MY ROUGH OPENING IS 38 1/2 BY 82 1/2. DO I NEED TO MAKE IT SMALLER IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE DOORS. I HAVE NOT OPENED THE BOX AND NOTICED IN THE DIRECTIONS THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE A WOOD BLOCK FOR THE TOP TO BUMP IT DOWN AND A SADDLE FOR THE BOTTOM. IS THAT ENOUGH????

Answer:
The height should be fine at 79 1/2 but the width is going to leave way too much room unless you build out the sides. That aside the 72" door would give you a one piece track over two pieces if you ordered 2 - 36" doors.
For info on having door made to correct size please call us at Custom Door and Mirror (631) 414-7725.

Answer:
We do not recommend using these doors as room dividers because the hardware is exposed on the back.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 64 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product and well worth the price. The Impact Plus 36”x80” beveled edge solid core closet bi-fold door is of superior quality. This is a beautiful, solid, bi-fold closet door that will make your room look great. We have it in our bedroom closet to use as a dressing mirror. The door is strong and as a result heavy but it operates very smoothly. Installing is a snap except for the weight. I did it alone but a helper would be advisable. I own 3 other custom bi-fold doors from the same company and I am very happy with them. These doors are designed for a finished opening with a floor saddle but if you want a standard size and not custom bi-fold door a couple things to keep in mind. The finished width is standard to all bi-fold, 36” doors but the height is not. They include a saddle for the floor, which I do not like. I like the clean look of my floors sweeping into the closet. To accomplish this I had to add a flat, 2x4 header, which added 1.5 inches to my finished opening. That made it a clean tight fit. I was in a hurry to get my new room finished and painted so I made my closet door finished opening of 81”x36” and that is why I had to add the 1.5” header. I wish I didn’t but when you are in a hurry sometimes you pay the price. The floor needs to move because it is a floating cork floor so they included a bottom jamb hinge, instead of a floor mount hinge. (You need to call the manufacture for this). This hinge transferred some of the weight to the wall and not all on the floor to allow the floor to move in theory. Custom measurements add about $100 to the price but worth it if need be. The floor saddle is standard on all but you must tell them when ordering if you do not want it on custom orders. The only problem I had with one of my older doors from this manufacture is the top plastic slide guide went bad. I called them and they sent me a new one for free right away. From now on when my wife and I open the door we don’t just jerk the door open with an indiscriminate pull. Just pull the door open in the same plane that it opens- right or left. Do not jerk it towards your which transfers all the force to the top plastic roller guide and eventually wears it out. We love these doors, the beveled edge adds a classy look. Note in the photo there are two types of closet doors. The 36” pine door cost about $60 less and do not operate nearly as smoothly but we didn’t want mirrors facing our bed. August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A good fit in any bedroom or bath I ordered this door unseen as a replacement for one that was damaged. This product shipped from the Chicago area to Alabama by commercial carrier and arrived in great shape due to the excellent packaging materials. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the door materials and manufacturing craftsmanship. The door is well made and attractive with a good mirror. Installation was easier than I anticipated but the instruction sheet could be better written. The installation hardware is far sturdier than that on the door that I was replacing. A word of caution, this door weighs 150 lbs. and the 2 door panels come fully assembled, so it really helps to have someone with some muscle assist in the installation. October 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Quality The mirror is high quality and provides a true reflection, plus the beveled edges keep it looking modern and high end. It's heavy in a good way. The door is extremely sturdy. It's performed flawlessly in the two months I've had it. Can't say enough good things about it! August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value Get someone to help you These things are a beast I had been tracking mirrored bifold doors for awhile as replacements for some 30 year old damaged doors. These doors fit my price point and from the description were a good solution. I chose to pick them up at the store, not really thinking about how heavy 85 pounds (apiece) is to manage. With the seats folded down they did fit into my Ford Escape, but it was a long 4 mile ride and I was really glad when I backed into the driveway. After thoroughly reading the instructions a couple of times, I proceeded to install them. Apart from their weight, the installation went smoothly and probably took a couple hours. Since I probably don't have a straight wall or opening in the entire house, mid-project adjustments are par-for-the-course. At first I was concerned that, because of their heft, they wouldn't be stable, but these doors work so much smoother than their predecessors and once they've been ratcheted into place, the house will probably fall down before they do. My only cautions are: 1. It's definitely not a one man project; get someone to help you. 2. Don't do it on the hottest day of the year. August 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mirrored Closet Door We had to replace one panel of our mirrored closet doors due to it being cracked. My husband was able to use the existing sliding bars at the bottom of top, and just used the hardware off of the old door and put it on the new. The only thing I saw that I was not happy with was that one of the panels themselves had a small imperfection in the glass itself, but we didn't think it was worth driving an hour to and from the nearest Home Depot to have it replaced. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great door but breaks easier than expected These mirror doors are attractive and functional. My only issue is that the video shows them throwing a baseball and hammering the doors and my painters broke one by hitting it with a paint can. Overall it was cheap and easy to replace so not the end of the world but I would have expected it to hold up a bit better. It is heavy so you will probably need a contractor or couple guys to pick it up and install it. June 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Product Ever!!!!!! It took us the whole day to install. The door makes an awful noise everytime I open the door. We have tried everything to ease the noise to no avail. I would have kept my old door. Even though old, it make less noise. May 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 3 foot mirrored bi-fold door (solid core) Excellent door. Very good looking. EXTREMELY HEAVY, everything I could do to get it up the stairs The pivot bracket is inadequate for this heavy of a door so you will not be able to extend the pivot bolt very much. Door looks great May 3, 2016
