Can the mirrored frame be painted to achieve the brushed nickel finish? What is the chest made of?

The aluminum casing covers the sides, but what material is the cabinet made of?
Asked by: Judy
The chest is all metal and mirror finished. You could take the door off and mask off everything to change the color. I have nickel stuff in my bathroom and the muted gold color does not bother me and I think it matches close enough.

23.5 in. x 29 in. Recessed or Surface Mount Mirrored Medicine Cabinet in Gold is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent mirrowed cabinet either for recessed or surface mounting This `dull gold` mirrored finish) is definitely a high standard medicine cabinet using top quality fittings. I opted for the easier surface mounting as the pipework for the bathroom is in between the wall cavity (yeah I know, not good) The house was built in 1890 and has some issues regarding the unusual plumbing. The supplied instructions were okay, although several times I did have to do a `double take` and use my own judgment for the installation. Having said that, the pamphlet guidance was useful. I fixed the first bracket in which the cabinet will sit on top but found that the cabinet was way too heavy for me to be lifting it and holding in position while marking the position for the two top brackets. Removing the mirrored door was easy and with two of the four screw holes being elongated made it very comfortable to fit back. I did use my own wall anchors and screws as I did find the ones supplied were not adequate enough for surface fitting (too long and the supplied screws go in at least half way before they `start to grip`) With the shell now fitted to the wall and I had the door back on; again it was so easy to fit back on with the two elongated holes that have their screws fitted back in allowing the door to align with the two screw heads and simply sliding the door so that the door is held and then tightening them before using the other two door screws to finish the assembly. The magnetic door catch works very well. The glass shelving is good together with the locating holding pins which slot easily into the holes. The two side mirrors are simply stuck on the side brackets and hold no problems at all. The inside space measurements are 12-3/4 W X 18-1/2 H X 3-1/2 inches deep

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving my goldnew mirror! This is an excellent medicine cabinet for a single width sink area. It looks stylish and the side paneled mirrors and also inner mirrored surface make it look like a much more expensive item. The gold tone is not overpowering and it seemed to go ok in terms of matching a nickle fixture in the bathroom that was recently replaced. The overall construction is excellent and reminds me of a higher priced unit. The included spare parts, was an added plus and a GREAT addition as I stripped out a screw I choose to surface mount this item as it is winter time and I was not sure of the final location. I do plan on recess mounting it in the wall as I have to redo the wall anyways. The hardware included allow either options and everything is included so you can choose to do either option. The spare parts again allow you an extra chance if you do mess up on an item. Installation is not that difficult but the instructions are lacking, they would do well for putting in some extra photos and breakouts for the novices. Some tips on installation - Take the mirror off and only install only the box, then add in the mirror after everything is done. This allows you to more easily make sure everything is level both horizontal and vertical. - When installing the bottom bracket, make sure the box is in the bracket groove when you set the medicine cabinet in it, mine was not the first time but I did notice it. - You are going to need a long screwdriver or extension bit for the top brackets as the lip gets in the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from mirror, mirror on the wall... This mirror/medicine cabinet is absolutely beautiful and elegant. It is very practical yet very stylish. The golden frame sets this medicine cabinet apart from the others. It is manufactured with great quality materials and it is designed with style and elegance in mind. The best part about the design of this medicine cabinet is that it can be installed on the wall surface and opened either toward left or toward right. The medicine cabinet was shipped in a sturdy package and there was no damage. It includes all the hardware for recessed mount and surface mount, and clear and easy to follow instructions. This medicine cabinet weighs about 30 lb, and although the installation is very easy, I highly recommend having help when installing this mirror. It took me about one hour to have it up on the wall, but if I would have had help, it would have been ready in 15 min. Otherwise, this mirror/cabinet is great to update and style a bathroom at the same time having an additional storage for all those beauty products. All in all, I love this medicine cabinet so much, I can only praise how great it is and I highly recommend it for any bathroom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smaller than expected, not much storage I got this mirror for my main bathroom. It arrived impeccably packed and with no damage. Overall, the mirror is nice looking, and even though the frame is plastic, it doesn't look cheap. So why am I a little bummed? Well, the main description states the mirror is 24" by 29" which is incorrect. The actual width is 23.5", which is in the specifications, but it should state it in the main description. A half inch might not seem like a big deal, but because the mirror is an oval, the actual medicine chest is pretty small so every 1/2 inch matters. In the specifications it states the recessed opening measurements as: 19 1/8" high by 13 1/4" wide. When I measured the recessed opening - inside measurements that you can use for storage - I got: 18 1/2" high by 12 1/2" wide. I guess the recessed opening measurements in the specifications are the outside so you know what size hole to cut if you want to recess the medicine cabinet. Because the medicine cabinet is much smaller than I expected, I decided to install it in my powder room. Why? Well, to be able to put any 'tall' bottles in the cabinet, the first shelf has to be at 8". Well that leaves just 10 1/2" for the other shelf to be installed and looking at the pre-drilled holes, this is impossible. The first hole starts at 4" off the bottom (since you can put the hinge on the left or right, the shelf hole spacing is the same from the top/bottom). I still feel that this mirror is a good buy and recommend it, but just wanted others to be warned about the storage capacity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice upgrade This framed Bathroom Medicine Cabinet in Gold compliments the powder room very well and adds a little storage as well. This Medicine Cabinet does require some assembly but only a few minutes worth. I chose the surface mount option because I really didn't want to cut into the walls of the powder room. Mounting it only took a few minutes once I got it marked. After the little work to get it mounted it made the powder room look a lot nicer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We painted it - love the interior mirror! Awful, awful, AWFUL directions for installation. . . . but you'll figure it out! Once you do, it's not difficult (we recess mounted it). The mirror frame is plastic - not metal - so we painted it to match our vanity and I am very happy with the result! I would not consider it a match for brushed nickle fixtures at all, as it was slightly gold/brown toned . . and plastic. It's a great size and the inside is mirrored on the backside as well. Neat!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy if you want brushed nickel! It is a beautiful mirror and good quality. However, it is not brushed nickel as it is described. It is more gold tone than silvery. I wouldn't mind the color, but I have redone the entire bath and changed every fixture from gold to brushed nickel, including the door knobs. Since this mirror sits between the brushed nickel faucet and the brushed nickel vanity light (which match each other perfectly) it is a real disappointment that this doesn't match. I wish I had been abke to find one in the stores and didn't have to order it sight unseen. Also one of the tempered glass shelves was chipped in a corner. I just turned it to the back. I would return it if it hadn't been installed already.
