Conflicted on where one would place this product

Rain gauge needs to be in the open in order to provide an accurate reading on the rainfall, i.e. not under a tree. The thermometer should be in the shade so as not to provide an elevated reading due to be in direct sunlight. So which is it? I mistakenly purchased a different model AcuRite rain gauge that has an almost funnel-like at the opening of the tube, but the lines for reading were not adjusted to account for the additional rain coming in. Pretty amazing Home Depot puts these products on their shelves.
Asked by: Skinny
Place it in an area that isn't blocked by trees or buildings. You want to gain a good reading of both the rainfall and temperature of an area. Coverage from trees or buildings could affect the temperature readings and definitely affect the readings of your raingauge. If you are in an area that is covered by trees and buildings, then just try to do your best and feel free to move it around. The gauge is easy to move so that you can have faith that you are getting the best information available to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rain Gauge This is an outstanding rain gauge and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I got my first one in 2008 and just replaced it - the numbers/lines have faded over the last 6 years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from i do not recommend i live in austin texas and purchased this in the summer. it's so hot i guess the rubber seal at the bottom of the rain gauge expanded & cracked the plastic gauge. now it's broken & i wasted the money. buy a glass gauge instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality tool for your garden I bought this combo for my wife who is a certified master gardener. She absolutely loves it and we have bought a couple more to put into gardens in other areas so we can keep track of rainfall for her gardens. It comes out of the box ready to go and the rain gauge is fairly accurate. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from sorry i bought it Hard to see numbers unless close to item. Thermometer at least to be magnified so it can be read from inside the house.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not that good In order for the rain gauge to record the accurate amount of rain this product must be placed away from any trees or building that might influence the amount of rain that enters the gauge. By doing so you must place the combo out in the open. This works great for the rain gauge part but when the sun hits the thermometer the temperature reads way higher than the actual temperature outside. Even though I wouldn't purchase this combo again I enjoy seeing how much rain we are getting after so many years of a drought.
