Really live the ease of this mower
I bought this a few weeks ago. I’m 65 and hate doing lawn work. I figured how hard can it be, can mow, stop when I’m to hot, jump in pool cool off and do more of the yard. I mowed back yard one morning, front yard late afternoon! It’s super easy to put together, and easy to use. Love the adjustment for the self propelled, slow is more my speed but going uphill easier to go a little quicker. The battery lasts long enough for me to get the yard done. I don’t have a huge space, in a small neighborhood. I also have the weed trimmer and small hedge or plant trimmer. Really like all of them. Still hate yard work but the money I’m saving not paying a yard service it pays for itself pretty quick.

1 year of trouble free use.
One year of use with this mower. I have had zero issues with mower or battery. Don't miss lugging around a jug of gas or yearly oil & filter changes. You have a fuel source built into your home. Why make special trips to buy another one? Actually doesn't bog down as much as my old 4hp gas mower in thick grass. If you have really thick/tall grass you will want to bag as it takes a lot more battery to mulch cut. This mower will bag grass, cutting at the 2nd or 3rd notch from top cut height for around 50 mins with the 6ah battery and a sharp blade. Blade sharpness is a must with a battery mower to attain run time FYI! Also follow the storage instructions on battery care. Lithium batteries should not be stored for more than a few days at 100% charge. They are the complete opposite of old school flooded batteries. I have 10 year old li-ions that still work because I have followed this rule. Buy this mower and enjoy fume and trouble free mowing!!

      Most awesome.
Three thumbs up. This mower is slightly less powerful then the gas mower but you do not have to deal with stinky oil or gas or leaks eww. It was so easy to get started and cleans up and breaks down for storage just as easy. The large battery charges fast and last forever. Truly proved its worth by taking my lawn with grass in parts over 2 ft tall. We did not have a truck to get the riding mower so I purchased one I could fit in my car. This mower exceeded all my expectations. The mulch bag works very well and it is so quiet you can mow at night with it. I haven't done it yet but I will. It has lights on the front but you will probably still need a head lamp if you mow in the dark like I like to do (its cooler). It sounds like a fan not the typical loud annoying gas mower so no terrorizing your pets as you mow. Its light weight and easy to push even in my overgrown forest of a yard. I also have the ryobi limb saw and love it too ill buy the hedge trimmer tool next . Love it and can't say enough great things.

        Weak & Dies
It cannot cut my lawn in one go. I live in Nolanville, so my lawn is slightly bigger than a Harker Heights or a Killeen lawn, but even still. I don't mean the full front and back either. I mean it cannot cut the front in one go OR the back in one go. Sometimes I'll let the battery charge while I weedeat, but the connection is weird and you'll think it's charging only to come back and find it wasn't. There is no side spray, so you either bag it or it just clumps in the blade area and makes a mess. If you do that, it takes more battery life. I can't use the self-propelled feature because again, it'll kill the battery too fast. This thing is worthless. I have other Ryobi products, but this one is non-usable. Even a second battery doesn't change the problem of it not having enough power to cut through the grass without clumping. It advertises as gas-like power and this long battery life...neither are true. Extra batteries are $180! Go with a different maker with a stronger battery even if it costs you $100 extra it will be worth it to not deal with this. My neighbor has a Kobalt and he can cut his front and back on one charge. I can't cut either with one charge.

          So far so good
I really like my mower so far. I purchased on 05/03/21 and have used it four times. It has plenty of power, is easy to push, and cuts well. As others have said, the battery really only lasts about 45 minutes or so, but in the heat of the summer that gives me a chance to take a break while it charges. I still have not received my complimentary rapid charger (I assume it's coming?? I'm not sure how long it's supposed to take), so I typically will stop for several hours and do something else while it charges enough to finish the yard. My only real complaint thus far is that the cushion on the handle is already torn and from so few uses (picture attached)! Apart from that I've been extremely happy with the mower.

            horrible defective mower
If I could give this a negative 100 review...in for repairs within first year 3 times. 1st blade motor would not engage, 2nd time battery fried and now the handlebar became dislodged due to the self.propelled not disengaging. The mower won't stop moving and I had to grip the handlebar so tight the handlebar came off and pulled the switch wires out. Horrible and dangerous product . Do not buy.

I like this mower, light weight and self propelled for a reasonable price. Good warranty. But what to do, parts a transmission for self propelled is back order until ???? Could buy another, but then when the part comes I have two mowers one yard. Maybe I could get the new second one for half, that seems fair. What do you think. Mover presedntly at the shop, lawn is presently growing.

3 40v batteries later and they keep faulting.
I bought two Ryobi products a 40v lawn mower and a 40v trimmer. Each product came with a 40v battery and I purchased an additional one because they just keep going bad. Well now the extra one that I purchased has gone faulty as well. Two were less than 2 yrs old and the 3rd was only 1 year old. I have video of it but this website doesn't allow video uploads only pictures. I do not recommend any Ryobi products.

