Awesome mower!
Dont listen to these bad reviews. I had my mind set on this mower and im so glad i bought it! It was same price or cheaper than a competing gas mower, and came with everything you need. I havent mowed my grass all season yet until today, in mid april, and i had some spots that were at least 8-10” in length. This mower cut through those patches like nothing, it has some sort of power adjustment when it detects thicker areas i believe cause you can hear it adjust and then go back when at normal level. I have a 10,000 sq ft lot and i got the whole thing done with 2 bars left to spare on the battery as well. And that was with it being the first mow of the season and very thick. The only thing i would reccomend, is sharpening the blade before you cut. I took a look underneath after the mow to see if grass stuck (it didnt) and i noticed the blade wasnt as sharp as could be. Otherwise mower is 10/10

Lawn bag tearing after one use?!
After one use I already have a hole in the bottom of the bag. Am I missing something RYOBI? It doesn't make sense that the bag would be dragging on the ground like that. Is this user error? I thought for sure that there would be a way to attach this to the back to keep it from dragging on the ground. It became extra frustrating any time I backed up and the bag would pop off.

Quality control is poor. A wheel was never assembled correctly and came off in 2 minutes of use
This product is too expensive to come from the factory without it being assembled correctly! One of the rear wheel assemblies was never bolted to the axle and literally came off within 2 minutes of use and the deck/blade, etc, could have slammed into land. Even before that occurred, I felt the product was overpriced for what it was when compared to a more rugged stamped product with metal drivetrain components. The blade is steel but the plastic coupling underneath doesn't appear to be rugged enough to handle years of use, but I could be wrong. It's going to be a pain to pack back up but I'll take it as an omen.

        Pretty good!
Short review - It’s a good value and I recommend this mower. Long review- I had bought a different brand of battery powered mower before this one. It was white and blue. It had a bad battery so it got returned and I decided to spend a little more money on the comparable Ryobi mower. The Ryobi was a littler heavier which to me meant there was more metal which I think is a good thing but still very light compared to a traditional gas mower. Also it’s light enough that I don’t think it’s worth the extra money for a self propelled mower unless you have a bad back or an inclined yard. I got it home and immediately plugged in the battery to start charging since I was wanting to mow that day. It’s very easy to assemble, the hardest part is putting the grass catcher on the metal frame and it only took a couple minutes for that. I checked on the battery and it had 2 out of 4 bars lit up. I waited an hour and it never got to the third bar but I was running out of time. I would at least try to get my front yard done. But when thinking about it I would only invest in a rapid charger if you have a large yard or another power tool that you want to use the same battery with. I was able to mow my whole front and backyard and still had the same two bars. The power was good and goes up when it’s going through thicker/taller grass and back down when it’s not needed. It may not be as powerful as some gas powered mowers but I don’t think it will have a problem with the average yard. It’s very quiet for a mower. Sounds like a loud fan. The grass catcher worked well and is easy to take on and off. The one thing I don’t like is that the cutting levels are too high. I have it on the lowest and while it’s where I would normally like it, I know some people like to cut lower. I like that it folds to store upright and I LOVE that I don’t have to worry about gas or oil anymore. No it’s not the best mower out there but I think for the average person/yard it’s great!

        Our First Electric Mower
We are an elderly couple needing to buy a new mower. We tried 2 years of lawn service (no help to us - didn't show up, burnt lawn, etc.) When looking to buy - ease of us was most important to us. The thought of no more trekking to get gas, oil - no more "winterizing" the mower in the fall made us look into an electric mower. We are GLAD we did. This mower has serious rear wheel self-propel. A small learning curve when turning the mower to go down another row. Took a few rows, but hubby and I got the hang of it quickly. Saves our back not having to push so hard. You can see pics below on the job it does cutting the lawn for the first time this season. All in all - decent ! As for Battery charge - you can see the size of our front lawn - we had 2 bars left after cutting front, sidewalk area, and both sides. Our back yard is quite a bit bigger and we are thinking it may take 2 charges to mow it. For us - not a deal breaker, half one day/half the next better for us. For a younger person ? Maybe 2 batteries ? We have decided this is a wonderful mower, easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store.

