Answer:
If it's a wood composite, it may work OK (probably better than paint or other deck sealers). If the composite is poly or a petroleum-based product, I would not use it; many of those shouldn't need sealer anyway.

Frustrating to us as a manufacturer that we can't get exempted as we are not latex paint and are non toxic, so technically we aren't even part of the problem/initiative. However, being our product is so unique, they paint care program doesn't have any method to submit exemptions.
We keep trying and in the meantime, it is available at other sites that can ship to Paint Care states.

I have no idea why they won't ship to OR,CA, you would think that since it's voc free and non-toxic they would.
But if you live close to NV or Az check to see if they will ship to those states
Just some stupid rule!!!

"Online Price includes Paint Care fee in the following states: CA, CO, CT, MN, OR, RI, VT" per The Home Depot website. So it looks like they ship to CA, but your state has a Paint Care fee that will be added.

Answer:
Airless sprayers are best for an even application and maximum coverage.
Having noted that-If the application is not critical, appearance and usage wise(Planter Boxes and such), garden sprayers work to apply. You may find it necessary to roller or brush to stop drips but it is an easy way to get the product on an area fast.

Answer:
You would have a tough time getting stain to stick to a wood sealer. Stain would need to be done prior to the sealer. I'm sure you can paint over it, but it's not going to make your paint finish better.

Answer:
Hello Matt1958,
Thank you for your question!
Painting or staining directly over this product will be difficult. Since its a sealant, it's supposed to repel water, which means it will also repel paint and stain. I would highly recommend removing this product and then staining or painting the surface to ensure proper adhesion.
Have a good day,
Christine

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by VOC Free Non Toxic Lumber-Seal 1 gal. Clear Satin Wood Sealer I did a lot of research before purchasing this sealant and I decided on the middle of the road, quality wise and price wise. Originally i wanted to buy a gun and spray it, but I changed my mind and decided to use a large good brush that I have. I have a 25x15 deck that needed some serious TLC. So I first power washed it really really good and than I ordered 3 gallons of this sealant, free delivery. Got it promptly earlier than advertised. The square footage called for 11/2 gal.But I ordered 3 just in case!!n I open the can and I almost had second thoughts. The product looks exactly like milk. same color and the same texture. I am 77 and I did not think that I could manage, so my luck the teen next door came to my rescue. The first day he did the outside perimeter of the deck and that took 2 hours. (from 10 am to 12 pm.) And than he came next day from 9am to 12 pm. Did the inside perimeter and the deck floor, and that took to the last drop without skimping or stretching exactly 2 gal. It looks like a million bucks. (Paid the kid $100), Returned the 3rd. Gal. to Home Depot, got credit and I am delighted with the end results. P.S. We were generous applying the sealant. July 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by One can didn't seem to be enough We put down a 12 foot by 24 foot plywood floor and there was not enough in the can to do 2 coats. Had to put it down in a hurry due to rain being expected the following day. It was beading up a bit after the rain but this was not a hard rain. I feel like at least 2 coats would have been better. Just my 2 cents. I do like the ease of being able to treat like paint and roll on with a roller. We would purchase again but would purchase twice the amount for this size project. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outdoor bar top I was trying to find a coating that was not oily and safe for my kids since it is a bar top on the railing of our deck. It applied to the reclaim fir beam great. When I brushed it on it looks white but as it dries it becomes clear and will darken the wood the more coats you put on. However, if you want a thick finish, I applied 12 coats. We will see how it holds up to a rainy Oregon winter!!!!! June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good so far... It looks milky when applied (even bubbles too) but all that goes away when it dries. It's very easy to apply. I just used a cheap paint brush. I'm using it on an exterior wooden door and due to other home projects (I'm always juggling too much) I haven't installed the door yet to see how it does. I am putting multiple layers for this application. I'd probably give it a 5 but since it hasn't been put to the test yet... June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Impressed, Better Than I Expected This stuff is great! Easy to apply, coverage is generous, and best of all, it works! The "after" photo was taken about 2 months after application. I was surprised the wood wasn't absorbing any water. It does seem a little steep at $40, but it works. Better to spend a few more dollars than waste $ and time with something else. Just wish it were stocked and not limited to online sales. November 16, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I don't know if this product is good or not. I purchased this product to put on a pool deck that was 13 years old. The product was purchased because it was non toxic and people would be walking on it in the bare feet. The deck was cleaned with a deck cleaner and power spray. The wood was pressure treated lumber. When the product was opened it was like using white water. I expected to see that it would have been thicker so that it would seal water from the wood. I put on 3 coats of this product and didn't really see much sealing effect. I have also noticed that the my wood has turned a darker color than when it was cleaned. I am assuming that this is a result of the sealer. My personal opinion is that I would not recommend this product. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product I brushed this on bare A/D plywood, both sides. I got about 350 square feet per gallon. One coat seemed to seal it well. Clean up was good when multiple rinses were used (5). If the brush sits for any length of time the polymers harden and a film forms on the brush and on the can rim, so do as much as possible in one session. I kept the sheets separated for 4 days in warm weather (80-90 degrees) and they stuck together slightly when stacked after drying. June 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked Great Wanted a non toxic sealer to prolong the life of my outdoor, untreated wood compost bin that I use to make vegetable garden soil. Product went on smoothly and easily. Turned untreated wood a pleasing gold color. As far as durability...only time will tell. December 9, 2015
