Customer Questions & Answers

Use with what tool?

Forgot a dryer vent hole... now have a 4" thick veneer of split faced block. Can this drill through that? And if so.. what kind of drill can I use? What else would I need? Normal drill?
Asked by: Jackman
Yes, this core bit will do the job but you cannot use a regular drill. need a hammer drill capable of using SDS plus bits. Milwaukee and Bosch both make a good "D" handle rotary drill available at HD. Both run $179 and can be operated as a drill, hammer drill, and as a mini jackhammer. A worthwhile investment. Note: unless you purchase an SDS to normal bit chuck adapter (about $50) you will only be able to run SDS plus bits and chisels. This core bit is designed for jobs like yours. Ordinarily, a hole of that size through masonry would require a breathtakingly expensive SDS Max or heavy-duty SDS Plus tool and setup. If you think that you'll use the tool more that once a year a rotary hammer drill is a useful investment. If you aren't likely to need it again or your wife/girlfriend/significant other won't let you buy cool toys then my suggestion would be to rent a larger tool. Daily rental for the next size SDS Plus ("D" handle rotaries aren't typically for rent) should run about $70/day. I don't know how much core bit rental will run you.

can this be used on cement

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, this will work on cement, cinder block, brick. If the cement is reinforced with rebar be extra careful. Know the tool that you are using and what kind of clutch it has, if any. Be prepared for it to bind up and hold accordingly.

I need to drill a hole about 12 inches deep in concrete filled blocks. Will this bit do the job - I would clean the core out every couple of inches

Asked by: Douglas
The usable cutting depth for the SDS-Plus core bits are 3". Our SDS-Max core bits have a usable length of 7" or 17". For drilling 12" we recommend the HC8555 4" diameter with 17" usable length, 22" overall length. We do not offer a 4-3/8 diameter in the SDS Max size. The next size up would be 5" diameter HC8570.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked well in soft 100 year old brick THe only thing I didn't like was the price. It did an excellent job creating a hole in 16 inches of brick for installing a bathroom ventilation vent.
