Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be used indoors in a bathroom with satin paint as clear sealing top coat?

Asked by: thehubbards
I have used this over acrylic flat and satin paint with great success for out door products. I my self would consider it for bathroom use but not where it would continually be subjected to water.

Does the case of two (2 quarts) cost $31.96 or does each quart cost $31.96 for a total of $64?

Your web advertisement seems a bit vague on the price of one or two quarts. I'd happy to buy just one quart, if possible.
Asked by: Bill
If the price is shown and the description shows (Case ot 2) the price is for the 2 quarts, not 1.

Does this also protect from RAIN and High humidity.. Live in South Texax!

Asked by: LKay
Happy to help! Varathane Water-Based Spar Urethane is recommended for exterior use and holds up well to the elements. Keep in mind that high humidity and rain can cause the coating to dry slower. Keep in mind that once it is dry, your coating will last years when applied correctly!

1-qt. Clear Satin Water-Based Outdoor Spar Urethane (Case of 2) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy application and easy clean up applied to interior doors laid flat and it is self leveling product that covered in two coats. just keep in mind that this product does not go as far as others. when I used minwax polycylic in the past it wasnt as easy to achieve a run, puddle free application as this varathane product, but the other product went farther and did 3 coats on two doors - front, back the edges and enough to do the trim. this varathane did two coats front , back on the doors and it was empty. the front and back look great. I have some of the other left that can finish the edges that are still raw. [undone] I will need to get more varathane to cover the trim.

Was very disappointed when I learned it was no longer going to be available. Was told by Rustoleum rep that this is the same varnish. Got my first quart and found it to be the same. It is easy to use and water clean up. It lays out smoothy and dries quickly. And as stated on the can, crystal clear, non yellowing. Although I just used it I would expect it will have the same properties for exterior use and durability. I highly recommend this product and would use no other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Please carry this in the stores This is a fantastic product. Provides crystal clear coating and superior protection. Why don't they carry it in the store?? If you want it you need to buy a pack of 2 quarts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff I used this product on my outdoor table and it's looking great... It does get a white hue when it is soaked in the rain but there is nothing to worry about because it disappears as it dries just like my indoor varathane diamond finish.... Dries quickly sands smooth, really easy to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looking for a quality finish....... Keep Looking! If you’re looking for a quality finish....... keep looking. This product is a waste of your hard effort. I was looking for a solid product to finish an outdoor project and tried this product..... what a mistake! This JUNK will not lay flat and leaves your project looking like a mess. I tried to spray it on and I tried to brush it on with no success. If you’re looking for a product that will bolster the ego of your four years old and their finger painting project..... You've found it, but if you’re looking for a quality finish, keep looking!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stands up to its purpose I used it to protect a workbench I use indoors and outdoors. The product behaves exactly like the labels says. I used a brush and my Wagner HVLP system. The product has tendency to foam if you over apply it and work it in difficult places with many edges and small surface - HVLP system is the way to go. I applied the product in the middle of Arizona hot summer - and I don't recommend you do the same if you want the clearest possible finish. The product tends to have milky appearance when you apply 4 coats with a brush and at room temperature. Note that this finish stays somewhat flexible when fully cured - so, it will mark when you hit it with a solid object.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy cleanup Very easy to work with and clean up as would be expected. As with all urethanes it is really important to not apply too thick layers. It dries relatively fast in thin layers. The finished result does tend to get a white milkish hue when wet, but it disappears again when dry. Have yet to see outdoor durability in sun and rain

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear Satin Water based spar Used on exterior sign for the ranch entrance gate and will see how it holds up compared to oil based products sold from the past. Spread ok and dried looking great. If they could print the instruction lable a bit larger it would help, dang near need a magnifying glass to read this lable!
