Answer:
We recommend using lump charcoal in our Kamado grills. Briquettes will not burn as hot, produce much more ash and any chemicals will be absorbed in the ceramic which can affect the flavor. No chemicals should ever be used in the grill; especially lighter fluid.

Answer:
You can use either, but for flavor purposes would highly recommend using natural lump charcoal.

Answer:
Typically, you won't need to add additional charcoal during your smoke. Filling the fire bowl up to the air holes generally ensures you have enough charcoal.

Answer:
If you have to add charcoal during a smoke, you don't have much choice but to remove the meat and heat deflector. Use a good set of grill gloves and set the cooking grid and heat deflector on something that won't be damaged by heat.

Answer:
I have not had to add extra charcoal. If you adjust the dampers correctly, you can smoke for 8-10 hours at 225 degrees without adding additional charcoal.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Grill !!! The grill was easy to assembly, but you will need a friend to lift the grill to the base. Cooking is very easy and the flavor is excellent. I would prefer is for the price, they should include at least the lava stone. So far we are turning on the grill twice a week. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The BOMB of Grill/Smokers At 227 lbs it's Heavy. The Kamado Vision has some features some of the more eggpensive models don't. In 2 months I've cooked on the Vision 40 times. Meatloaf, Wings, Pork Roasts, Beef Roasts, Pizza, Chicken, Italian Sausages you name it. It's a Grill, Smoker and High Temp Oven. After a few cooks temperature control is easy. You'll need a Plate Setter for Non-direct cooking and a Pizza stone. I gave the Quality a 4 because the Top Vent has a Plastic Tab that will break. I know Kamado will warranty it but come on guys, it's on a Cast Iron Vent. Aluminum or Steel would have been the better choice. If you are thinking about an "egg" cooker, this is it. It uses much less Charcoal that I expected. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice grill overall Had air leaks around ash pan, bought some FireBlack12 BBQ smoker gasket and sealed it. Was not able to keep a stable low temp (225-250), until I did this. Now this thing is awesome, I have done multiple pork butts at 225 and everyone raved about how good the pork tasted. Next think I want to try and smoke is a big brisket. Grill itself was packaged very well and was easy to put together, took about 20 minutes. I have seared some steaks on it then turned down the heat to finish. Very happy with the grill now. Loaded with Charcoal and when I smoked Pork butt never had to add any more charcoal and had charcoal left over. Very nice feature as it would be hard to add more charcoal during cooking process. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Choice Very decent grill, would absolutely recommend. Bought with lava stone insert which is a must for low/slow smoking. Temperature control is excellent, cannot expect instant response with draft or vent settings. Start low and build up to target temp for 12 hour brisket, one hour spent getting to temp far better than fighting a high temp. Customer service outstanding, registered grill, asked for new touch up paint as original was dried up in package, had it in two days. Still sorting out which is best lump charcoal, but this grill is very efficient, even after a 12 hour run, I can shut off vents and save some charcoal. Use this grill primarily as smoker, use large chunks of mesquite, do not bother with chips. IMHO far better to spend this $$ than those on a BGE. July 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Missing parts grrrrrrr! Are you kidding me? I just spent $700 on a grill, which I ordered online. It arrived a week later, and I opened it today only to discover over half of the parts were missing (stand, shelves, brackets, handle, grill cap, casters...pretty much everything except the ceramics, grates and cover). Called Home Depot. VERY nice associate goes over the parts list with me and informs me it will take 3 or more BUSINESS days for the warehouse to respond, so,I have a 200 lb ceramic egg sitting in my den. This is why I usually shop at Lowe's. Should have bought the Big Gree Egg!!! June 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Given as a Gift...And the Kids Love It I have owned a kamado for years...I use it to barbeque and smoke. I gave this to my Daughter and Son in Law for their birthday. They had it put together the first night and sent me photos. They had long been gas grilling people because my son in law didn't want to deal with lighting the charcoal. With the electric light they are using the devil out of it. For Father's Day they smoked some pork ribs which were executant. The only thing they need now is to do more grilling and smoking...my kamsdo smells like fresh barbeque every time you open the lid...soon theirs will too. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy! I was hesitant at first as I have never used Charcoal and spending $700 on something I wasn't sure about was a tough call. I would 100% recommend this grill to all my friends and family because 1) very easy to set up 2) very easy to use, cooking and cleaning 3) food tastes great. The grill is very heavy so you will need a second person to help you, the set up took 20-30 minutes. Just a heads up, when you are done grilling (when you close the vents at top and bottom and close the lid) the grill will remain at temp for multiple hours (which is normal from everything I read) so don't get nervous like I did. Again, this has been my first experience with charcoal as I always grilled with propane and I would not go back to propane. Yes, the product is expensive but worth every penny. The two grilling racks make is easy for meat to grill on the bottom rack and veggies on the top rack. July 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Out of the Gate Great! I had given up grilling 30 years ago. My wife got me this grill for Father's Day and it has "rekindled" my interest in grilling, smoking and cooking in general. Grill is extraordinarily efficient and produces high heat 450+ in a relatively short period of time. Beef, chicken, pork, vegetables all have been excellent. Going to try pizza soon. Great confidence builder! July 12, 2016
