Hi Nellie,
Thanks for taking the time to write in with your question. At this time Behr does not make a coating that can be recommended for animal kennels. Sorry for the inconvenience, and best of luck on your project!

Answer:
Hi Grandpa,
Thanks for checking in! While "Burnished Metal" is actually the name of the paint color, this paint can be applied directly to metal! It has primer built in, so the first coat would act as the primer and any additional coats would be to build color and finish. We would just recommend cleaning the surface thoroughly first.
Best of luck with your project!

Dear sugee,
Thanks for posting your question. It's hard to give you a definite answer to your question because there are a lot of unknowns - specific substrate, condition of the substrate, and number of coats needed.
Basic calculation for determining number of square feet is the multiplication of length by width. One gallon of BEHR PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® Exterior Paint & Primer will cover 250-400 sq. ft. The reason there is a range is that the spread rate will vary, as mentioned above, depending on substrate, substrate condition, and number of coats needed. Paint will go further on smooth, sealed surfaces and, as you would expect, you will need more paint for rough, porous or textured surfaces. Your application tools and technique will also have some effect on the spread rate as well.
If you are only painting trim and doors, make sure the areas to be painted are in good condition. Any peeling or flaking? Any bare, unsealed, uncoated wood? Once you know all the surfaces are properly prepared by removing rust, loose or peeling paint, are smooth and clean, glossy surfaces scuff sanded and dry, you should be good to go. Hope these tips help and we wish you luck with your project. Read Less

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bogus reviews This paint runs like crazy and does not cover well, very disappointed!!! Do not understand review from Consumer Report October 20, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Awful This exterior white primer/paint is the worst paint I've ever experienced. I've needed 3 coats to just refresh white house trim. September 16, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Confusing drying time between coats Bought a quart of this paint from the actual Home Depot store because I wasn't sure which paint to get for my front door. We were going from a dark green to a bright red so I knew more than one coat, no matter what type of paint we used, would be necessary. Explained to the paint guy what I was painting and he recommended this paint. Got home, painted first coat. Did not cover well, but I expected that. Went to clean up and check on drying time and the can says recoat in 12-14 HOURS !! It's my front door! So, it's going to take 3 or 4 days to paint the door since we will certainly need to close it at night. Wish the guy had told me that. Checked the internet site and it says drying time 4 hours between coats, wonder which is correct? Guess I should go with the can. Sure hope this looks great when I'm done because this is turning out to be a PROJECT! Wish I had just bought the paint off the internet that was recently advertised as for doors, dries quick, can do the door in a day . . . or the guy could have told me it took 12-14 hours to dry between coats and I could have somehow figured out a better schedule for painting. UGH! June 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase I am very pleased with this product and the way it goes on. It covers very well and I expect that it will hold up as well as other Behr products I have used in the past. I highly recommend it to others as a better product than that sold by Home Depot's competitors. It provides top quality as well as a competitive price. August 13, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by horrible I guess I should be blaming Consumer Reports since they are the ones who rated this as the primo defacto best of all! Horrible coverage, streaks galore. Absolutely the most overpriced ($41+) paint I have ever used. Putting White Latex over White Latex and this stuff looks horrible! Changes brushes, reshook, repainted and still the horrors continued. I would NEVER expect a $41 paint to streak like this, let alone one that supposedly has primer in it. Speaking of which, it reminds me of a semi gloss primer. I fully did not expect these results let alone the thought of having to use this to put two coats on to cover up the streaks it creates. Skip Behr paints. Go with tried and true Glidden. Do not buy into the hype and DO NOT buy this overpriced primer. This is going back to Home Depot. June 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Paint The Price could be Lower, However the $10..00. Rebate Mail in made it Perfect. June 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't conceal well! I painted much darker green porch pillars with a much lighter, bleached linen, paint only to find it would take four coats, ultimately, to conceal the old paint! I had no problems when I used darker-tinted paints! May 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loved this paint -- it is pricey but it did a GREAT job! When we moved in our walls were covered in FLAT blue painted walls,,,blue was not a color that looked right - and flat paint showed each and EVERY mark - we purchased this paint on the reviews from Consumer Reports - It costs a lot more than other paints, but if you don't want to go back and paint again in a few years, we really liked this option. Despite what they tell you at the paint counter, you will PROBABLY need two coats, especially if covering a darker wall color. This paint stacks right up with other independent paint store paints - I just wish that the price was a bit more along the lines of the average Home Depot Shopper,,,,we go to HD to NOT have to pay the prices of those 'independent paint stores'! That being said, we are very happy with the coverage and the richness and depth of the colors - they look like they were professionally painted! September 1, 2013
