions.
We keep trying and in the meantime, it is available at other sites that can ship to Paint Care states.

I have no idea why they won't ship to OR,CA, you would think that since it's voc free and non-toxic they would.
But if you live close to NV or Az check to see if they will ship to those states
Just some stupid rule!!!

"Online Price includes Paint Care fee in the following states: CA, CO, CT, MN, OR, RI, VT" per The Home Depot website. So it looks like they ship to CA, but your state has a Paint Care fee that will be added.

Answer:
Airless sprayers are best for an even application and maximum coverage.
Having noted that-If the application is not critical, appearance and usage wise(Planter Boxes and such), garden sprayers work to apply. You may find it necessary to roller or brush to stop drips but it is an easy way to get the product on an area fast.

VOC Free Non Toxic Lumber-Seal 1 gal. Clear Satin Wood Sealer is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far So Good I applied this to rough cut hemlock. It's easy to over do it as it's milky and soaks up quickly. I ran out and had to buy another gallon. I was more careful with the second gallon and had enough to finish the first coat and apply a second coat. It's easy to apply with a broad brush and it dries pretty quickly. It also washes out of the brushes pretty nicely. It gives the wood a really nice rich color - a shade or two darker than no color at all. Only time will tell how well it preserves the wood. Living in Maine, the harsh weather does a number on any exterior. I'm prepared to re-apply every 2-3 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product The sealer applies thin per it's low viscosity. Need to apply several coats due it's watery consistency. I used it inside my chicken coop to protect wood from chicken droppings and watering system drippage. Its has protected the wood thus far and I like that it's safe for my chickens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VOC Free Non Toxic Lumber-Seal 1 gal. Clear Satin Wood Sealer I did a lot of research before purchasing this sealant and I decided on the middle of the road, quality wise and price wise. Originally i wanted to buy a gun and spray it, but I changed my mind and decided to use a large good brush that I have. I have a 25x15 deck that needed some serious TLC. So I first power washed it really really good and than I ordered 3 gallons of this sealant, free delivery. Got it promptly earlier than advertised. The square footage called for 11/2 gal.But I ordered 3 just in case!!n I open the can and I almost had second thoughts. The product looks exactly like milk. same color and the same texture. I am 77 and I did not think that I could manage, so my luck the teen next door came to my rescue. The first day he did the outside perimeter of the deck and that took 2 hours. (from 10 am to 12 pm.) And than he came next day from 9am to 12 pm. Did the inside perimeter and the deck floor, and that took to the last drop without skimping or stretching exactly 2 gal. It looks like a million bucks. (Paid the kid $100), Returned the 3rd. Gal. to Home Depot, got credit and I am delighted with the end results. P.S. We were generous applying the sealant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product It looked great after application. The only problem was that I had not considered the fact that it was transparent. Since I had to use wood filler on a lot of places, I discovered that I actually needed a solid wood stain, so I had to add another layer of solid stain. But I am sure this product will work as expected. Most important for me: it is VOC free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommend Used to seal cedar dock planks. Product milk-like (skim milk) consistency and color, used an inexpensive 2 gallon garden sprayer to apply to cedar boards. Very happy with results so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff Used it to seal redwood raised beds. Looks great and non-toxic It was easy to install using a garden sprayer. Make sure you clean the sprayer quickly after using it with soap and water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent coverage for platers went on easy and cleaned up easy too. I used this on the inside of some wood planters that I built for growing vegetables. I wanted some protection for the wood, but something that was safe for food. This looks like the right combination. It is a shame that no stores carry the product. It was delivered to my local store in only a few days nicely packaged and no issues. I did leave the wood with a slightly whiter look then when it started, but overall I only used on the inside anyway so not a bid deal. If you are using on exposed surfaces you might want to have a test sample first.

This sealer went on very easily and even though the directions say it's not necessary, I went ahead and applied 2 coats. It goes on very easily and seems to work well. Time will tell if it lasts like it says it will (which is one of the main reasons why I chose this particular sealer---5 year warranty), but for now, it gets 5 stars. I don't remember what type of coverage the directions say it will cover, but my deck is 14' wide and 22 feet long and I used 3 gallons (two coats).
