Disappointed
I ordered the mover through Home Depot only to have the mover delivered with a defective wheel. As in the picture, the rear wheel kept falling off when trying to use the mover. I would not recommend this mower.

    I used it all summer.
For the most hart, I am happy with it. The only thing I don't like is the delay between operating the control and it taking affect. There is almost a 2 second delay between pushing the start button, and the mower, or the self propell starting.

Can be a pain to get connections right so it starts or stays running
When I got it the first thing I noticed was a nice big cut in the rubber on the top handle. Not a big deal, just annoying for a new purchase. But I could not get the lawnmower to stay on for more than about 10 seconds. This seems to be a common problem but a lot of the search results were talking about pieces that were not on this model, tightening this or that, nothing worked. It would start and then stop with or without me moving it. I was using the mulching plug. Turns out that the bar that holds the mulching plug in has to be touching one of two metal contacts but it would not stay. I ended up breaking a few sticks and shoving them around the metal bar and to keep it against one of the contacts and put duct tape on that to keep it in place. I've used it for a couple of months now with no issues except that one of the locks that keep the handle extended became unlocked in the middle of mowing so the engine cut off and it took me a couple of minutes to realize what it was. But the thing is so much lighter than my old gas mower and easier to get running. I have a smaller yard so if I keep the grass cut I have been able to do it three times on one charge. I read you don't want to keep these batteries fully charged for long periods of time, so it bothers my little bit of OCD that I can't just recharge it after every use, so I just need to know that when I am going to mow the lawn and charge it the day before. But the indicator on the battery, assuming it is accurate, makes this easy to see if I need to charge it. Hope this helps someone.

Excellent value, but be sure to check the brackets
I've used this mower about 10 times, and so far I'm happy with its performance. I have only about 2,500 square feet of grass, which I'm able to cut twice using the self-propelled feature on a single charge of the 6Ah battery. The height adjustment couldn't be simpler and the fact that the handle easily folds allowing the mower to be compactly stored standing on end is a big plus. Charging the battery is a bit slow with the included charger, but that's to be expected with this type of charger. My only complaint is the design of the brackets that fasten the handle to the mower deck. These brackets (one on each side of the deck) are factory installed using "wood screws" through the metal bracket and into the plastic deck. The screws have Torx heads and can only be tightened with a special Torx screwdriver. After less than 10 uses of the mower, two of the three screws holding one of the brackets loosened and fell out (see photo). The remaining screw had loosened to the point that the handle became unstable. To me, this is a major design flaw in a part of the mower that's subject to the most stress. Instead of using these "wood screws", a set of threaded inserts should have been molded into the deck so that machine screws and locking washers could be used to securely fasten the brackets. I've ordered a set of replacement screws, and since these screws were listed as the most popular replacement parts for this mower, it must be a common problem. While I recommend this mower as excellent value for the money, I also recommend that you have the proper size Torx screwdriver on hand to periodically check and tighten these screws.

Electric Mower, wow, crazy but works fantasticly!!
I was going to get the 20" Ryobi non-self propelled option but chose this one instead. Getting to old to push through thick grass. This model worked fantastically, even better than I thought. Cut the yard with one charge and not even fully charged. JUST AWESOME!!!

Good power and battery life but poor hardware.
I would recommend this product because it has great battery life and power. The problem is that the push handle connection to the mower is poorly designed. The screws go into a plastic housing that regularly come loose and can fall out as the mower is used. Seems like a design oversight to use a plastic housing like this. You need to tighten the screws every time you use it.

                Lots of power
I didn’t expect a battery powered mower to have this much power. I’ve had it for over a year and it works great.

                  Faulty batteries galore
Out of 3 Ryobi products I have purchased, three had faulty battery’s. 3 mowers, one chain saw. They all use the same 40v. At this point I think it is standard.

                    Won't start. Missing sensor?
This is brand new. I've set everything up made sure the handles were all the way up pins locked in place and side discharge was on correctly key and battery are in place when I follow the instructions to turn on only light goes on. I don't know if there's a missing sensor for the bag and side discharge. I don't know if there's supposed be a magnet sensor there. Please help it's my first lawn mower and I want to love this mower. thanks on advanced!

