All of the recent D55146 inventory should be 1.6HP and 5.0 CFM @ 90PSI. They are using the original DEWALT stock photo.

Since the release of these models, some Canadian stores requested to carry the products. Since it did not meet the Canadian code, we re-designed and created the D55168-CA and D55146-CA, which yielded performance levels of 1.6HP and 4.8 SCFM.
Recently, the US standard agency has issued a clarification to their standard, which makes the electrical requirements almost identical to the Canadian standard. DEWALT chose to consolidate the US and Canadian units into a common SKU that would meet both the Canadian and the clarified US standard. We were able to improve performance at 1.6HP and get 5.0 SCFM, while staying within the electrical requirements for both Canada and the US."

Answer:
Both the small tank and the large tank probably have the same compressor and motor. I have both and the rating is 5 CFM @ 90 PSI with a 1.6 hp motor.
The lower profile unit does produce at least 5 cfm from using a 5 cfm sander. The taller one is a little short on output. Both are great units. The lower profile model is quicker to recharge for obvious reasons, but cycles much more frequently.

In my experience, the compressor has a really hard time keeping up when it is below 35 degrees ambient temp. I was on a cold jobsite and couldn't get above 100psi

There is nothing in the Instruction Manual that indicates a temperature, so, just make sure you have it drained out before the temps start dropping down below freezing. By that, I mean the tank itself and any water traps you may have.

Place the air compressor in a clean, dry and well ventilated area at least 12" (30.5 cm) away from the wall or other obstructions that will interfere with the flow of air. Keep the compressor away from
areas that have dirt and/or volatile fumes in the atmosphere. These impurities may clog the intake filter and valves, causing inefficient operation.

I found out yesterday that if run upright, the hose that goes to the switch and the regulator manifold (gauges and connectors) will be at the low point of the tank, also the hose coming from the compressor. This means the moisture collected in the tank will constantly drain back into the compressor and and switch and regulator manifold - not a good thing. I have a new manifold on order now. I just bought this exact compressor used. I turned it on and when the gauge got to 210 I shut it off as tan is only rated for 200. Pull off the plastic cover that the on/off switch is a part of. You will see a little green phillips head screw. Turn it counter clockwise 2 turns and reassemble. Turn compressor back on and make sure it shuts off @ 180 to be safe. You may need to repeat the process to get it Read More

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 57 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Solid. No problems after 3 months. Have been running various nailers and staplers. Tank fills quickly. Not the loudest compressor I've used. Seems very sturdy but not too heavy to lift into vehicle on occasion. Since purchasing, have run into couple crews that have been working with this compressor for a while. Recommended. May 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Real workhorse! Easily runs a few framing guns or roofing guns, or many trim guns. Heavy but not that bad to move around. Pretty quiet for a compressor of it's ability. Keep the tank drained after use, as you should with any compressor and it should serve you well. Well priced for what you get. If you buy just one compressor and need it to do everything, this is the one you should look at. April 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome compressor My old Porter Cable pancake compressor was getting old and worn out so I found this new Dewalt compressor and decided it was perfect, more capacity, more pressure and it had wheels to transport it around ( at 83 lbs I'm sure glad) . It is so much quieter than the old pancake, I don't mind it now when it starts up. March 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Can't use in upright position I only gave it one star because when I look at reviews, I always look at the most critical first. I figure other people might do the same. I actually never even turned the thing on to see how it ran. As you can see by the attached pictures, I intended to run it in the upright position due to how my garage is built and where I already had my hose reel. I didn't see the warning label on the display model or I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I think the reasoning is because in the upright position, the tank fill fittings are closest to the bottom and thus would allow moisture accumulation to go back down into the compressor and gauges. Another thing, the display model boasted the flat free solid rubber tires which I was excited about since I have one on my wheelbarrow. When I got mine home and unboxed, it had tube tires on it. I'm returning mine. July 18, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by hope to find a better one i run a small construction company. and try to own 2-4 of every tool we use on a regular basis. so i own a few compressors. i bought this style about 2 years ago and was at first very happy. it had good wheels, was heavy but portable. and could run 2 roofing guns it never shut off but it could run them. it was about 5 months then the thing popped one day and never worked again. had an extended warranty and exchanged it. three days later the wheels flew off new one i slapped them back on but never was quite right. then another month the regulator leaked so i took it back again and grab the third one. all on my extended warranty. about 9 months went by and the thing stopped making air ran like nearly normal loud as could be but never built pressure. i was about to take it back a 4th time and demand money back but it was stole by evil thieves before i got around to it instead. thank you insurance. over all i think it could be a decent product i know a few other companies that own one and use it like all is great. but 70% of what they use is battery power nailers. if you need something for light regular use it can work. heavy use it's a be sure to buy the extended warranty you will need it March 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A+ Good portable compressor. And comes fully assembled just plug it in March 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Had some doubts Turned it on and let it get up to pressure. When it reached 200 PSI the release valve opened and it started back up again. Did that about 4 to 5 times before release valve finally stayed shut and allowed the 200 PSI to stay in tank. I thought I was going to have to take back to store. Did the roof on my house and it worked fine thanks January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I have used this product on several roofing jobs and framing. This compressor is very quiet and recovers quickly even with two nailers being used. December 22, 2015
