Hi JRM, the manufacture recommends using a spreader. You do not have work into soil. Follow the instructions on the back of package.

Is there any advice on how you would use this with Subsurface Drip Irrigation? Would you lay it down below the emitters or at the emitter level? Seems most of these recommendations are for sprinkler irrigation.

Is best with a drop spreader but is okay with a rotary spreader as long as there is NO wind as the sand is so fine will blow away

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 28 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked for me. Bought two bags and it made a noticeable difference. Lawn looks much better. It does like to hang in the air when you apply it so a drop spreader would be ideal. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No Noticeable Difference After about a month of applying this product on the lawn, no noticeable difference in water retention. August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heat, drought and water restrictions? AquaSmart helps hold the moisture in the soil Purchased on Home Depot Internet Site as not available in store. Applied and waited a couple of weeks to see improvement. Satisfied with improvement so purchased some more and finished areas in my lawn. Central Texas drought, 100 degree weather, wind and water restrictions (1 time per week)are making it difficult to keep the lawn green. I applied in hot spots that were yellow and actually dead. Grass is now growing back in the treated areas. The Texas hill country has little top soil, so top soil is hauled in prior to the lawn being planted. Hot spots are area with low amounts of top soil and low root penetration. August 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AquaSmart Lawn Saver I put this on my lawn after cutting it rather short and watered the product in according to the instructions on the bag. I lowered the watering intervals somewhat during the first week with high temps and no rain, and the second week I did not water at all with no rain. I am now able to reduce my watering in half or more. I saw very green grass at the end of the second week and also good growth. I now water much less, and the grass is the best looking in my neighborhood. Very pleased with his product and would use it more if it were carried in the store. It definitely promotes water conservation and reduces my high priced water bills in the hot summer. January 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 30 lb lawn saver Used the product on a small area. Was easy to apply. Covered the entire area. Grass appeared in 7 - 10 days even with rainy days the entire time and no sunshine. November 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Water Saver Working During the California drought most lawns are mostly brown or turning brown, but our lawn, with minimal watering, is fairing better than most and still is growing and alive. We have a small patch of lawn in the front yard that is watered twice for 5 minutes every fourth day by our sprinkler system; we also pour a bucket of water on the lawn daily from water we collect from faucets in the house; maybe 3 to 4 gallons (This helps minimally). Had to use a hand rotary spreader to apply this product; was a bit difficult with the product so fine, but well worth the effort...so far. Just not sure how often the product will need to be applied. It has been on our lawn about six weeks. May need one more application, if the lawn starts to brown, and then, hopefully, more rain! August 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase I applied 60 pounds of Aqua Smart to my 1400 square foot lawn which is ficus. After two weeks my lawn has already started to look greener. I have been watering it only twice a week because of the sever drought we are experiencing here in California. Watering my lawn twice a week during the Summer here has not been enough. My lawn was slowly turning more and more brown. Now it is greening back up and I credit Aqua Smart with my lawn becoming greener. September 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Increase water available to plants After purchasing this item, I put 1 T of aqua smart in 3/4 cup of water and it absorbed it all. I only purchased enough for my beds which are extensive. I won't know the bottom line until the end of the summer, but from my initial observation, the product is promising. However, I spread this like one would fertilizer then raked it in the mulch, so as not to leave directly on the ground. If one were to want to put this on a lawn, there are special instructions like scalping the grass, then aerating. I poured the experimental solution on the ground, and it just laid there like a patty. I called the manufacturer and they were very helpful. June 24, 2014