            Battery is a joke
Unbelievable. I received this mower as a gift from by boss, who is worried about climate change. Aren't we all? Anyway, It looked great and I was excited to use it. I fully charged the battery. Went out to mow the lawn. I didn't even get to the front yard before the battery completely died in the middle of my backyard, which isn't huge. With the gas mower, I was able to do my back and front yards with about 1/8 of the gas tank left. I can't believe this, Ryobi tools have always been my goto brand. And the batteries are way expensive. I can't, with good conscious, recommend this product with a battery that last 15 minutes from a full charge. Sorry Ryobi Disappointed1

              Super Disappointed
First off, I am a huge ryobi fan. I have 20 different of their tools and was super excited to add a lawnmower to my collection. I purchased this during the fall season to try and pick up the last remaining leaves on my lawn. I said it to its highest level so it would just pick up the leaves I may be a little bit of the lawn but wasn’t super worried about that. I loved it for half my yard, but then it stopped working. I wasn’t sure what it happened so I started checking all the different parts, but it turned out the battery was already dead. I feel like on its highest level it’s not cutting much and the battery should’ve lasted a lot longer. After charging the battery I tried again and it seemed like the blades didn’t turn fast enough. I return this to Home Depot likely for a full refund. I really wanted to love the snow more because of its compact size and ability fold up. Especially the noise difference seven electric versus my old gas more. Very disappointed.

Ryobi has made an outstanding lawn mower & I am so happy to own one. I am really pleased with the mower, how it cuts, and the options available (mulching or cutting + bagging). It's easy to use, more than enough power and light weight to push. Thank you Ryobi

Unable to get from point A to point B with this battery!
I purchased my new lawnmower on Nov. 23rd, 2020. I notice the battery was just over half full so, I connected it up so it would charge to full. Today, Nov. 28th, I went outside to cut my grass for the first time with my new mower. I've never been so excited about using a new lawnmower before lol. As I cut my front lawn, first, I notice I really enjoy the features with this mower. About 2/3 into cutting the front yard, my new lawnmower just stopped working. After investigating what maybe the reason (s), it was to my surprise to learn my full battery was empty/dead! Now, the reason I was so surprised was because my front year is only a typical size yard, being only 70.13 feet by 34.35 feet. I was not only surprised at how long this battery last, but I was a little embarrassed too. I am truly surprised that Ryobi would sell a product for 399.00 plus tax, that can't even cut my front lawn while using a full battery. I wish I never bought this item, now. I have so many Ryobi products, or which I am very satisfied with, but this is a first item I regret purchasing. So, I am writing this today to say, "Buyer Beware!"

Hello, Jr - We are very sorry to read about your unsatisfactory experience with the mower's run time! Run time will vary depending on different variables, such as outdoor conditions. However, the mower can provide a run time of up to 42 minutes with the included battery fully charged. And to help get the most run time, we recommend mowing in dry conditions and maintaining a regularly cut lawn. If you would, please be looking for an email from us at reviews@ryobitools.com. We want to discuss your experience further, so we can try and turn it into a positive one. RYOBIOutdoorTools

                  Excellent little mower
Most people know me as a Pro that can fix anything, but as I'm getting on in years, I'm not as 'robust' as I used to be, and I've recently given away all my gas tools: My All-Wheel-Drive mower, several trimmer/edgers, chain saws, Chipper/Shreader/Lawn Vac, etc... I've gone all-in on Battery Power Tools now, and the best price to performance, reliablility, and overall value I've found is the Ryobi line up. I bought this 6-Amp-Hour Battery Mower before Labor Day at a sale price of only $259 (it's $299 today). On my 1/3 acre lot, I can mow my front lawn completely on 2 bars of battery, with 2 bars left for the smaller back yard. So light, at 55 Lbs, and no fuel, oil, air filters, or pull cords; Just insert battery, extend handle, press button, pull lever, and mow! I never have to actually clean it because the under-deck is very slick plastic, and nothiung sticks to it. I also bought the optional rear side-discharge chute, for when I let my grass/weeds get too tall. That works great, too. I'm a tool guy, so I wanted to make sure I had an extra 6 Amp-Hour battery. Several stores showed them in stock, but they were not actually there. I did the math: Extra 6 AH Battery was $189, extra 'cheap' charger was $70, so the price for extra battery and charger was $259 - the SAME as the mower with EVERYTHING. It was a no-brainer that I spend that $259 on another mower, complete with 6 AH Battery and charger! So now I have 100% spare everything. Call me lucky, for jumping in at the sale price, but even at $299, this mower is a great value. I've also got a LOT of the One-Plus 18-volt tools, which I also love. But I'll save that for another review. Bottom line: If your yard is under 1/2 acre, you can probably get by with this mower and a single battery. Over that, and you'll want another 6 AH (or even 7.5 AH) battery. These batteries are a bit pricey, but figure the cost of 5 years of air filters, fuel, oil, and the hassle of 'will it even start today?' being gone, and I think its a win-win. They have another (more expensive) model that is self-propelled, but I can't justify that because it's heavier and more costly, while this one is so easy to push that you don't need any self-propel. Just keep it simple and spend that extra money on a battery and side-discharge chute instead. Once again: I am soooo glad that I went with battery power, and very happy that I chose Ryobi.

