Customer Questions & Answers

Will these work to install a metal handrail on stucco ?

Asked by: jimmy
I used these to secure 2" Thick x 12" Wide x 12' Long shelf. I used 4 brackets given the length & used these since it was a hollow wall (sheet rock). They are heavy duty and hold very tight. They remain firm over time. I assume they work similarly on stucco since they are made for both indoor and outdoor. They key is having a hallow wall. They cannot be installed if next to beam since the wood would obstruct the anchor from expanding properly.

How long is this anchor after it is screwed down or activated to hold in hollow wall?

I need an anchor for a bypass door wall... The anchor can't be longer than 1.5 inches after it is activated or screwed down to hold in the drywall. Screw length doesn't matter because I can always cut that off.
Asked by: Bill
The screw length is 3 1/2". The final length will be 3 1/2" minus thickness of what it's holding down. If your bracket (whatever it is you are holding down) is 1/4" thick (as example), then once you tighten down it will be 3 1/4". The anchor itself shortens, pressing against sheet rock as you tighten screw but the screw length remains same.

I used these anchors for a bathroom cabinet where I didn't have studs in the location I wanted the cabinet in. Fasteners were installed into 1/2" drywall.

These work very well but wish the manufacturer inspected before packaging. I bought 8 total. 1 out of the 8 were the wrong size screw. Too thick. It would not catch then after swapping I noticed it was different than the one's that were working. I actually took the empty package along with the wrong screw to Home Depot and they were kind enough to swap screws from another set. They set the defective one aside to manage the return for me. Very nice of them to help. The other option would have been for me to buy a similar screw. Home Depot does not carry exact lengths (1/2" shorter) but I guess that would have worked too. I'm just glad they helped provide write screw for me to complete the job. Looks like I wasn't the only customer with this issue. Winglts needs better quality control.

Wish I could take the manufacturer to small claims court. First off, although you can't tell by looking at the picture, the hole where the screw goes is OFF-CENTER from the larger 3/4" hole you must drill to get the legs through. It becomes guesswork to determine exactly where the bolt will end up, and good luck trying to place them with any precision. Second, although I was assured WingIts worked with the grab bar I bought, the adhesive drill pattern provided in the package in no way matches the holes in it. Third, although I scrupulously tried to follow the less-than-clear instruction, the first WingIt I attempted to install would NOT "push" through the 3/4" hole, and in fact, the instructions say the flared end of the legs first have to stop flush with the surface of the dry wall before you push them through. Eventually, I resorted to pounding the thing with a mallet - which destroyed a couple of inches diameter hole in the drywall, making it impossible to mount ANY anchor, and now I have to relocate the grab bar as well as patch and repaint the the wall. This is one of the worst designed products I've ever encountered, and I wish I'd never heard of it. Don't understand how it is the people giving it 4 stars avoided some or all of these problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Anchors for Heavy Duty Install You drill big holes, but I was able to make every single one work. I can't say the same for every other kind of anchor known to man. I used this to install roles for twin track shelves with rails. I didn't bother with the bar across the top for suspending the rails as this was strong enough when I hit all the holes in sheet rock. Good product! Finally something useful.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Came with the wrong size screw This product probably would have been good if it was packaged with the correct size screw. I was halfway through the install, but I couldn't get the screw to take hold. So I tried the screw in an extra wingit and found that all the screws they sent were too small. So I had to go back to the hardware store to pickup a 3" #10-32 screw. Talk about a waste of time.
