Customer Questions & Answers

are shelves adjustable?

Asked by: slick
Yes the middle two shelves of both units are adjustable. But what I did is move the bottom stationary shelf on the top unit up two holes during construction to give more usable space

How strong are these hanging rods after they are attached to the cabinets?

Concerned about the size of the screws...And them pulling out and ruining the cabinet. It seems like it would be stronger if they went through and had some support on the inside of the unit.
Asked by: Ed
You could do that--drill through and use nuts and bolts, but I've had no problem and my unit has been in use, the rods stuffed full, for over a year with no problem.

This was a fairly easy project, but there were some things I'd do differently if I were to install this in a 2nd closet. First, the hanging rods don't retract smaller than about 25 or 26 inches. Not knowing this, I only left 24 inches on one side of my shelving unit. That required me to cut the rods and drill a new hole in the bottom of the rod to properly mount it. Not difficult, just an inconvenience when I could have moved the shelving system over a couple of inches to avoid this. Also, the holes the instructions want you to cut in the back of the shelving covers (used to securely attach the shelves to the wall) are WAY TOO LARGE. I suggest you measure the mounting bracket first, then make your cut. If you follow the instructions, you will have a large gap below the mounting bracket that show's the wall through the opening. I also used larger screws to mount the hanging rods to the unit so ensure they don't pull out of the units as it is just particle board. Overall, a nice upgrade to my closed that was relatively easy and I will likely replicate for other closets in the house.

Instructions were relatively easy to follow, and MOST of the product is made to a standard I'd call "good", but the finish on the panels is not very good. Some of the panels had damage on the 2 units I purchased, but they were mostly in areas that wouldn't be seen normally. The rear panels are cardboard with the same veneer, but it's shipped folded in half so you will always see the crease where they folded it unless the shelves are full. It's not a huge deal since the chocolate is a dark color; you can't notice it much. I did buy the optional shelves that sit above the hangers, and they say they can be cut to fit, but the veneer flaked away when I cut them. I even applied painters tape to it over the area that I was cutting to try to reduce the potential for damage.. I would have given 4.5 stars based on the price, but the veneer is low quality and I had to be extremely cautious to try to not damage it, but some damage was unavoidable. For what the product is, I don't think there is anything else on the market that in this price range that is any better; the next step would be solid pine and the price skyrockets. I will recommend these, but suggest to everyone to take your time and use padding or a blanket to protect the veneer while assembling.

I did the installation myself and I would say that it took me around a total of about 15 hours to put it all together. It's very straightforward, but it is time intensive. The construction is extremely solid and everyone who has seen it has remarked that it looks like a custom closet that would have cost 5X as much. I have four rods, and it will fit TONS of clothes and suits on either rack (I just have large hangers.) If you have trim around the bottom of your closet, you will need to remove it in order for this unit to sit flush with the wall. I would highly recommend this product, just know you will need lots of tools to get it done (drills, levels, etc.) If you have to cut the shelves that go over the rods, you can just take them to your local hardward store: they cut all 4 for about $10 and they fit perfectly. It's still a one-person job although the boxes it comes in a extremely heavy. I broke them down one-by-one in my garage and carried the pieces up to the assembly area. You won't regret this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for maximizing closet space Downsizing to a cottage at the cape we needed to maximize or closet space. This system looks great - we are so glad we bought this. Our closet was too narrow for the expandable hanging rods but we drove To Home Depot and they cut the rods down for free. My only complaints would be that white shelving unit was too wide after putting my folded clothes on the shelves there was about 2" of excess space on either side - to maximize hanging space, I would rather the storage shelf to be a narrower width of 12". I was going to order the 4 drawers but decided to order one first to be sure I liked it - I am so glad I did this, as the drawer was really small so I will not be ordering any more. If you are trying to maximize your closet space DO NOT ORDER THE DRAWERS!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Below expectations Directions are good but peice are not labeld. Left and right parts are identical. Everything is symetical. OMG what an assembly nightmare. If you can put this together you have enough skill to build a solid wood peice for the same cost. Plus, you need to secure the peice to the wall because the only thing holding it structuraly is a cardboard backing. I will not be buying anymore. Even the trim does jot line ip right. Looks great from across the room, not so good close up.

I was pleased with the item but (and there is always a but) I needed additional hardware to add rods and shelves above the rods, this was an Item Home Depot didn't carry so I call the factory and they said they couldn't help sorry for my luck so I had to return the additional shelves I ordered. I have spent $8K to $10K at Home Depot in the last 2 months and I can't say enough about how pleased I am with Home Depot

Description is wrong, you can't put it into your closet exactly as from the picture if your closet is less than 6 ft. Need to cut rods somewhere!!! Well said you should secure this to the wall. Dear people, you ever knew that floors had trim all around? Should I cut trim to put it to the wall? Overall cheap shaky piece, not happy at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Give it a chance. Read this review To be honest I was very skeptic about giving this a chance, based on all the bad reviews I had read. But I needed a closet so I gave them a chance. What I found out is they must've taken the feedback and done something with it, as we ordered an entire ensemble for a 9 ft.² closet. We ordered almost $1600 worth of parts, cabinets, rails, etc. We built the model for the closet online, then had everything ordered straight from the manufacturer, and have it delivered to Home Depot. I got it home and unpacked every last piece to find that nothing was damaged on delivery. I won't lie, it took me almost 2 days to put my closet together, but it looks fantastic! So if you're in the market for updating your closet I would recommend giving them a chance. If you're going to install it yourself please have some background and putting things together :-) we went with the dark brown and it looks great in our closet
