Customer Questions & Answers

Our doors don't match up in the midfle. There is a one half inch gap in the middle. What can we do?

Asked by: kristin
You need to adjust the hinge. Look for the hinge that has the reverse threaded screw. The bottom of this screw has a little flat post. You need to position that post against the hinge. So when you screw this screw in, it will press against the hinge and move each door closer together. Adjust each equally and you should remove the gap completely. The instructions aren't very clear on this adjustment. Even the picture of these panels shows the post in the incorrect position. I made the same mistake during my installation and fought with the adjustments for an hour before making it work. I thought that little stand off post was meant to pull the hinge together.

Can 1 door be used on a 12 inch unit?

Asked by: Jhorn
While the door itself will fit in the frame, and the hardware will match the holes, you will need to modify he shelves for the door to shut. The doors need the shelves to be recessed to allow for the door to fit flush against the face of the unit. I've ripped these shelves on a table saw and applied the heat activated melonite strips to the cut edge for cosmetics. I'd recommend using masking tape on the area of the cut to minimize the finish damage by the saw blade. Another thing to note. There are at least two versions of these doors out there. One has a silver single knob and the doors appear to be glued together around the face board. The second is a solid single piece with lines Engraved for cosmetics. These units come with a handle that uses two holes. The handle looks like the handles that come on the drawers.

Are these loose doors or do they come mounted to a face frame?

Asked by: dc7
They're loose. They mount to holes 3 and 4 above and below the horizontal boards. The hinges have a decent amount of adjustment range. The shorter in depth shelf board can be installed on the inside of the cabinet doors and won't obstruct the door from hitting.

how close to the floor can the doors be?

In all the photos I have viewed, the doors and drawers are always at least 6 inches above ground level. Obviously you would want to clear the flooring but I wasn't sure how low the first peg hole was.
Asked by: sm128408
You could mount the shelves lower. What you have to pay attention to is the shelves. You can't install a door with a full size board behind the door or it won't close. If you look at the assembly, they come with two sizes of boards. Ones that fit flush with the two outside legs and ones that are 13.75" in depth to permit the door to seat with the cabinet flushly. Naturally you can cut the boards if you have a table saw to permit the doors to seat flush. Home Depot sells a melonite adhesive strip that is heat activated. These will apply the white finish to the cut wood rather easily. I used a heat gun instead of an iron and it worked perfectly. The mounting positions for the hinges use holes 3 and 4 above and below the top/bottom edge.

The doors are very attractive but the only complaint I have is that, once they were attached to the shelving unit, it had a big gap between the doors so they didn't close like it shows in the picture. The gap is almost a half inch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Product Easy to assemble. Some are saying there is a 1/2 inch gap between doors. I found this out as well - HOWEVER - this gap can be closed! You need to read the instruction booklet. I found this tip on the helpful hits page. It shows how to adjust doors up and down, front to back and yes, to close the gap in the center. On the base hinge, there is a small screw - by turning this it pushes the door away from the side walls, thus closing the gap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beautiful but leaves a gap Now don't get me wrong, I love these doors. They look amazing in my closet. They were easy to put together and install. HOWEVER, they leave a (what I would consider) large gap between the doors even though they are for the 25" ClosetMaid unit. Now if you're even a little bit handy and creative (and don't mind a divider in your closet) this is a super easy fix! I just used a piece of screen mould, found in the trim isle at Home Depot, and nailed it in the center to cover the gap and stop the doors. It's a lot of measuring and some sawing but totally worth it. It's only 3/4" wide so it's not in the way at all. So if you don't mind doing some tweaking I'd definitely recommend this product because it really does look so nice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adds a nice touch to closet Very please with these doors. Easy to install. Looking at other reviews, there were complaints of a space between the doors. You can solve this by adjusting screws on inside of cabinet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So glad I bought the doors After reading NUMEROUS posts about the doors having a gap, I almost didn't buy them. I am so glad I did. They were the icing on the cake for my two closets. My son put them together for me, he is a digital strategist, not a contractor. I had warned him about the reviews and asked him to just do one and I would decide from there. PERFECT, they are beautiful, no gap....he said most people just don't know how to adjust the hinges properly. I repeat, perfect and NO gap. I had an estimate of almost 3 times what these cost. They look very professional, quality is good, I put all the drawers together, very easy...I don't think it is a job you can do yourself easily, but two people is all you need. Did take us two full days to do a walkin and a long 137" closet, we are both exhausted......

These units look okay, but they can be difficult to install and get aligned properly. The instructions on the adjustments are rather poor when it comes to adjusting the gap between both doors. Even the picture on this website shows the hinge installed incorrectly. The reverse threaded screw has a stand off post that should be screwing against the mount and pressing the doors inward to eliminate the gap between the doors. Vertical alignment can be difficult depending on how well the screws went in to the cabinet. There is only about a quarter inch of adjustment up and down. If the brackets had been made a little longer, it would provide for more adjustment range. If you are installing several of these units in tandem with drawer sets, you'll find you have extra shelves available. The trouble is if you try to install one of the full width shelves that extends all the way to the face of the cabinet, the doors will not close. Your only option then is to take the shelf to the table saw and cut it down to 13.75" on the front face. I bought laminated strips that are heat activated to adhere to the cut plywood face to fix the cosmetics. This came out rather well and I can't even tell that they were chopped. Another disappointment is ClosetMaid did not make these shelves for their smaller cabinet boxes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Doors have 1/2" gap in middle This is my third set of this brand of closet organizer. This set came with a cracked door and the doors are too small. There is a 1/2" gap down the middle. It was easy to put together except for the glides. These were different that the previous ones and were much harder to install.
