When I went to check out, the only registers available were the self-check out. I had a question about one of the items I was purchasing. I asked the employee standing by the registers, "Is anyone checking people out?" He responded, "If you want that, you will have to go down to the contractor checkout." He then turned and walked away from me. I went down to the other end of the store to check out. The young lady cashiering there did not have an answer to my question, but was otherwise pleasant. I resent that the only available registers were the self-checkout ones. I'm quite sure that if I choose to spend my money at a business, I deserve to be assisted by a human being. Also, employees on the floor are often difficult to find. Or too busy texting or otherwise engaged on their cell phones to help customers. Additionally, I have tried to three weeks to get an answer as to which documents Home Depot requires for the veterans discount. I have presented my Driver's Lic. with veteran citation, my VA Card, and even a copy of my DD214. None of these seem to suffice. Is anyone else having this trouble? Lowe's, across the highway, just looks at my Driver's License for their discount.

I had staff re-key a lock for me with my current house keys. Instead of doing this they gave me the they keys from inside the deadbolt package, kept my house keys so I couldn't get back into my house, and told me to come back the next day for resolution. No one seemed very concerned or that this was at all abnormal.

I visited Home Depot after receiving a couple in the mail. Big mistake. I usually go to Lowe's for these types for purchases so my husband and I assumed that I could go and make this purchase without his help. In our experiences making large purchases at Lowe's we always received help loading heavy or bulky items and making arrangements for pick up. In this trip, purchased 17 bags of 2 cu.ft. garden soil about 5 large bags of mulch that needed to picked up the purchase in two loads. The garden center employees were not aware of how to help me arrange to do this. As I shopped for the items and the garden center employees stood around the cash register chatting. At one point I was reaching for some fencing on a top shelf that was difficult to reach and a garden center employee literally walked passed me in order to offer help to a very attractive young female customer. When I checked out I received misinformation from garden center staff on how to arrange the two load pick up. The cashier in the garden center literally copped this sardonic expression and signed this heavy sigh as if he wished to be anywhere but there which I interpreted as the wish that I would take my problem and go away. From this poor guy who obviously hates his job, I received misinformation and a general disinterest in exercising any problem solving skill to help me. He sent me to customer service where I received a set of instructions on how to return for my second load from a much more helpful employee. Unfortunately, when I returned to pick up the second load I encountered an Assistant Manager who told me that the service counter employee who tried to help me was out of compliance with store policy and shouldn't have helped me. I have to wonder if store policy gets the only employee in the place who actually acted like she wanted me to shop there in trouble then the there is a corporate culture / training & development problem that goes beyond a general lack of morale and good working conditions. I will happily spend $20.00 extra on a $220 order to receive basic customer service at Lowe's in the future.

The Home Depot is just as good as Lowes. Lowes is closer to my home, but I use both stores. Home Depot has gotten "BETTER" than it use to be 20 or less years ago! I think that the store is "more on the ball" NOW. AT THE CASH REGISTER, the cashier Peter made a difference in my opinion of the store checking out. HE WAS NOT OVERLY FRIENDLY. I guess you could say he was just patient. GOOD.

Excellent value for the money. Red, white and blue sale was incredible 40% off on our new stove plus military discount. Incredible value. Store employee named Darius was extremely helpful and went out of his way to assist. They converted us from Lowes. Great job Home Depot.
