how do you figure the sq. feet of your room

Asked by: Anonymous
The square footage of a room is calculated by multiplying the length in feet by the width in feet. You can also calculate it by multiplying the length in inches by the width in inches and dividing by 144.

Plano Marsh 3/4 in. Thick x 3-1/4 in. Wide x Random Length Solid Hardwood Flooring (22 sq. ft. / case) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 136.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from just so so product Bruce hardwood flooring is not high quality in manufacturing and quality control aspect. We had a hard time installing 1000 sqft of this flooring. They were not machined accurately. Many of them are 1/16" smaller or bigger than others, so you would have gap in between, and we had to switch pieces and trash many of them. Also so many pieces have no tongues or poorly machined tongue so they could not lock in each other. Furthermore, there were a lot of pieces with big holes and they were just simply coverd with wood filler and colored and passed. Those are trashed. We should have gotten a better product elsewhere. The manufacturing and quality from Bruce is just so poor.

Our contractors had a terrible time installing these floors. They said they would NEVER use Bruce products again. The boards would not fit together well and our floors are now full of unsightly gaps. The floor was installed in October. Since the weather has cooled and the boards have become more dry, the gaps just keep getting bigger and bigger. We followed instructions and let the boards sit in the house for over two weeks before install. We feel like we wasted several thousand dollars and are going to have to replace the floors. Just awful!

I expect that is why there are many pieces of wood that are unusable. During installation, it is good to have a long metal level to place next to the pieces. Some boards are slightly bowed and can be straightened as nailed, but some are not worth the effort. The finished floor definitely shows a few places where the boards weren't perfect. Overall it looks ok. I was able to piece together 3 cases of wood from 12 to be returned for defects. Many boards come without tongues or barely a tongue. boards also come without the bottom portion of the groove if the cut was on a bark line that falls off. I only stuck with this brand because one room was already completed in it. Like I mentioned, patience and willingness to be picky selecting boards to use will pay off. I did like that the wood is pre-finished. No sanding, staining or varnishing. One room has floors that are 2 years old and look just as good as the new ones.

After covering 1200 sq ft we have had to throw away approximately 3 cases of the flooring. We are very unhappy with the quality of the flooring and will never buy this again or any other hardwood flooring from Home Depot. I own multiple properties and have had hardwood installed in the past. I have never had such poor quality before. There were basically 3 major problems with the flooring. 1. The flooring was not all 3-1/4 in. wide. There were random widths in the packaging. 2. There was holes in the flooring that looked like it had been damaged by pests. 3. There were holes in the flooring where some of the knots were making it unwise to lay the flooring. I would hope that this would garner a response from Home Depot but I won't pin any hopes on that.

There is absolutely no quality control in the junk that Bruce packages in these boxes. At least 1/3 of the boards in every box have worm holes, splits, missing tongues. I have spent so much time inspecting each and every piece of material going into this install that it is taking 3 times the normal install time to give the customer the quality install that he deserves and has paid for. Out of 26 Boxes I have accumulated 7 boxes with pieces so poor in quality that I wouldn't even give them away. How can any company put totally unusable pieces into a box. I will never subject myself to using their substandard product again. To add insult to injury, Bruce does not even offer a nosing for this product.

I followed the advice of other reviewers and ordered 20% overage for waste and poorly milled product and it worked out just fine (180ft2 space and ordered 10 boxes). As noted by others, the finished side is very slightly beveled leaving some gaps. It is unlikely to ever be an issue since I doubt we'll ever attempt to change the color. The finish on this flooring does appear very durable. All things considered, ordering the overage, getting this product as a special buy of the day, and home depot credit promotions, the value was very high. Including labor, I got this done at about 40% of what was quoted to me by a local flooring store.

It is relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for. Several pieces were bowed or had a decent crook one way or the other, or had missing tongues, or chips in the face. In each box, there were at least 3-4 pieces which were not usable, unless cut to fit thus removing any imperfections. I installed it myself with a friend who has been doing flooring for 20 years. He said its not the worst he has ever seen, but he steers people away from Bruce products. He does not like having to install it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Hardwood Flooring I every Bought I bought 400' of Bruce Plano Marsh 3-1/4 Hardwood Flooring. When I opened the first 2 boxes, I was so shocked to see almost every board having worm holes, corners broken, splits in the wood and a good percentage of the tongues missing. I estimated that I could only use 10% of the wood versus 90%. The flooring is going back to Home Depot and I would never recommend buying Bruce Hardwood again! I have 18 boxes of flooring that I will have to lug back to Home Depot. I am so disappointed in this purchase!!!
