I am really pleased with this product! It was easy to install and provides a great service if the power goes out it immediately clicks on and saves any flooding issues, The main thing was how easy installation was since were not particularly 'handy' folks - we did not have to hire a plumber or handyman to install. We did have to secure with zip-ties so I would recommend you have a couple 6"-12" zip-ties handy just in case... I would highly recommend this product!

I purchased this pump kit in the event of power failure or if my main pump couldn't keep up. Installation is fairly easy if you have any sort of basic plumbing skills. Unfortunately after only a year or so the system alarm began tripping in the middle of the night for no reason. The last straw was when it went off when I was out of town and I needed to guide my wife at 2am over the phone on how to open the box and disconnect the battery and unplug the system. For the price, I expect better quality and service life. Replacement batteries are over half the unit cost. I am replacing this unit with a water powered back up sump.

Even if your electric is on while this pump is pumping continuously, it is not charging the battery. Example is pump is running cause main pump failed and this pump is running nonstop it will quit pumping soon as battery is drained. The charger does not put out enough amperage to run the pump.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MJ2mrx Just my experience...
This unit runs by battery. So if the battery doesn't work please know the unit will not work. With that in mind here's my experience: Bought this because of power outaged spent money to get battery and acid and PVC pipe etc etc. Hooked it up it worked like a charm. Then because of lack of power to charge battery it suddenly stopped working leaving me right back where I started.
Now yes its a BACK UP. So if you dont need an immediate fix, but are looking to use it down the line I would say it's good. But watch out if your power is out for an extended period. In that case another method would be well worth your time and money.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MequonMatt Use a miter saw!
Bought this system over the weekend. I will say install was pretty easy, there are many helpful videos on youtube. Putting the acid in the battery was a little freaky. I would wear thick gloves, long sleeves and goggles.
I found the fittings that the instructions recommend much easier to line up and seal using a miter saw to cut the PVC. I tried one cut with a hacksaw and it was so uneven I was concerned it would not seal. My miter saw also made the project go faster which was important because my sump fills about three times an hour!
I almost hope to power goes out so I can test the system realistically.

Bought this as a backup in 2011 when I finished my basement. I had it professionally installed and tested with no problems. The alarms on it are annoying when power goes out but if it keeps the basement dry, who cares. I always test the backup every month to make sure it still works and check water level in battery every month or so. This thing will dry out a battery in no time if you don't watch it. You don't need to use the expensive Watchdog battery with this system. I used a deep cycle marine battery and drilled a small hole in the top cap to insert the low water level rod.....it works fine.

I have a Basement Watchdog Special BWSP.
It’s been installed about 18 months.
We had bad rain storms today and my main sump could not keep up with the amount of water in the pit.
This wonderful system failed to start. The first it was ever needed!
The switch worked and the pump light illuminated but the pump itself did not start.
I have checked all the connection, the pump is connected on the back of the control unit.
The pump was fully tested at the time of installation and at that time, activating the float switch started the pump.
As a result my basement flooded.
Thanks for a wonderful system...NOT
