Answer:
Mine was installed pretty much horizontal. I would think it would work better horizontal as the air flow (lint that bypasses any filters) would not be working against gravity. If installed vertically then the owner would have to check it more frequently to make sure any accumulated lint does not fall back into the dryer and creating a potential fire hazard.

AgentLint,
This periscope venting is fixed. It has to be installed up and down and would not work at an angle. Thank you for viewing this accessory.

This one won't do it. You could have a center piece fabricated that would add the length you're looking for.

0-18 in. Dryer Periscope is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well The installation wasn't too easy, because you need to push the dryer into place and connect one end at the same time. That is not a fault of the product, but just know that going in. Also, if your exhaust vent to the outside if very close to the corner of a wall, the corner of the vent will hit the wall when you use the vent at an angle. Make sure to use the crimp side for the connection to the outside vent, and the smooth side for the exhaust vent from the dryer. It will not work otherwise, and will leak exhaust. It saved me a bunch of space, a traditional aluminum flex tube was around 6.5" and this was about 4.5". I needed the vent to be under 5.5", so I was very pleased with how the installation ended up. A tin snip is required to trim the vent to size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't buy you any space no matter how you trim it. The dryer could go back no further than it was with the round flexible hose. While the periscope itself is thinner the metal that sticks out to connect it to the dryer and wall and still be able to clamp it in place cancels out anything you saved with the narrower tube. Even after we trimmed it down with snips. Very disappointing. Ended up going back to the flexible style because it is easier to pull out the dryer for cleaning with it. Couldn't return it because we cut it. Out the money. Would not recommend if you are getting it for space saving only. Might be good for other reasons in some applications different from ours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Takes a little extra work, but will get the job done My distance between dryer vent and wall vent was 8 inches so I was able to use this product to get just the right length. Had to use tin snips to trim excess material to get it to fit just right. Then had to wrap most of the exterior with foil tape to block all the air leaks. If you know of all these things ahead of time and prepare to have to put in a little bit extra work, it really does a fine job. The only concern I have is that the periscope really gets hot from the air coming out of the dryer. So I'd keep a close eye on what is around the product to make sure nothing can catch fire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it's made for. I live in an apartment. The washroom is very limited on space. This was needed so that my drier wouldn't stick out and I had the clearance to shut the door. I'm a 33 year old single female and had noooooooooo problem installing and cutting this for the exact fit. I used the aluminum tape to finnish and my dust has decreased. :D I'm sure I did look funny hanging upside down over the drier. :P I only wish it was sold in the stores. I'm sure more people would buy-need them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from periscope review Recommended - but w/ caveat that it is not that easy to install in a small space (the very situation which prompted the purchase. Saved about 1 1/2 inches of space; had hoped for more. But, in such a small laundry room, every bit helps. Tin material seemed very flimsy, consequently I am worried about how long this might hold up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Great Works just as described. Wish they had a small to intermediate size so you wouldn't have to cut to fit. Only reason this did not get a 5 star rating all around. I had a 9 in. height difference so had to cut a whole lot off both pieces to make it fit. That is the ONLY issue though. Clamps were great and easy to use and work well. Be sure to have tape for the seam and do the taping before you mount the assembly; pretty tight fit after.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheaply made This product is very cheaply made and in fact fell apart while trying to install. I finally gave up and threw it in trash. It will probably work for most people...but be very careful in handling as it will collapse into itself if you put too much pressure on it when installing. Also you will need to buy a roll of very good aluminum duct tape to seal the whole thing up so air does not leak out of it when in use. Difficult to line up and install when pushing dryer into position....you have to be a contortionist to accomplish !
Date published: 2015-04-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is a must if you need to get your dryer closer to the wall. It came with easy to follow instructions about how to install and trim the excess metal. The only issue, and there is nothing to be done about it, is that the low profile nature of the installation makes it a tight fit to get your hands behind the dryer to tighten the straps. It's really a minor issue with the connection mechanism.
