I bought 30 of these. None were glued as far as I could tell. All were nailed.

The wooden piece is glued to the block. It is not inset in to the block as it seems pictured, it only rests on top. The wood pieces are 5 3/4" square, and 1 3/4" deep.

We have use it for new deck in backyard but don't know if we need to pour additional concrete around piers?

Answer: 
No additional concrete is needed. The blocks just need to be set level, on undisturbed or heavily compacted soil.

Are the wood blocks replaceable when the old wood goes bad and the concrete is still in good condition?

I have some concrete pier blocks with the wood block have deteriorated over the years and am rebuilding the structure. Can I replace the wood block? It seems to be made from a piece of 2" X 6".

No problem, if you can safely raise ( one inch is fine ) and temporarily support the load sitting on the pad. The key word here is "SAFELY". If you have successfully raised and safely supported the load, you can go ahead and remove the wood block and chip off the adhesive that held it in place. Now just replace the block with one the same size as the original. If it's likely to get wet, use redwood or Read More

If you have successfully raised and safely supported the load, you can go ahead and remove the wood block and chip off the adhesive that held it in place. Now just replace the block with one the same size as the original. If it's likely to get wet, use redwood or treated lumber. As an alternative, you can use just about any type of lumber, just put a couple of coats of wood sealer or exterior primer on it first. Read Less
