Answer:
Directly under the fixture is where the bulb is located and would be a "dead spot" for detecting the motion. The angle downward is dependent on the height where it is located as its designed to try and maximize the distance and spread of the detection zone.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Almost never works Purchased two of these recently and one works about 60% of the time and the other about 20% of the time. I can sometimes get them to work by jumping up and down and waving my arms so the extra physical exercise is a nice side benefit. The first one I purchased several years ago works 100% of the time so it is odd that the two recently purchased are faulty...maybe they changed factories. July 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not satisfied This will be the third one very time the bulb blows it quit working April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised Needs to adapted to fit a clip on lamp shade. The naked bulb dos not look good. August 4, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Detects Motion ONLY up to 3 CENTIMETERS (1 INCH)! RATING SHOULD BE ZERO! TESTED IT: NO MOTION DETECTED FURTHER THAN 1 INCH. THAT'LL TEACH ME TO READ REVIEWS FIRST! June 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't work right I got this to light up my garage when entering from the outside door. The first time I positioned it I got no response at all so I repositioned and managed to get it to come on. I exited the garage and waited for 12 minutes before I came in again and the light was still on. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in again and tried to get it come on but this time I had to wave my hand in front of it before it responded. One of the deal breakers for me even if it worked right was the length of time it stayed on- 10 minutes in my estimation is far too long. It is obviously not going to be reliable so back it goes. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of Money Had this item for one month and it stopped working completely. Emailed product customer service and said they would replace it, once I paid to ship the broken item to them (NO WAY!). While it did work, it was a good purchase...but not worth $20 for a month of use. Do not buy this! February 25, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Quits working after 1 year Overall the product does what its supposed to do. The sensor picks up movement accurately and is a great feature for basements, laundry rooms, anywhere you want quick light as you approach. Unfortunately the lifespan of the product is poor. I've bought two of these and each one has only lasted a year. The company has a 5 year warranty but the manufacturer requires that you ship it back to them at your expense. I'll ride it out with the ones I currently have but wouldn't buy it again. August 27, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth you money Installed in garage. Used with a CFL. Worked well for about first 6 months after purchase. Became unreliable and stopped working altogether 5 months later. October 12, 2014
