Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use these to make a raised garden bed?

Asked by: Mai
There is a chance you'll be eating arsenic, copper and other carcinogens that will leach into your soil and be absorbed by your plants.

No. The stock product is rated "above ground." Ground contact product can be special ordered.

Can this wood be painted for deck use?

Asked by: Walker
Treated wood can be painted, but it is best to allow it to "dry" completely before applying paint. I have had good success with applying stain/poly combinations after the treating liquids are completely gone.

Customer Reviews

2 in. x 6 in. x 8 ft. #2 Prime Pressure-Treated Lumber is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent product I purchased this product to be used as the top piece of an outdoor post for a hose hanger. So far, I am satisfied with the quality of the product. The pieces were stained with a semi-transparent weather proof paint, and they look really nice. The only down side to these, at least in my store, is that there were several other pieces on the pile that looked damaged. I had to go through a couple of pieces before I found one that looked good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Straight boards I recently built a small shed foundation with these for the frame. Just about all of the ones I inspected in the store were straight as an arrow. However, I did have to reject quite a few because of an excessive number of knots on the edges, which is where the highest bending stress is located. Just inspect for smooth straight grain before selecting. They were also all recently treated, since I could see the moisture coming out of them when screwing into the boards. Hopefully they don't warp on me as they dry out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent wood This is a great wood for the price and the cheapest I found. Really liked the quality. Did not give it 5 stars but would rank it 4.5... I created a very nice deck 8 by 12 for under 450.00 dollars including railing...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straight and Knot free These are not perfect, but I'm using them as flower pot shelves. The boards are excellent quality because they're straight and have no knots. For the price, these were long and strong enough and an excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value and quality wood I have used these same boards several diffrent times and from diffrent Home Depots in the area and they all seem to be the same quality- very good , no cracks or splits and straight center cut wood , The pressure treating really makes these a good buy

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible This wood was my biggest mistake. It started warping after two days and when it rained it got worse. I put up about 15 ffeet of fence and I have to replace it. I rather weatherproof the wood myself. With what I paid for this I could've finished the entire side of my fence and weatherproof it using other lumber. Bad purchase. Do not recommend I prefer to give 0 stars but had to give it a 1 star

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unpredictable My store must have a really bad batch compared to these other reviews. I hate posting negative reviews and only ever do when I truly have a problem with something and even that's after investigating issues online. My wife and I are building two raised flowerbeds. One has been done for a month and the other we are working on now. I have numerous problems with this wood. Some boards are not cut to length and are not cut correctly to the width as promised. I'm talking like an inch or so difference. This made lining things up to the same height impossible - I had one section of a 3 board wall go one height and then another section of 3 boards stacked be up to .75-1 in higher. Luckily I had to cut everything and I didn't use anything at the full 8 ft, otherwise I would have soon realized my per-determined lengths would have been off in the middle of building, too. Then you have the warping, bellowing and bending of the majority of the pieces. Some is expected but most? Thing is, it's been getting worse for 4 weeks now with no end in sight. After we finished building, we even stained and protected the wood within 2 days before it ever rained so they never got wet. What I'm also seeing now is MAJOR shrinkage in a LOT of them. There were very few gaps between the 3 boards on the walls (other than whatever was slightly warped) but now the boards have shrunk like an inch in width all over, both sides. I'm scared I'm going to have to replace most of everything by the end of the summer after all this work. I already think I need to replace a part of it now. We carefully selected our boards when shopping and got everything that looked flat and good to the best of our eyes. We had to reject a lot of boards to even get "good" ones as many were damaged. Hardly two pieces were ever alike. I assume these boards should each be at least CLOSE to identical to each other. I'm shocked at how many problems we are having with this wood. Again, perhaps it was just my store's inventory? But regardless, I won't ever use it to do another project again. If I used this to build a deck instead of a large raised flowerbed, I would have been really angry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product My family used the 2x6 for a deck we built. The wood was soft and made the drilling the deck screws easy.
