Answer:
It will NOT connect with the new MyAcurite firmware update on the bridges. The device is not supported by Acurite when connecting to their bridges. They don't even sell this on their website anymore because it's so prone with issues.

Suitability for salt water spa pools

Is this floating thermometer suitable for chlorinated salt water spa pools? Our pool normally runs at 40-41 degrees C (105 F) with a salt water chlorinator. Our last unit only lasted 3 months as I later found out through a Google search that the unit was actually unsuitable for salt water pools. I don't want to be caught twice. :) John

Got some plumber's silicon faucet grease, coated the rubber seal liberally, and no more leaking. Now I use the silicon grease on my chlorine feeder and pump strainer basket lid rubber seals as well. Keeps the seals in place, and from drying out, and makes a nice tight but easy to unscrew waterproof connection. Read Less

Answer:
Honestly - it's not suitable for any pool.
In my experience, it leaks horribly around the LCD window and will likely fail within a month or two of having been outside. I've purchased two of them and experienced the same problem with both. There is *no* water seal between the LCD and the clear window. Rain and pool water splash will combine to fill the unit with moisture over time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Nice I have been looking for a thermometer for my Koi pond so I know how to feed. The convenience of having the reading in the house is a real nice. The in pond thermometers were always a pain to read. I have had no leakage of water into the sensor as mentioned earlier. I did put some silicone grease on the gasket as a precaution. I really like the feature of having the 3 day graph so I can have an easy trending comparison. I have other AcuRite products and have been happy with them. I will be getting a weather station and hope this unit will work as a sensor so I can track any trends of the water temperature to the air temperature. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with a Koi pond. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failed again... I thought maybe the kids broke the first one and now that they are not around I decided to try again. Wrong.... It leaked after a few months and the display went out. A simple fix would be to encase the PCB with silicone to prevent water damage. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Pool Thermometer that finally works Easy instructions to set-up. If pool temperature is important to you, its a got to have August 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inaccurate readings This is an exchange item due to a problem with the Hi temperature inaccurate readings of anywhere between 110 and 158F. This replacement does the same. Spend your money on another product. August 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inaccurate The unit is well-built and looks nice, but it does not register the correct temperature. Manufacturer's warranty information is unavailable, and attempts to contact them have failed. The real temperature was confirmed with manual thermometers. Acurite shows 99 when the tub is actually 104. Hoped this unit would be better than those cheap units from China that only last a month or two. This one is warrantied for a year but what good is that when the manufacturer won't respond? Guess I will have the wrong temperature for a year. I notice that Acurite thermometers in general are inaccurate. My wireless Indoor/outdoor thermometer is typically 5 degrees wrong. October 28, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Fix the leaking problem and they have a winner I buy one of these every spring for our pool (last 4 years). The battery compartment inevitably leaks and subsequent water damage destroys the sensor. This year the first one I bought this year leaked straight away; even after trying to seal with silicone it was still dead within two weeks. As long as you know you're probably going to have to replace every year it works well. Never had a problem with range and accuracy seems ok. The good news is that we keep the remote display units every year after we trash the sensor. Now we have multiple sensors around the house and patio that we sync with the new unit every year. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DON'T BUY JUNK !!! Usually I do some research but I seen this at Home Depot and decided that buy thought it was a great idea. When I got home I read the reviews but gave it a try anyway. At first it worked great. Three days later it stopped working I took it out of the pool and water was in battery compartment. I took it back. Will wait until they improve it to try again. July 24, 2016
