It says in the specifications section that this mower is reconditioned. Is that a misprint?

Answer:
I believe it is a misprint, Dan. I saw that and was concerned as well, but my mower appeared to be brand new in all respects, and carried no paperwork that indicated it was reconditioned. I suspect that whoever was typing the description in originally hit the wrong box that resulted in the "Reconditioned" descriptor.

Ariens Service Bulletin No. B-2117 Date: 04/23/14:

Ariens Model 911179 Electric Start:

"The replacement battery in the kit is larger overall and has a different terminal spacing than the original battery. This requires a revised wiring harness and hold down bracket to be installed along with the battery."

Has this issue been addressed on the model I purchase? If not, what do I do about it?

Answer:
The larger size battery has been addressed on all mowers that were built after serial number 021943. If your mower has a serial number lower than this I would contact your local servicing dealer to have the updated kit installed if you are having an issue.

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good Engine, Not So Great Parts.. I've had this mower for about a month and have only used it twice. The mower itself is really great however the rubber front wheel covers have already slipped off several times while in use (one of which torn in half) and the plastic chute cover has already broken where it clips onto the mower body causing it to continue to fall off during use. After speaking with Ariens customer service I found that I may be out more money after already paying over $500 for this mower brand new because that may be considered a "transportation issue" which is the consumer's responsibility. I'm upset that Ariens used such cheap parts for what could have been an all-around great mower. I will be returning the mower for a full refund and will look into another, more durable product. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer beware Don't buy a refurbished lawn mower from Home Depot. I bought one for my daughter and it was nothing but trouble. It worked decent for about 3 mowings and then died. Completely unuseable When she tried to exchange or return it she was told no refund. That was $200 down the drain, never again. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good I've got almost acre of grass (weeds). I really should have a riding mower, but didn't want to spend the $. So far I'm impressed by how cleanly it mulches tall grass/weeds (over 12" tall in some areas) and how powerful and quiet it is. It has most of the features I was looking for: Tall deck height, 1 lever adjustment, and rear drive. I got the electric start model and I'm surprised how strong the battery is. I'm liking the adjustable handle and the ability to flip it forward and get it out of my way in the garage too. I'm glad I got it. Setup consisted of pulling it out of the box, lifting the handle and adding gas. April 29, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Used twice and the starter goes bad. Ariens customer support bad. My wife purchased an Ariens mower Model 911179 elec. start push mower from Home Depot for me this past Christmas. Because I have 3 bad discs in my back I needed a push mower with electric start. Of course I did not get to use the mower until mid to late April. It did fine the first couple of times I used it, but then the starter stopped working properly. I was able to start it with the recoil but the starter was totally dead. Rather than complain to Home Depot {since they do not repair items}, I contacted Ariens Customer Support and they told me to take it to one of their recommended repair shops and not to contact Home Depot. There was only two shops in town. The first would not even return my calls and the second said it would be at least four weeks before they could get to it due to the backlog of repairs they had. {How many people do you know that can do without their mower for four weeks in the height of mowing season}? I called Ariens customer support back and they started saying that they had no control over the repair shops since they were independently owned, yet this was the shop they said to take it to. The customer support person had the most lackadaisical attitude about helping. They said they could give me no further help and they did not seem to want to be bothered. Eight weeks have passed and I still do not have my mower back. The repair shop does have the mower fixed finally. It required a starter, a cutoff switch and a new charger. {This for a brand new mower that had only been used a total of three times. You have to question their quality control.} The repair shop is now simply waiting to receive confirmation that Ariens will honor the repairs under their warranty. {Not sure how long that will be. It has already been over a week} I again contacted Customer Support last week to try and expedite that procedure and was told by their customer support that there was "nothing he could do". Everything had to go through their proper channels. {Some customer support huh?} Meanwhile, I have been borrowing my neighbors mower with a recoil start. That doesn't help my 68 year old back. To say I am dissatisfied with this purchase would be an extreme understatement. And Ariens customer support is severely lacking. July 30, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer Beware!!! Unit will not start by the electric starter. Home Depot will not refund or exchange after only one month of use. December 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well thought out and engineered mower. I again enjoy mowing the yard! The Ariens Razor is a well designed and built machine that offers excellent features; I especially like the hand operated speed control for the self propelled function...it works just like a hand operated accelerator. Raising and lowering the deck is a breeze with one lever near the right rear wheel. The unit shipped with oil in it, so it only needed a minor bit of assembly and a tank full of gas before turning the key and firing up instantly. August 28, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Questionable Purchase This is one of the best built self propelled mowers I have purchased. I am 65 years old and have been through quite a few good mowers. At first glance this is the best engineered mower I've ever owned. Oh boy. My first attempt at starting the mower put a grin on my face from ear to ear. One turn of the key and take off. My heart began to thump with joy. The controls were awesome. Over hill and dales efficiency mowing the green blades of grass with the efficiency of a fine pair of hair trimmers. It filled the grass catcher with no grassey residue on my lawn making the first serveral passes look like a flat top; even a manicured look! I released the controls to empy the bag and of course the mower disengages and the engine comes to a halt. After emptying the bag it re attached with ease. Then eagerly went I to the controls to re start this magnificent machine. I turn the key expecting the same awesome results. One crank two cranks three cranks four then the smile on my face fell to the floor.! Christmas was over so I sat by my dog Grover asking how am I going to cut my clover? A reattempt at starting it caused me to glower...can't cut my lawn without any power. Why I asked myself was this marvelously engineered mower unable to start...the most desirable feature of any motorized machine...ease of starting..I give it a zero. I will now phone customer support in hopes of a friendly simple solution that I can rate as excellent. Stay tuned it just may be I can give this mower a higher rating and recommend it to my mother. But for now buy at your own risk. November 4, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by love it If it is possible to love manual labor, this tool makes mowing, that much easier. I let my young nephew cut the grass (with supervision of course). Its easy to do with this tool. August 16, 2014