                  Lasted about a year
The pins holding the frame together come apart and are not easily put back on. The frame is flimsy and bends all too easily - I guess from too many left turns. After a year, the battery dies with 2 bars still on it.

I have used this twice since purchasing it. First, let me say that customer service at Home Depot in Pooler is the BEST!! Had issues with the battery but they quickly rectified the problem. This mower was easy to assemble and very simple to operate. Love the ease of shifting the speed and folding to put it away!!! Reasonably priced and Worth it!!!!

                      Worst Mower on the Market
This lawn mower works for 2 months and then continually stops over and over again. I believe the issue is with the safety module on the right side that requires full extension to allow the mower to run. If you push to hard to rotate the mower it just shuts off. I have a very small yard and it stops over 20 times. Do not try and extend the handle or it will break very easily. The plastic is very brittle and if you pull to hard to make sure the handle is full extended it will just pop out, see picture. I have returned the first one I bought for a replacement believing I just got a bad one and the second one did the exact same thing. This is the worst quality mower I have ever owned, just a cheap piece of plastic. Please do not buy this mower just spend a bit more money and avoid the hassle.

                        Constantly shuts down
It’s pretty embarrassing to cut a tiny bit of grass for so long. I’ve adjusted height to more than half and it still dies after a little push. Their “brushless” motor just can’t handle grass cutting. I really like their weed wacker so I thought I would give this a try, but man..... Don’t waste your money like me.

I researched several brands and models of battery powered mowers. This one I chose because it has a one lever height adjustment with many choices for mowing height. After I fully charged the battery, I was able to mow for over an hour on the one charge. It's easy to use, and will fold up compactly and store vertically against the wall to save space. It came with the mulch plug installed, and a bag if I want to catch the clippings. The mulcher is working just fine for me. Easy to clean with just a wipe down with an old rag to clean the underneath and the outside cover. Don't use any water to clean it. I highly recommend this particular model. The higher voltage battery makes a big difference in the power and it will boost the power as it mows if it needs to power through deeper grass. There is a handy receptacle under the cover to store an extra fully charged battery so you can switch them out and keep mowing, giving you approx. 2 hours of mowing at one time. The amount of mowing time you get out of one charge will depend on how easy or difficult your mowing situation is. I can go out and run it around the yard whenever I want. No smelly gasoline to keep on hand and no oil to manage and change. This is worth every penny.

                            Solved the grass problems
I don't have any grass on my property, just trees. However, in the back of my property is a power line that is not maintained. So, I bought this 40V 20" Ryobi mower. I am very happy w/ the effectiveness of this mower to go through the 1-2' high wild grasses. I used the mower right out of the box and ran the battery down. After charging overnight, I find I can not run the battery down after 1+ hour of mowing. I'm not trying to clear the whole area, just portions to make paths and minimize the invasive blackberry bushes. Thx Ryobi for a powerful mower. Hope I don't break it-ha!

                              Pleasantly surprised with durability concerns
My 6.5 horsepower mower broke the other day and it rained since then so my grass is at least 6 to 10 inches tall. I was fed up with gas mowers so I bought this one. It went through what normally bogged out my 6.5 horsepower push mower and I was using the mulching option. My grass area is probably 1/8 anchor and I did it on half a charge. Quiet, easy to start. Concerns, this thing is 90% plastic I really don't know what would happen if you hit a rock or something. If you have an uneven lawn and need to push the mower a little bit more the safety latches moved a few times killing the mower. I think that part is engineered poorly and I will reach out to RYOBI. The battery takes quite a while to charge on the included charger so if you need to charge part way I would buy a better charger or additional battery. Knowing what I know now I may have gone to the next model up or the self propelled version.

Good for Light Duty or Small Yards
Purchased in April 2021, based on a glowing review somewhere on this page. Easy to use. Grass bag was mildly annoying to assemble. Beware of battery life, even when not using the self-propel option, on grass over 3" or a yard larger than 1/4 acre. I own half an acre altogether, and I cannot get a full cut out of a battery. Review the picture: within the red dots is the cutting area, and this week, that area has already taken 4 cuts to complete, no self-propel, and I haven't finished the back yet. The battery is currently charging, and I'll have to go and do it for the 3rd time in 2 days. One battery lasts 20-40 minutes depending on grass height. 5 cut attempts = 100-200 minutes weekly in multiple stages, when with a gas-power push motor, it would take 60-90 altogether, no problem. Good mower for light duty use. Not good for heavy duty use.

