Answer:
If you mean will you be able to change the speed of the fan with the remote, the answer is no. You can only turn the fan motor on and off with the remote. However, if you have a three speed fan, you'll still be able to change the speed with the pull switch mounted on the fan itself.

Sometimes I just want the light, sometimes just the fan. Do I have to do that with the pull chains, or can this unit operate the fan separate from the light?

This universal remote can dim the lights or turn on and off, the fan function allows for on and off, but the speed control is done with the pull chain.

Answer:
Hello! Yes, you can operate the fan and light separately with this unit. It only turns the fan on/off and only turns the light on/off. It doesn't adjust the speeds of the fan or dim the lights. It is strictly on/off fan and on/off light. We hope this helps!

To clarify, I only have one wire to the ceiling fan location and it is not controlled by a switch (the wire will always be hot). So the remote will be the only thing I can use to turn on/off the fan and the light. If the remote only turns both of them on/off at the same time, I would still have to use the pull chains if I want only one of them on at a specific time. Dimming LEDs?

Asked by

I got this unit because I wanted to be able to dim my LED bulbs, however, after the first time it won't dim anymore. I read that it detects CFLs, but these are totally dimmable LEDs. Is there a way to fix this?

It depends on the LED. My LED work great with this device. Try a different LED, I am not saying go buy one if at all possible. Also make sure you check if there is a dip switch in the back near the batteries. Mine had one

Answer:
If you have another remote mounted in your fan this hand held unit will probably not sync to it. This unit is a remote hand held transmitter and a matching receiver which mounts in the fan. So if you install the unit in the fan then the remote will sync to it and control your fan.

Rated 2.7 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely basic unit This remote is an extremely basic unit. It turns the light/fan on and off. I could not get it to dim. It will not change fan speeds. The installation was not difficult but I am not a fan of working with wires so I watched someone else do it. For those of you like myself, by the time you pay an electrician, just get a hard wired switch installed for the light controls and fan speeds. It will work forever and you can control it all. This remote can be lost and frankly, the other option will save you time and aggravation in the long run. This product is so basic that it will not suit many people's needs. August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fan\light remote Installed the receiver in 30 minutes. Sync with remote was as instructed. Overall product was excellent. Recommended for DYI project. (be sure to turn breaker "off" before starting installation) Sure wish an additional remote was available so we could put one in each vehicle (we like to turn on the porch light when returning at night). Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Taking it back. I have installed ceiling fan controls before with no problems. I followed directions, made sure all connections were correct, paired the controller as directed, but it did not work. Doubled and triple checked connections before finally giving up and connected the fan directly. Could have been a bad battery, but controller has no LED light to check that. I bought this controller because it was cheaper, but I should have just paid more and got the one I've used before. I should have read the review before buying it. May 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ceiling fan remote I installed one of these about a year ago and it still works great. Just installed another, installation is easy, just remember all you get is on/off of the light and the fan. It does not control the fan speed. May 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy and works great Very simple upgrade to install. Bery affordable. Great buy. April 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fan remote review Installed in our guest bedroom. installing the remote receiver along with the wiring in a standard box is a bit tight but it can be done and works great once installed. March 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unreliable The first one stopped working completely after a few weeks. The second one, for which I had to pay my handyman $40 AGAIN to R&R, is still working after a few months but the buttons often need 2 to 3 presses to cooperate. That's shoddy enough workmanship for a 1 star rating in my firm opinion. February 29, 2016