Metal screws into plastic frame = cheap product that is broken after 6 uses.
DO NOT BUY! This product is made extremely cheaply and poorly designed. I don't know what engineers think putting metal male threaded screw into a female threaded plastic frame was a good idea. It doesn't take a genius to know that the screws will completely strip the plastic and pull themselves out with minimum use. I used my mower 6 times and 5 of the 6 screws have either completely come out or mostly come out of the frame. Since the female threads are stripped I can't fix the frame rendering my mower USELESS. Also, my wires have been exposed and stripped because of the broken frame. Side note, an empty mower bag constantly bounces out of its holder which triggers the mower to shut itself off. This is extremely frustrating and disappointing for a product that is priced so high. The customer service at Ryobi is PATHETIC, the "warranty" covers nothing, and there is no way this is normal wear and tear when it's been used 6 times. I've never had a mower completely fall apart before. I am also angry because I have invested into extra batteries and other Ryobi lawn care equipment so I will mostly likely be left to buy another cheap mower from them. DO NOT BUY! SAVE YOUR MONEY! I know Kobalt has better quality mowers.

Cuts well, but bag is crap.
I really like how this mower cuts the lawn, super light weight and is easy to use. However, I’ve only mowed the lawn 2 times, yep, 2 times- and the grass catcher bag is already tearing at the back seam. Only reason why I haven’t rated this 5 stars. Just beware that the grass catcher bag isn’t very good quality, you might be better off just mowing the mulch plug or without the bag.

This Is one RYOBI powerhouse !! I bought a earlier 16 in model non-self-propelled 10 years ago and I love not having gas sitting around, so going to this Big 20 in self-propelled was just the next step, This one is so well built, sturdy, big wheels, bagger, you can see the quality here and it comes with a powerful 6AH 40 volt battery & charger, lots of power and run time, headlights, adjustable handle, extra battery port, this one has it all !!

                            Ryobi for the Win
I purchased the mower two weeks ago but due to constant rain, I just today got to mow the jungle in my backyard. This lawnmower cut through the thick, tall (about 2-3 inches past my ankle) grass without any problems at all. With easy push button start, low noise, and no vibration like a gas powered mower gives, this machine made it a pleasure to cut grass. I haven’t used the grass catcher yet but letting it mulch as I cut today, it worked perfectly. And then you factor in that it’s just so pretty? We’ll, I couldn’t ask for a better lawnmower than this.

                              Lawn boss: Game changer
Switched from gas to the electric month ago - what a difference it has made! Runs smoother, quieter and though its a push mower, its extremely comfortable to push even uphill. It has gas-like power thanks to the 40V 6.0Ah battery, and keeps going. We have a sloping yard, and almost get 2.5 hrs of runtime on a single charge. Chomps down tall 6in grass like a pro. Three different interlocks on the motor start is a cool feature - the start key and the bag/mulch plug and the handle extension have to all be enabled for the motor to start. Great tool to have, definitely recommend if you have upto 1/2 acre lot. Way to go Team RYOBI for an amazing product.

WOW - Ryobi does a great job on my St. Augustine (and $200 less than EGO)
I can not tell you how long I spent going over reviews of battery-powered mowers. I had used Toro Personal Pace mowers for years and now that it was time to replace it, I wanted to finally make the jump to battery powered. I was nervous though given my tough, thick, fast-growing St. Augustine grass...could a battery mower handle it? Could it do it on one charge. There are a huge number of professional EGO video reviews online and I will admit that I finally bought one....it was a bit more money than I wanted to pay for a mower ($549). It has been ok, maybe if anything I notice a huge number of taunting straggler grass blades after each mow. These are the ones that I notice swaying in the breeze after I clean up and put the mower away.....arrrgghh! A friend recently gave me an opportunity to try a Ryobi mower...they were curious how I would compare it with the EGO. The Ryobi also had a 6amp battery, was self-propelled, and had the same mulching and bagging options. One difference was that it was a single blade vs. a double blade setup on the EGO (not sure of the benefit of that yet considering the taunting grass). I've used the mower twice now and here's my thoughts: - I have a decent size lawn that takes about 45 minutes to mow. The Ryobi battery did the full job with the battery showing 2 bars remaining. Most of the mow was with the self-propel engaged. - The Ryobi seemed to be more maneuverable around trees, bushes and obstacles...with the EGO, I push, pull, and lift more...almost as if I'm banging it around. I wonder how good that will be long term for all of the components. - Going over really thick grass, the Ryobi throttles up with more power....impressive that it keeps going. - With the EGO, I sometimes sense that it is gliding above the grass...maybe this is what gives me the taunting blades. The Ryobi, while not heavier, seems to have a better footing. - Controls, positioning, comfort...all were just fine for the Ryobi. Maybe even slightly a bit better with engaging the self-propel over the EGO (my hands sometimes get tired with the EGO self-propel control). - When it comes to folding the unit up, I'd give the EGO the slight edge, slightly easier to do. - Lights are of now value to me. - Post-mow cleaning seemed to be the same for both units. I am more attentive to cleanup on the battery units vs the gas powered ones. I post this for the person who is like me and is just going crazy with reviews. You can be confident going with the Ryobi and saving about $200 compared to the EGO (which you can use to buy some compatible tools). For those who have St. Augustine grass and are nervous about battery mowers...know that this unit can do the job, Of course I'd avoid cutting wet grass if possible but I actually did one of my mowings after the lawn was watered. It got through the job...just a little extra on the cleanup side. Good luck and enjoy the quieter, more convenient experience of battery power.

