Answer:
Good question, Ryan. We do not recommend using Zinsser Shellac Spray Paint on a cutting board. This product is not yet approved for food preparation surfaces. Instead, for a cutting board or wood surfaces in direct contact with food, use the 1-pt. Clear Butcher Block Oil. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Watco-1-pt-Clear-Butcher-Block-Oil-Case-of-4-241758/205113777

Answer:
If you art going to use the cutting boards to cut food then no don't use it on them. You should use an oil on them like walnut oil or Danish oil. Do not use any type of cooking oil which that will allow bacteria to grow. If you are not going to use them for cutting then this will work fine.

So it is non-toxic, but as far a edible I wouldn't ingest it with food or on food. Anything that needs clean-up with alcohol or ammonia I wouldn't put on the menu. Read Less

12 oz. Clear Shellac Spray (Case of 6) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the Job Spraying shellac is a lot easier than spraying paint - no need to shake the can, there is no agitator inside. The finish comes out nice and even without the "orange peel" effect you sometimes get when using spray paint. 2 Notes: after speaking to the folks at Zinser I learned that the spray shellac is "de-waxed" so that this is the right base layer if you are going to put anything on top of the shellac. Also, the shellac on its own is a glossy finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For a better finish, SHELLAC IT!!! Followed some Youtube advice and had to use this product (Silicone contamination of the surface) to enable the stain to adhere evenly to the top of a a nightstand. Sprayed two coats of shellac, sanded with 0000 steel wool in between then stained. The finish came out better than the rest of the other pieces of the bedroohm set! I wish I had known this before, I would have shellacked the entire set before staining!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Excellent product. Used this product for final finish on wood or to seal difficult to stain wood species such as pine or poplar prior to staining or painting for small projects. Spray can is convenient but is not economical for large projects (interior wood trim around doors and windows as an example). Would recommend using liquid product brushed on which is sold in one gallon containers for larger projects.

I only wish that Zinsser Seal Coat was still on the shelf. Seal Coat is a dewaxed 2 pound cut of shellac that is unbleached. Seal Coat is the best sealer you can buy.....perhaps the stores can inform the public on its good attributes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Also great for.... In addition to is intended use, I use it on cracked or crumbling plaster before applying a little mud and tape. I also apply a quick coat or two over a ceiling stain so there will be very little bleed-though = its faster than Zinzer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff I love shellac it's not good for everything but for sealing spot repairs it works great. Don't use it around water, super humid conditions or on maple/light colored wood. Other than that it'smy first choice
