Customer Questions & Answers

what Paint finish should I use for my bathroom ceiling? Flat, Eggshell, Semi-Gloss, Hi-Gloss?

Asked by: Anonymous
One really needs to ask someone with more experience. Having said that, my personal preference is flat, for it best diffuses the light from the illumination fixtures without harsh reflections. I think, however, a glossier finish is perhaps more resistive to mold if said ceiling is exposed to moderate to high levels of humidity. (We have flat on all our bathroom ceilings, and have had no issues. We also keep the door open while showering, to prevent excessive humidity buildup while showering). (My preference for ceiling paints: the whiter the better. Not all white ceiling paints are the same brightness: A good analogy is copy/printer paper and it's brightness number). Make a good choice. God Bless. td

how much does a gallon cover!

approximately square feet does a gallon of paint cover.
Asked by: Beto
Hi Beto, Thanks for writing in! One gallon of Premium Plus Ultra Ceiling paint will cover approximately 325 square feet. Specifically though, it will cover anywhere from 250 to 400 square feet- depending on the porosity of the surface. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project!

Asked by: POOHBEAR
Dear POOHBEAR, Thanks for posting your question. BEHR PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA Ceiling Paint can be used a primer for properly prepared and clean ceiling surfaces without a separate primer. The first coat will seal the surface and the subsequent coats will deliver excellent color and hide. Multiple coats may be required for complete hide. Please refer to back label instructions for more information. Good luck with your project.

Hi Todd, Thanks for writing in with your question. Yes, you can apply our ceiling paint on a smooth ceiling. Make sure the surface is clean and dry and that any glossy surfaces are scuff sanded. Good luck with your project! Regards, Giovanna

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor coverage As a paint professional time is money for me. I chose this product for a job that required me to paint ceilings. Based on it being labled ceiling paint. Thinking the product was a dead flat and was formulated to cover well. The price point was good. This product would just not cover. I ended up having to put multiple coats, and not so much the extra cost in paint but the labor to put it on is what cost me money and time. Not happy with this paint for ceilings. not for price or quality but for performance. Over all satisfied with other Behr paint products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst paint ever We painted a perfectly smooth ceiling with Behr Premium Plus ceiling paint, primed with Behr drywall primer and sealer. The result was terrible, splotchy and patchy. At first we thought that it needed a second - and then a third - coat, but if anything this made it worse, and resulted in a thicker, coarser texture on the ceiling. We are very meticulous and careful when painting. After doing some google searching, we began to suspect that there was an issue with the quality of the paint. Do yourself a favour and do some research before deciding to buy this product. We have put in a lot of extra, wasted time and work because we used this ceiling paint, and had to put on a fourth coat, using a higher quality paint than Behr, on a sub-par, rough (from several layers of the Behr paint) ceiling surface.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not worth your time or money i remodel homes for a living. the last 2 homes i have done i used behr ceiling paint on the ceilings. the paint is impossible to use. it dries too quickly and is very hard to not have roller lap marks show. it has translucent does not cover even after multiple coats. no uniformity....the ceilings generally look blotchy and half painted and there is no ability to "touch up". you have to try and do the entire ceiling again. i have been painting for over 30 years and i use good quality tools. i would not recommend this paint to anyone who values their time and cares about doing a good job. i would not use this product again even if it was given to me for free. it's just that bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor coverage I am very sad that I have to give this product such a low rating as I love the rest of the Behr Interior product line. Typical home owner, refreshing a 1950s home. The bedroom ceiling was texture/popcorn. This was scraped off. Holes patched and primed. Using a Purdy White Dove 3/8" nap roller, I had to apply 3 coats over a 2 week period to get a uniform finish. Even after the second coat it looked blotchy. (Hint for beginners; most ceiling paints look blotchy while drying. Wait until the next day and inspect in both sunlight and artificial light.) Each coat took almost a gallon of paint for an 11x12 bedroom ceiling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Coverage We moved into a house that needed complete interior repainting. The contractor beige over multiple dark colors was our initial challenge, but Behr covered them all. Then came the beadboard ceiling in the family room. The fireplace had added a coating of greasy black grime across most of the ceiling. We scrubbed, but made little progress other than smudging it to a lighter gray. Two coats of Premium Plus Ultra Stain-Blocking Ceiling Paint covered it completely! We LOVE Behr. Feels like a new home! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job Painted over an already painted ceiling; I ended up using 1.25 gallons to apply two coats on the ceiling in a 150 square foot room. The coverage on the Behr website says 250-400 square feet per gallon in one section, and then 500-800 square feet per gallon on another part of the same page. Paint went on easy and didn't seem to drip. Paint did the job of coverage with one coat except where there was a drywall patch. In hindsight, I should have applied primer to that patch prior to applying the ceiling paint. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sadly a bad experience with Behr I've proudly painted and bragged about my love for Behr paints in two homes I have owned. However today, I am very upset. I have used this Ceiling paint with great disappointment. After primer and 3 coats, I still have streaks and shadows. While the color is lacks the Behr luster. After investing in another 5 gallons because I though another coat would do it...this is bad. I am thinking I will have to change brands to get a ceiling that I can be proud of. If I change for ceilings...I might as well see if the other brand does walls better too. Sorry failed with this product.