                    Worthless
Notice how all the other reviews were written after the first use. Sure, you press a button and it’s nice and quiet, but that’s where the positives stop. First of all, I’ve had it a month, used it maybe six times, and the thing already won’t start anymore. It takes 4 hours to charge a battery, and they’re dead in 15-20 minutes of light cutting. Do not buy the additional battery, I can only get 10-15 minutes out of that one. Ryobi customer service says this is normal. If your grass is thin, you’ll get an ok cut with a lot of missed spots. If your lawn looks even remotely decent? Look at the picture. I had to lower the deck by single notches, and the piece of crap was still locking up like that was just too much grass to cut. On top of all that, the blade is somehow already bent, and I know I haven’t hit any big branches with it, just your normal “oh I didn’t see that little thing in the grass” sticks. There is absolutely no way people are mowing 1/2 an acre with one battery. I’m 30, landscape for a living, and even hoofing it can barely get a measured quarter acre done on a single charge. If you’re looking for something you can throw in the back of your car and mow the lawn in front of your moms townhouse, this may work. But if you have any sort of actual mowing to do, don’t waste your money on this. Again, check the picture i posted. Lowering the deck one notch on this grass completely stopped it up

                      Excellent investment
I’ve had this mower for 9 months and love it. This mower has quite a punch for being battery operated. I have used and abused mine and it keeps on trucking along. If your looking for a mower that will pickup every blade of grass, leaf or pine cone this ISNT the mower you want, get a gas powered one. With that aside it does great at cutting grass and is okay at cutting wild flower and vine overgrowth. I’ve added before and after photos of the overgrowth I cut every few months to show how much of a punch this mower has.

                        LOVE this mower-A+
just gave up the old gas powered lawn mower and went with this Ryobi- electric mower~ love it. Why? Extremely lightweight- and it folds up and takes up little space in the shed. Quiet- no fumes and easy to push/plus it has the self propelled feature! Nice. If you have an issue when you first use- shutting off- simple quick fix- tighten 2 small bolts- (picture below0 here's a youtube video.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD09Y7pgXpU&t=9s great simple fix...and now runs top! And btw- Home Depot is so great place to shop - happy mowing!!!

After first time use - my own take
I am writing this after only using the mower one time and just purchased yesterday. I have used a toro 21" super recycler (gas) for the past 18 years, so this is my comparison. The mower is extremely light weight, so much I didn't even bother using the self-propel feature except just giving it a try. I used it as a mulcher and it did an okay job but no comparison to the toro. It stopped running a few times on me but I found out that was because one of the clamps on the handle was not turned down all of the way. I tried the bagging as well and it did okay but as stated previously no comparison to my toro. I imagine it will take getting use to but I trying to replace all of my gas yard tools with battery operated ones. I have the next 90 days to give it a try or return it to Home Depot. I will try to remember to update my review after a month or so.

                            Battery is worthless
First time using this item it ran for about 40 min then second time 35. After a month and a half I can barely cut a quarter of my grass without it dying. My neighbors will laugh that I bought Ryobi and I guess they were right it kept dying on me then wait 4 HOURS just for me to do half my yard. I have a SMALL yard and this lawnmower is the worst. I regret buying battery I’ll go back to gas I only bought this because my last lawn mower of 7 years broke. This Ryobi lasted 2 month... Never again

                              Not impressed
The battery life is FAR too short to cut any thing but the smallest patch of grass. The mower is easy to maneuver because its lightweight, but so much so that it also bounces around a lot with any imperfections in the surface of the lawn. But the real disapointment is in the build quality, three uses in and the safety switches in the extendable handle started to trip and shut it down and by six uses the material on the handle had worn out and split. I wanted to get a mower that was better for the environment but this is pure garbage and will need to be replaced in less than a year.

