Customer Questions & Answers

Do these lights have an on/off switch so I can turn them all off and enjoy the darkness?

Asked by: Ron
No they do not, but they don't light up much of anything, they're merely for ambiance. They look more like the twinkle of a distant star than a useful light.

4 in. x 4 in. Post Cap Solar Powered Black Plastic is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 572.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love These This is one of the least expensive solar post caps they have and it actually puts out a lot of light, but you need to buy a roll of white duct tape and tape over the glass areas inside that facing away from the areas you want lighted and I also taped above the light and cut off any excess. I installed these as corner lights and the white tape inside is not even noticed.. It now puts out 2 to 3x more white glowing light.. Also I glueed clear pieces of cut plexiglass on top of each light and placed another piece under the light to keep water/bugs from sneaking in over time.. I will see how long these last.....

This cap fits posts which are 3.5"x3.5" but if you get treated cedar posts from HomeDepot which are 3-5/8x3-5/8 the cap won't fit. The other Veranda solar cap which sells for $2 more fits 3-5/8"x3-5/8" posts. Between the two this cap is taller and its top is loose so its very easy to rotate and replace batteries - but that may also mean its easier for water to get in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good price I've had this solar lights for about 3 yrs now and they still work great. I will buy again when I finish my back decking. The only Cons. for this solar lights is that the cap locking is kinda weak but only on high winds they sometimes blow off.

However, inspect the contents of the package before purchasing to save yourself another trip. I bought 14 in total and had 1 that was smashed in the box, 2 with dead batteries that I had to replace with my own batteries and 1 that just wouldn't work. They're a bit flimsy and brittle so I did not put any on the rails for my stairs since people would be more likely to touch or bump into them. They don't light up the surrounding area of the deck at all, these are merely for decoration, which I knew when purchasing. They don't throw off much light at all but they do give a nice classy look to the deck. Installation was a breeze and took a minute or less for each one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Easy to install I have 6 posts on my deck and 1 on my mailbox that I replace with these solar lights every 2 yrs. They do not give off enough light to do anything with but they set a soft mood in the yard and at the end of the driveway they mark my entrance way.. Note - if you place them on every post of a deck, they may cast too much light on each other to activate the solar light, so keep that in mind when deciding how many to buy. They install quickly with two small screws that go through the light frame into the post.. If you don't get a lot of wind, you don't even need the screws.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It does the job I had a huge limb that came crashing down & destroyed one & the other was pretty well worn out. I purchased these to replace them. I did replace the 600mAh batteries with 900mAh batteries because they do give off light for a longer period of time. I also replaced the screws with stainless steel (the ones provided are one step above junk)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good...and not so good Bought 15 of these 3 years ago. They give off excellent accent lighting. Don't expect these to give off more than that since they are solar powered and cost $5 each. 3 years later though 5 of these lights quit working. Re-charged the batteries and still no good. Just bought 5 replacements for those, hoping they last a while. Just remember to clean off the tops periodically as dirt, dust and bird droppings can block the solar top. There are better ones out there, but for $5 each they are okay.

The caps looks nice, installed easily, screws into the post from two sides, no glue necessary and a good fit on a 4x4. My caps are on the north side of the house meaning no direct sunlight and I do not get a lot of light out of these. They are dark an hour after sundown. I have not tried replacing the batteries yet. That's been the problem with other solar products so maybe that's it. At best case, they were new with worthless batteries, worst case, it's a post cap that does fully function as a light.
