Will birds eat it if placed on top of overseeding?

Asked by: Nikki
Only for the grit like chickens since there is nothing in this other than sand, but a special sand!

Do you have to work into soil or can you just apply over grass

Asked by: JRM
You can just rake in but would be better if you at least aerate thoroughly

Subsurface Drip Irrigation

Is there any advice on how you would use this with Subsurface Drip Irrigation? Would you lay it down below the emitters or at the emitter level? Seems most of these recommendations are for sprinkler irrigation.

How is this material applied? Will I need a spreader? Which is recommended?

Asked by: sunshineray
Is best with a drop spreader but is okay with a rotary spreader as long as there is NO wind as the sand is so fine will blow away

I have been using this product when I make my special soil for planting cactus, Cannas, Mexican Petunias, etc., and it really improves my special soil. I never make my special soil without using a good scoop full (4 qt scoop) to my vermiculite, perlite, potting soil, sifted soil, ferrous sulfate and, of course, composted chicken manure. Blend all this in my small cement mixer and I have created ambrosia for my plants. I always keep 4 bags in my personal inventory. By the way, this is really driller's mud used to drill for oil and keep the drill bit lubricated. Didn't know this but Lubbock, Texas and there is oil under that ground!

I used this along with topsoil to rejuvenate a badly dried up lawn. Initially I watered quite a bit the first dew days, then was able to reduce watering (in April, before the rainy season) to every other day. I found it necessary to rake this into the soil or it became like jelly on the top. My lawn is a month out from application and totally green.

Because of watering restrictions, in my area, I applied this product to my lawn last spring after aerating it first. I am well pleased with the results... My lawn was nice and green while my neighbor's lawns looked terrible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AquaSmart Lawn Saver I put this on my lawn after cutting it rather short and watered the product in according to the instructions on the bag. I lowered the watering intervals somewhat during the first week with high temps and no rain, and the second week I did not water at all with no rain. I am now able to reduce my watering in half or more. I saw very green grass at the end of the second week and also good growth. I now water much less, and the grass is the best looking in my neighborhood. Very pleased with his product and would use it more if it were carried in the store. It definitely promotes water conservation and reduces my high priced water bills in the hot summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heat, drought and water restrictions? AquaSmart helps hold the moisture in the soil Purchased on Home Depot Internet Site as not available in store. Applied and waited a couple of weeks to see improvement. Satisfied with improvement so purchased some more and finished areas in my lawn. Central Texas drought, 100 degree weather, wind and water restrictions (1 time per week)are making it difficult to keep the lawn green. I applied in hot spots that were yellow and actually dead. Grass is now growing back in the treated areas. The Texas hill country has little top soil, so top soil is hauled in prior to the lawn being planted. Hot spots are area with low amounts of top soil and low root penetration.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked for me. Bought two bags and it made a noticeable difference. Lawn looks much better. It does like to hang in the air when you apply it so a drop spreader would be ideal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Increase water available to plants After purchasing this item, I put 1 T of aqua smart in 3/4 cup of water and it absorbed it all. I only purchased enough for my beds which are extensive. I won't know the bottom line until the end of the summer, but from my initial observation, the product is promising. However, I spread this like one would fertilizer then raked it in the mulch, so as not to leave directly on the ground. If one were to want to put this on a lawn, there are special instructions like scalping the grass, then aerating. I poured the experimental solution on the ground, and it just laid there like a patty. I called the manufacturer and they were very helpful.
