Is this paint sandable? What is the protocol? Thanks!

Asked by: Mc
Hi Mc! Great question. Although it's not necessary to sand between coats, it would be okay to do so if you are experienced with the technique. Nevertheless, the Alkyd paint is known for it's exceptional flow and leveling, so I think you'll be happy with the finish. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Does this paint work with a HVLP sprayer?

Asked by: Gadget
I spray this paint all the time for cabinets and trim. It is the best paint that I have found. I thin it about 10% and put on 3 coats over top of 2 coats of BIN shellac primer.

Is this 100% Acrylic? And how thin is it? Want to use a sprayer meant for thin acrylics or stains...

Asked by: Amandita5
Hello Amandita5, Thanks for your question. It's not a 100% acrylic product but an alkyd which is a special synthetic oil base that has both properties of oil-based paint (harder drying for better durability) and water-based (ease of use and cleaning). As far as thickness, this product has a viscosity of 85-95 KU. We've found that it's the right consistency to be applied with an airless sprayer as long as the tip size is 0.013-0.017" and there's a 60 mesh filter. Thinning is not recommended, even for spraying. Hope this helps! -Joshua

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alkyd is Amazing! As a professional painting contractor, I have used many paints over the years, from just about all the suppliers. I started using the Alkyd for interior trim and doors about a year ago and fell in love with it! What a great finish at an affordable price. Wish it was here 10 years ago! thanks Behr! Rated 5 out of 5 by from experience with 3900 Tried many different brands of latex enamel trim paint, all same--brush marks and surface that easily came up. Tried Behr Alkyd enamel--Oh Boy!---goes down easy, has just enough sag where majority of brush marks disappear as the paint dries and dried surface is hard and durable. Takes a little bit longer to dry than latex, but results are worth the wait. Clean up is the same (with water). I'm using white 3900, which is more of a light cream-Would like to know if Behr makes same in more of a traditional bright white. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Goes on smooth, dries reasonably fast., more durable and almost no scent. My favorite aspect of it, cleans 10x easier than latex off painting tools. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best ever for wood trim The woodwork in my house was stained. I wanted to paint but was having difficulty getting acheiving that smooth glossy look of oil paint until this product was recommended to me. Its amazing! It self levels and dries very hard giving my woodwork the look of oil. Best paint ever! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trim Paint!!! This is the best trim paint I've ever used! A little thicker than traditional latex paint, so it doesn't drip at all, I used an angled brush to apply to trim/baseboards/door jams, although you see the brush marks while painting it does seem to level out as it dries and they disappear. I did have to do 2 coats, but it was well worth it. The finished look is perfect and feels very durable, definitely washable/scrubbable. I plan on doing my kitchen cabinets with it next! Love this paint! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
