Customer Questions & Answers

Is the wooden top piece embedded in the concrete block or just on top. How is the wood connected to the block? What are the measurements of the wood?

Asked by: Rodney
I bought 30 of these. None were glued as far as I could tell. All were nailed.

how many deck block i need for 23X12 deck

Asked by: Rob
If you put them every 8 feet then you would need 12 minimal. Each 12 foot span you would need 3. At 8 feet spans that is 4 for 24 feet so 4 times 3 is 12. You can add more if you like but 12 would be adequate.

Does this concrete pier block require addtional concrete reinforsment around

when placed on/in ground...? We have use it for new deck in backyard but don't know if we need to pour additional concrete around piers?
Asked by: valwine
No additional concrete is needed. The blocks just need to be set level, on undisturbed or heavily compacted soil.

Are the wood blocks replaceable when the old wood goes bad and the concrete is still in good condition?

I have some concrete pier blocks with the wood block have deteriorated over the years and am rebuilding the structure. Can I replace the wood block? It seems to be made from a piece of 2" X 6".
Asked by: ManongMike
No problem, if you can safely raise ( one inch is fine ) and temporarily support the load sitting on the pad. The key word here is "SAFELY". If you have successfully raised and safely supported the load, you can go ahead and remove the wood block and chip off the adhesive that held it in place. Now just replace the block with one the same size as the original. If it's likely to get wet, use redwood or treated lumber. As an alternative, you can use just about any type of lumber, just put a couple of coats of wood sealer or exterior primer on it first.