This lawn mower was great. Worker out pretty well for the size of our lawn considering in a single charge. Only problem was that, out of the box the lawn mower had missing screws and brackets where the wheels are held from. My Home Depot store is not close so I decided to keep it because I didn’t want to make the trip to take it back.

gets a good solid hour of mowing, lightweight, needs tinted top, battery gets hot in sun
this is used on a 150 foot by 50 foot residential lot. grass is gnarly and rough. not your manicured type grass, it's a mix of clumps, weeds, and different types of grass , whatever wild stuff will grow. it is not used for entire lot as we also have riding gas mower but it is used for areas that riding cannot get. it does a very good job. it does as good a job as my gas mower did. i use the side discharge attachment which was a separate purchase item. don't be fooled thinking it comes with mower, which it should, shame on ryobi for not including it with the bag and mulching plug. it was another $25-$30. plus it was not the easiest thing to find and verify compatibility. one thing that we were pleasantly surprised at was how light weight it felt. my wife and daughter can mow without their noodle arms getting tired. simple to get going and runs full strength until battery is depleted. approximately one hour with 6A/hr battery. we have used it 1 or 2 times a week or more for about 1 month so far. a couple of don't likes, the handles on side of bars that turn to extend and shorten the mowing handle are very easily bumped and will loosen. i took zip tie and tied them to fix their position since i don't need to wad up the mower for compact storage anyway. one suggestion is to put dark tinting over top of clear acrylic battery compartment cover as the sun will treat your battery like a roast in that enclosed dutch oven and batteries will falter under that kind of heat and shorten your run time. you can either buy and install dark window tinting or buy and spray on some tinting spray. this may help keep the battery cooler. if you go in to take a break, don't leave battery in the sun for long periods of time. its too bad ryobi didn't install something akin to a ridge cap on the lid to get rid of the heat buildup. overall, i would recommend it and am glad i bought it.

Self Propelled feature broke after two uses
Was super excited to get this mower. There were a ton of positives for me. Mower was super light, easy to change mowing height as well as handle height. I also liked the fact that the mower was very quiet, mowed through high grass pretty easily and I really like the fact that it didn't need gas as I plan to go long stretches between mowing. With the Ethanal in gas these days gas mowers seem to get gunked up and require maintenance regularly. On the negative side the mowers self propelled feature broke after only a two uses.......just toast. I already purchased the mower, blower and the trimmer to be able to share batteries. I am $600 in on lawn equipment and the mower broke after two uses. That doesn't give me much confidence in Ryobi. Will be heading back to Home Depot to see what my options are for a return.

                                    Cutting-Edge mower!
I love this mower! I have used it about 15 times now and it always does a perfect job on our 1/3 acre lot. It is such a brilliant design - after I'm done, it folds and stands up in my small shed, easily moved around due to its lightweight plastic design. Some reviews say it takes a long time for the battery to recharge, but for me that was only the first time, and now it is usually 2-3 hours. There is a good case to be made for this 40V mower. So many people want 50V or 60V power, or a heavy metal blade casing, but when you read those reviews they also complain about running out of juice too quickly. A 40V has plenty of power and lasts longer - especially with the large capacity 6ah battery. My neighbors say they're surprised when I mow my lawn, because they can't hear the mower inside their homes. As a longtime Ryobi buyer, I am confidant that this will be the last mower I ever buy. One tip - I also bought a 40V trimmer/blower kit, and use that battery to finish up on the odd occasion when the 6ah lawnmower battery doesn't make it, such as when the grass is wet or I am bagging the clippings, or heavily using the self-propelled feature. Well done, Ryobi!

Easy to use. Light weight and easy to clean. I love this mower. I use it and then take the battery and key out, flip it over and sweep it clean. Easy... I've done the grass twice when it was wet with the mulcher attachment instead of the bag. Excellent. When done, I again flipped it with the battery out and used a putty knife to scrap the wet grass off the blade housing. I covered the blade with a towel. If cleaning, starting and maintaining a gas mower were this easy when I was 14 I would've been cutting grass instead of wash dishing at the neighborhood restaurant.

