How many sq ft will 1 gal of Behr Premium Wood Stain (semi transparent) cover?

Deck was previously stained but has been stripped.
Asked by: Anonymous
I used 1.3 cans for the two coats of about 400 square feet. DON'T BUY THIS STAIN - it looks like solid not a semi and stays tacky for weeks.

can this behr product be used on a deck that has another waterproofer stain on it?

Asked by: 1234
I would suggest removing the old waterproofing stain first using either a stain stripper or an orbital sander and a medium grit sandpaper. If you don't, your new stain may not adhere correctly and could begin peeling ahead of the advertised warranty.

Appled in summer, how long before stained deck can handle foot traffic?

Asked by: jd105
Once it is "dry." For my family it took the product 3 weeks to "cure" and not be sticky to the touch.

1-gal. #ST-102 Slate Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing Wood Stain is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 398.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great for me I was worried because I bought this product before reading reviews, so all the negative reviews made me 2nd guess my purchase. I had a cedar fence built 3 months prior to staining, the wood was pretty dried out, even beginning to split, so I had to weatherproof as soon as possible. I did not do any prep that others may have done. The stain dried so fast that a 2nd coat was put on less than 30 -45 minutes later. I picked the Barn Red color and I love the way my fence looks. It rained within 12 hours after staining, I was afraid it would ruin my stain, but it did not. My fence is not sticky, it dried right away.. We used a professional grade sprayer to apply the stain. I'm hoping for a long lasting stain, so we will see, but right now I'm loving it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid at all costs So far I've applied this twice this spring. The first time I sprayed it on and it never cured (even after weeks it was sticky). I was told I must have over applied and should strip it and start over . After striping, cleaning and prepping again I applied two thin coats with a brush to the specifications on the can. Again I'm left with a very sticky deck. Now I've spent over $200 just to make my deck unusable. I can't describe how disappointing and discouraging this has been. I'm an avid DIYer and this is easily the worst product I've ever used. I wish I would have read more reviews before purchasing. DO NOT BUY THIS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go to for exterior staining/sealing As a contractor, decks and porches keep me busy in the summer and this stain is my go to product. I have used it on decks, porches and playgrounds. It is the best I've found when it comes to coverage, durability and consumer friendly uses and clean up. I've brushed and sprayed applied this stain and every time I have had beautiful results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Glow On Wood Fencing Haven't gone wrong with BEHR coatings yet. The All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer really lets the wood grain pop out. Covers well, provides a solid film that looks like it will last. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I've applied 3 thin coats of this product to some tongue & groove pine beadboard planks that are going up on the ceiling (i.e. no foot traffic). If you so much as look at this stain the wrong way it will come off. As other reviewers have mentioned, the stain is more a (non-bonding) paint than a penetrating stain. You will be able to rub it off with your fingers or a napkin - I cannot imagine what would happen if this was used in a floor/deck application - it would not last an hour. For my circumstance it will do as I don't intend to walk on the ceiling - I just hope that it does what it's supposed to in terms of weatherproofing - but time will tell.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Peels I applied this to two pressure treated pine decks, one 10 years old, the other 1 year old. Both were pressure washed before staining to ensure they were clean. Both had ample time to dry. I applied the stain as directed, in dry cool weather. It remained sticky the entire first summer and attracted ALL of the dirt to stick to it. Now it's already peeling off in places. I am so disappointed. We are moving this summer and this experience has lead me to decide any new decks built at the new house will be made from composite so I don't have to waste money on a stain that looks so awful.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks like paint and peels like it too I like consumer reports but they were way off with this one. It is now 4/2016 and I'm getting ready to again go through the very laborsome project of sanding, stripping, nuetralizing, and staining my deck. It is pressure treated and now nine years old. In 6/2016 I removed a peeling solid stain from another manufacturer. Lots of work to take to bare wood, but I was very excited to switch to a semi transparent. Well, this may say semi transparent but that is not what you get. It is solid like paint, and last year, less than two years old, it started peeling. Behr is sending me new stain as part of the warranty. That is good, but I would happily have paid 3 times the price for a true semi trans parents where I can see wood grain. That said, I'd pay even more not to have it peel. This is just a really terrible product. Do yourself a favor and use a semi transparent OIL BASED stain.
