I want to cut out the existing valve and replace it with this one. Existing valve is 3.5 inches length. This valve is 2.5 inches length. What do I do? It appears that I have to add a short length of pipe to insert the new valve. Should I cut out a length of pipe in addition to the what the existing valve is connected to? Also where the existing valve is positioned (pipe in basement in open ceiling) the pipe is unsupported. Do I need to support pipe near the new valve (behind and ahead of valve)?