                                    Best Cordless Lawn Mower!!!(Updated Review)
This is my 2nd time ive used this lawn mower and decided to use it for both the back yard and front lawn on a single charge. This by far has exceeded my expectations and lasted just a little over 1 hour. I only thing i wish was the bag catch was a little bigger as you will have to dump it after about 4-5 passes depending on how low your cutting. But other then that I posted pictures to get you a idea of how big my yard is and much i was able to get done in 1 hour.

Not Overly Impressed After First Use
Short Version: < 2000 SF lawn, used half of 6.0Ah battery, knocked some tall grass down instead of cut, was expecting better Long Version: I was originally between an EGO product and this mower. The value vs more power and slightly better reviews was not there for me. I landed on the Ryobi line for our small (<2000 SF) yard. The grass was last mowed a week prior. The grass was a bit tall and thick and may have been a bit too much for the mower. The blade cut most of the grass but knocked down some blades of grass. It's not just isolated spots where the mower knocked the grass down - every pass had uncut blades of grass sticking up. Based on the reviews, I expected better. I will give the mower a second try after 3 to 4 days between mows instead of 7 days.

                                        Amazing mower!
I never thought I would own a battery mower. Who would think one would have enough power to mow even a very tiny lawn. I recently moved my main home grass which is very small, approximately 200 square feet of grass, it did an amazing job. When finished the battery still was at 100% charge. I then mowed our vacant lot. It is 185 feet by 46 feet. I never thought it would be able to mow that much on one charge. It did and still had 75% charge left. It does a better job than my gas mower. It is so quiet that with the LED lights I could mow at night if so inclined. The battery is easy to charge. The mower is light and easy to push. It seems very well constructed. I really am impressed to this point. Highly recommend!

Recently purchased this mower in lieu of a gas mower. The self-propel I am still giving it a chance, but the battery life is HORRIBLE. It’s been roughly 2 days and my yard still isn't done because the battery dies before I can finish. The battery takes a good 4hrs to charge and only last about 25-30 mins while using self-propel. I have not tested it without it yet because the yard did get a little out of control. However, it cuts through thick grass with a fair amount of ease. It’s also an easy mower to use, even the kids can use it, also very little to no vibration. All and all its a good mower, just wish the battery lasted longer and charged faster, may need to get a Second battery for larger yards (I have 2 lots). After trying it without using self-propel its determined that the self-propel is meant more as an assistance in tough situations vs to be used for the whole time. Without using self-propel I was able to do the whole yard. For those who want to try the mower but on the fence about it, check out your local garden center and see if they have some returns, they usually sell cheaper. Also, without self-propel the mower is easy to push, and I have an uneven yard. The wheels are big enough to make it through most situations. I would also have to say my favorite feature outside of it saving me money is how easy it is to adjust the height. I’m impressed to say the least about this electric mower, and I’ve owned LawnBoys and Honda mowers. I even went out and bought the Trimmer, mainly for the purpose of having a second battery even though its smaller. It was cheaper to buy the trimmer than to just by a second battery.

We initially purchased one for our duplex. We always had a hard time starting a supposedly "one pull" more modern Toro. We had a service man come over, clean out the carb and got it started. Then a week after my wife couldn't get it started again, called the repair man, he came back and brerated my wife about not knowing how to start it. That was that, so we decided to go green. So we bought the above product and out of the box worked fine, but would quit turning corners. The trick is making sure the handle is completely pulled out to engage the inner contacts then lock it in place. Since then no issues and my wife loves it, very light and easy to maneuver. I brought it home to test out on my yard which has hills. Worked great. Used the self popel engagement a few times(nice feature with adjustable speed). Then bought a second one for home use. It held a nice charge, I used it at the duplex, then my house, and then back to the duplex and still had 2 out of four charge dots left. Granted we don't have large yards, but I was impressed. I would also like to make a pitch for the 18V +One system. I have a sidewalk edger, a string edger, a variable speed blower and a vacuum. All work great. I am thinking about buying more accessories. BTW, I am not a Ryobi or Home Depot employee.
