How adjustable is the length?

I have a bar area that I want them mounted over at a lower height. However, when we have people over, I use that area as buffet area, so would like the pendants higher. Are these adjustable like that? How hard is it to do the adjusting? Wish someone sold the old-fashioned retractable light fixtures that I could buy. That's what I really want.
Asked by: fairlanedaddy
i shortened mine to about 6" in total lenght. I loosened that weird lock screw with the corner of a standard flat head screwdriver. I then cut the wire clean with wire cutters and stripped the wires with a regular stripper tool. It works perfectly

1-Light Antique Brass Adjustable Mini Pendant is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problems with fixture We bought this fixture thinking it would be an easy installation. When we flipped the switch - no light. After checking all possibilities we decided to go back to Home Depot and buy another. Unfortunately the same thing happens. Very disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and Elegant This is a great product for the price! The instructions are vague at best. But if you know basic wiring, it is easy to install. This product is designed for rooms with high ceilings. I mounted mine to an angled vaulted ceiling near my front door. I shortened the wire to about 6". 2 cons on this product. The non-standard lock screw for the power wire and the vague instructions

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I do not recommend them!!! I bought two of these lights and they were a PAIN to install. The sheath around the three wires is absurdly difficult to cut. The wires are nearly impossible to identify (except for the ground which has a very light green color that runs the length of the wire). I would have taken them back, but had cut into one of the wires so at that point I was committed. I think these were the cheapest choice available and I would imagine that the higher end stuff is better, so if you can afford it, I would recommend going with something different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job perfectly Good quality product matches the description. Easy to install but if you need a cord shorter than 3 ft you will have to cut it as not all of it will fit inside the base, but that is to be expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So "In" style. Sure beats the old over the sink ceiling fixture I replaced! As the kids say it looks "Sweet" and those kids are 35 and 45 years old~~~

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and Beautiful This was relatively easy to install with absolutely no electrical experience. I purchased an old wire egg basket and the chord on this kit fit perfectly into the existing hole on the bottom of the basket. I decided to swag the fixture so it was centered over my table, and it was extremely easy to do so. It is very lightweight and the chord is strong, but flexible. The oil rubbed bronze finish was not too dark or too light for my taste. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Installation Pain These lights are a real pain to install. Unless you have 12' ceilings or plan to hang the light a foot above the floor, you'll have to trim the cord. The instructions say nothing about how to do this. I was able to figure it out, but it's not easy. There are very small nylon screws holding the cord in the canopy. You need a very small flat tip screw driver to loosen. I purchased two fixtures. On one, the screw was frozen and just tore up when I tried to loosen. Because of that I couldn't retighten properly so the cord was slipping in the canopy. I had to resort to duct tape to keep it from pulling through the canopy. Even more frustrating are the wires. To trim, you'll need to strip off the outer clear sheathing to get to individual wires. Out of the box, each wire has a little label identifying it as hot, common, and ground. Once you cut the cable to desired length, you lose the labels. The problem is that all the wires look the same. I finally noticed that there was an extremely pale green line on the ground wire, but needed a magnifying glass to see it. It was a toss up as to which of the remaining wires were which. I know polarity isn't so important with AC, but still... the wires should be color coded or textured like with some lamp cords so you know hot from common and the ground should be marked more clearly. I basically used the wire's orientation relative to the ground so that I was at least consistent in connecting the two fixtures. Although they look good and the price was reasonable, if I had to do it again, I'd find something else. What should have take an hour or less took closer to 3.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor appearance, green wire running the length of cord! On the brushed nickle finish kit the wire is completely exposed with a clear casing, which would be fine except for the green wire running through the length of the cord. Very poor design. This does not show on the box so you need to open the box and make sure you like the wire. This needs to be changed for those wanting the brushed finish. We bought four of these only to get home and find out they have the green wire which totally looks awful for our application. Whoever came up with this idea was way off. Now we are looking for another kit that will work with our globe.