We love it! Tackles tough jobs and the charge lasts long enough to mow both front & back yards (about 2,000 sq ft) without any problems. Self-propelled action helped a LOT with our slightly hilly back yard. Definitely worth the upgrade. Note: it came with an offer in the box for a free upgraded battery if you register your product (which was a pretty lengthy/detailed process). I did so, but the battery never came. It said 4-6 weeks. Hoping it’s just running late. May have to contact Ryobi.

                                  Won't go back to gas
Although it's a plastic based machine it seems durable enough for residential use. It comes fully assembled and once the battery is charged it's ready to go. I was a little skeptical about large battery powered machines, hand tools are one thing this I wasn't sure. ( I could always return it ) BIG surprise! . My community lawn service quit and left me with 12" grass in my front and back yard. OK this will be a test! I set the wheels on the highest setting and started to mow. This is a beast, with a foot of grass and walking at a normal cutting pace the mower breezed through the grass without once bogging down, in fact when the mower encountered a tougher area the motor speed increased to compensate. I have about 3500sq ft of grass and used half the battery power. The LED light in the front is a nice touch as I will have to cut near dark sometimes. I was so impressed with this 40V system I went back the next day and bought the Blower, weed eater and a pole saw.

                                    Easy to Use
I've cut my lawn with this mower 4 times now and it's been a breeze. I contemplated getting the push mower (I'm a petite person), but I'm so glad I got the self-propelled. The mower itself is a lot lighter than your traditional gas mower (this is plastic), so it would be easy enough to use without self-propelled if you didn't want to splurge. I have a fairly small lot and can get through a full mow in half a battery. My one concern is how long this mower will hold up long term. After my 3rd use, I noticed the grip on the handlebar is ripping- not ideal for the price I paid and LIGHT use (picture provided). I'd give 5 stars, but based on the product breakdown I'm already seeing I've knocked it down to 4 stars.

Incredible mower, self propelled, effortless mowin
Amazing lawn mower. I was considering the 18V model but am so glad that we went with this 40V one. The battery pack included is more than enough battery to mow my entire lawn 4 times or more (goes down 1-2 bars per mow). The one touch height adjustment is something that every mower should adopt! The self propelled feature is something that I never thought I would use much or care for, but now I'm sold - it is absolutely incredible! At max speed it mows faster than I can walk. On the lowest speed setting, I am mowing my lawn nearly twice as fast as I was with a standard push mower. I can push and steer this mower one handed. It is incredible - don't let anyone tell you it's a useless feature! 10/10 mower, I recommend this to anyone with a lawn!

                                      Great for one year
I really enjoyed this mower for the first year, but now year two has come. It stops every 5 minutes. It’s almost unusable at this point. It seems like a glitch in the safety features, but regardless it’s a shame because I really liked it. And now I have all the batteries and I’m stuck. At first it was the plug, but now it seems to just not work at all.

                                        Nice mower
I bought this mower just to mow the small grass area in my backyard. I have to say, I really love this mower. It's so light and easy to push there is no need for the self propelled version unless you have a large area with some inclines. It's been over a year owning this and it works great. I am able to cut my back yard 4 times before needing to charge the battery. That is amazing. Now for my front yard which is a lot larger, I use a Honda HRX217 which is a beast. If Ryobi was to send me their new 40v crosscut I would love to compare it to the Honda! As for this mower, well worth the money.

The worst lawnmower ive ever owned!!!
Lets start off with the uneven cut it has. It looks like i was drunk when i finished cutting the yard. Next lets talk about how cheaply made the Lawnmower is. After 6 months of use the handles bars have broken in multiple ways. Everytime i cut i wonder whats gonna break next on this piece of crap. And then we have the battery life which is when its cool outside i can cut my whole front yard. When hot outside it last about 2/3 of my front yard. Dont even think it will last to cut the back. On top of that it takes the battery a half day to fully charge and 30mins to use that charge. I hate this Lawnmower with a passion. I wouldn't give it to my enemy for Christmas

Makes the large hill of grass on my lawn a breeze! I can do both front and back grass on one fully charged battery!