Tried to find something to critique but had a hard time. Extremely easy to use and assemble, light, quiet, powerful enough- I had really tall grass when I used it and put it 2 settings from the lowest. Still got the job done with half the battery left. Probably wouldn’t do so well with wet grass on the same setting. Battery does take hours to charge but for my lawn size I still have plenty of leftover juice. Ignore patches in my lawn, was from giant patches of nutsedge and previous owners letting the bugs take over.

battery doesnt last, push button start has problems
I bought this lawn mower last month. it has mowed my lawn twice. I have physical limitations so I cannot walk my entire yard in one go. My propery is .14 acres my back yard is about 90'x30' rectangular. I alwasy start with my back yard because if the battery dies (and its a new mower so I dont really know what to expect from battery life) then I can come back after I charge the battery and finish the front (small about 15x15)... the first time I mowed I did the entire back yard and the front on one battery charge. one week later I mowed the front and then recharged the battery and then a friend came to mow the back. He got half way through - about three loops around the outside edge -inside the fence line - and the battery was done. I charged it again and finished mowing it the next day. it is now a week later - I go out to mow the back on a full battery. the grass is one week longer than it was when it was mowed last week. I got all but the middle strip done - before the mower battery was done. so apparently I need another battery if I want to do my whole back yard - not to speak of my front yard too. but today - it wouldn't start. as I said, I have mobility issues so I start it - do two laps around then stop and go in for 15 minutes to rest and then go out and start it up and go 2 laps and then go in and rest 15 minutes... and it doesnt want to start. I can feel the button push - I know I have battery (it was full - or mostly full - or half full or 1/4 full).. but I'm standing out there pushing on the button - waiting (cuz sometimes it take a minute) and pushing and waiting and letting go and pushing and wiggling and waiting ... it took me 2 or 3 minutes to figure out where the sweet spot was to make it start.. not a great user expereince.

                                        Great for our lawn
We recently moved and have a much larger lawn than what we used to have so of course the grass in this home has to be maintained and rather than paying someone to do so we figured we’d save some cash and cut it ourselves. This lawnmower is super easy to use and the battery lasts throughout each cut. It glides effortlessly and evenly. My son is now adding this chore to his list and he very much enjoyed doing so because it isn’t to bulky or heavy to move. I personally like how compact it is since I hate having bulky things in our garage(hoarders paradise) I can see this lasting us a long time!

Let me say I don’t normally write reviews , but decided to since this was my first electric mower. So I was first a little skeptical about purchasing an electric mower. Especially the cost but, after researching other brands and availability. So I went with Ryobi. Since I’ve had other products from them in the past and was satisfied with the performance. And after using this for my first electric mower it (really does a great job even in tall grass as I my yard is over 12’’ . The only reason why I choose to get a mower is because my (2) gas powered mowers, would not start after 2 days trying and no results. And my lawn care guy didn’t show for 3 days.Needless to say I was so glad I choose this, and ordered 40volt electric weed eater the following week. After my gas powered weed eater kept coming apart from the motor causing it to not cut anything. Best choice for the money no problem except my yard is quite large and I need another battery. I have been stopping and recharging it, not mentally ready to purchase a hundred dollar battery. Now I’m waiting on the fast charger from the rebate offer. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, powerful and easy to use cuts and sounds like a gas powered mower with headlights.

I am handicapped so I think next time I would definitely upgrade to the self-propelled because for me this one was hard to push and it was longer than my last one so hard to turn.

                                          Lite and powerful
I needed to replace my 30 year old gas mower. I have a bank that is too steep to cut with the riding mower. I need two or three passes 300 feet long and around flower beds in the yard. After fully charging the battery I was ready to test this mower. The grass was 8-12 inches tall due to alot of bad weather. I tried both with and without self-propellation turned on. It was easy to push being much liter than the old gas mower with porpellation off and with propellation it made the work easy with the adjustable walking speed control

                                            Pleasantly surprised
I was a little skeptical when I bought this mower but decided to give it a try because I was fed up with yanking a cord for what seemed like forever and still not getting the old gas mower started. The first time I used it I set it on 3 because I didn't trust it to cut the grass low but soon realized it could handle the lowest setting easily. My lot is just under 1/4 acre and I did have to recharge the battery on the first cut of thick grass after an hour of non-stop use but only charged it for a few minutes to give it enough power to finish a small strip in less than 5 minutes ( my gas mower would have run out of gas in an hour of continuous mowing and need to cool down a few minutes before refueling so this was an even swap)... have mowed twice since then with one charge each time: finishing in 40-45 minutes with one of the four indicator lights still lit on the battery. I really like how it automatically speeds up in thicker grass and is very lightweight making it easy to handle. Also, since I no longer have a storage building outside it is a breeze to simply wipe down and fold up for inside storage away from the elements. My only concern about this mower now is how durable it will be but as as of now I am sold on it and unless it suddenly falls apart I will be done with pulling cords and pouring gas!

Dead easy setup. No struggling with gas and exhaust. Easy to adjust height and its pretty quiet!
This mower is fun to use! You can get it up and running very quickly. Adjusting height is insanely easy too - its just one lever. Its really powerful but still quieter than a gas mower. The self-propelled feature really makes it a breeze to use. We have many other Ryobi tools and love how the batteries work on other tools as well.

                                                go with gas instead
I am not impressed with it. it struggles to cut and even with two batteries I can't finish my lawn. I have two batteries and it's been 9 months and both the batteries don't last as long as they used to. I give it a 2 star and I'm being generous
