Answer:
I WOULD THINK ITS HARD TO USE AS A ROTISSERIE. YOU CAN WRAP THE ITEM IN FOIL, LAY IT DOWN, AND TURN ,TURN. & TURN. I THINK I MIGHT TRY THIS ONE. I WILL BBQ THE WHOLE CHICKEN IN THE STEAMER BOX.

American Gourmet Offset Smoker - Model 10201570-05
I have successfully prepared burgers and smoked several hams,
But when i try chicken I have trouble getting internal temp above 140C.
desired int. temp 190C
I used premium oak lump charcoal and briquettes, maintaining smoke chamber
temp about 300 to 340C. Any ideas? Would using wood chunks help?
The recipe instructions stated one hour and one chimney of charcoal would be
enough.I used 2 chimney loads and 2.5 hours.

Answer:
Whenever cooking chicken you want to make sure to get the internal temperature to at least 165 degree Fahrenheit. The best thing to do once your offset smoker is cooking is to just let it do its job. Opening the lid to check it continually will prolong the cook. Wood chunks and chips can help to add flavor, but will not drastically affect the heat. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great item box was damaged but... ...box was damaged but it didn't affect the item it's perfect for grilling. My husband went nuts. He Scratched It By Accident Putting It Together But Other Than That Its Great. Thanks December 31, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great little BBQ I bought this to replace a 20 yr. old similar off-set smoker/BBQ. This one has 2 grills over the smoker box charcoal grates as opposed to 1 I had before and 3 in the cooking area as opposed to 2... my only problem is that the cooking area above the smoker box grates on the 400 series is much smaller than I was used to. I now wish that I had purchased the 700 series, for I do a lot of cooking over the charcoal in the smoker box and now have moved to the larger area for cooking just for the room. The BBQ itself is good, the instructions suggest having 2 people to assemble it, but I did it alone and it was not hard and actually quite enjoyable. The only bad thing that I can find to say about it is that after you are done grilling/cooking and close all vents, it is not completely air-tight and the remaining charcoal burns out instead of going out. If you have a small area and do not cook a lot at a time, then i would recommend this product all day long, but if you are going to want to cook a lot at once, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the 700 series and you will not be disappointed !! Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by about to put this boi to work.. Time to put this bad boi to work...i like it...all my guest just lovin it April 30, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Would not buy another one. I have had this smoker for about a year. Very hard to get it up to temperature. Does not hold heat well because the lids do not close all the way. The gaps allow heat to escape. It works fine as a grill though, just not as a smoker. Even though I keep it covered year round, the finish has faded and it is starting to rust. June 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FOR ALL SEASONS Really enjoy My Gourmet Offset Smoker and Grill. Not sure if is the gourmet or if this grill has made me one. Everything I cook on it turns out great! I use it throughout the year. Would most heartily recommend. June 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I love my grill, and us it often. If I had a complaint it would be that the bottom of the unit should be square, so as to accommadate a wider surface for the briquets. Bob Baliel June 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome I love it. Wish I had the bigger one. Love the ability to smoke or grill. June 10, 2014
